Weir Wins In Arizona

It was nice to see Mike Weir overcame some crazy wind conditions in the desert of Arizona to beat Mark Hensby by one stroke on Sunday at the Fry’s Electronics Open. Weir's final-round 68 at Grayhawk’s Raptor Course was good enough for his 8th career victory and the first since his 2004 victory at the Nissan Open in LA. Lots of players struggled in the wind but it really just came down to a battle between Hensby and Weir. Weir and Hensby were never separated by more than one stroke all day. Weir's birdie on #15 opened up a one stroke lead that he didn't let slip away. A nice up and down from the bunker on the 18th hole, where he holed a six-footer sealed the victory for Weir.

Did Mike Weir’s performance at the Presidents Cup four weeks ago, which included a singles victory over Tiger Woods have anything to do with his success this week. For sure his confidence must of been at a real great which I'm sure he'll use to carry himself into 2008. You knew it might be coming as he had a nice T10 last week at the Frys.com Open.

The win moved Weir to 33rd on the money list, but coming in second might of been more important for Hensby. He moved from 151st to 99th in earnings, securing an exemption for next year. Good for him.
