Hylands Golf Course Looking For New Members

I've never had the privilege of playing there but I know from various people I've golfed with Hylands is a fun track to play. They're looking for new members so check out the options and maybe think about joining.

Hylands Golf Club will welcome new members for the 2013 golf season. Our objective, which is to continue with both golf course and facility improvements and avoid increases to membership prices, is dependent upon our ability to attract a full adult membership of 1400 people. Presently, we are short of our ideal complement. We are appealing to all members to help us get the word out that Hylands is looking for new members in all categories.

If you know of people who might be interested in joining us, now would be an excellent time for them to come on board. Our buildings are being renovated and, with the help of two course consultant companies, we are very optimistic that we can improve the quality of the courses.

Costs of joining are very competitive with other courses of comparable playing quality for all member categories. You know about and can promote the club facilities, activities, teaching capabilities and competitions.

For any ex-military person, if they have applied for membership within 3 years of resignation from the Military, the new member entry fee will be waived. If outside that time, this fee has been reduced to a paltry $500. Please note that a pension is no longer required for eligibility to the ex-Military category.

Active RCMP and retired DND Civilians have been moved to the lower cost Ordinary from the Associates category.

Anyone is eligible for membership in the Associates category as long as they have two current members in good standing who will sponsor them.

SeeMore mSeries Review - m1 SS - Platinum Finish

 SeeMore m1 Putter Review
This review is a long time coming as I first got this putter near the end of June and used it from the beginning of July (My Cape Breton Golf Trip) to almost the end of the season (October). Most of the other reviews I'd done with SeeMore putters were done in a one or two month window. This review became more extensive as I wanted to test the SeeMore m1 blade putter out on a variety of golf courses not only ones in the Ottawa area but also ones I golfed at in Cape Breton.

Technical Specifications
M1.
• 100% milled 303 stainless steel, with milled aluminum back cavity insert behind the face for enhanced feel and enlarged sweet spot.
• Standard head weight 335 grams
• Loft 2.5 degrees
• Lie angle 68° - 74° (+/- 2 degrees available).
• Length available from 30” - 37” in 0.5” increments
• Selection of Lamkin/ Golf Pride/ Iomic/ Feel Tec/ Winn grips.

Build your own just to your liking
The great thing I like about SeeMore putters is the fact you can customize your putter. Select the length, lie angle, grip and head cover for your customized putter.

Look
When you first look down at the SeeMore M1 putter you know your putting with something special. Although it's a considered a blade putter it is slightly oversized. Which definitely appealed to me as my gamer is a SeeMore m3.  The milling marks on the face of the m1 are a work of art.  A beautiful diamond pattern which looks amazing.

The Seemore m1 putter comes with a great looking True Temper shaft that's blacked out on the lower section of the putter. This matches the RifleScope markings on the putter perfectly. You can get the m1 putter will a plethora of grips. The Feel Tec Teal Oversize Grip I had installed on the putter is perfect for my larger hands and for me enhances the feel of putts. The platinum satin finish of the putter actually cuts down on glare which initially I was skeptical.

I received a SeeMore Private Reserve headcover with my m1. As usual an amazing headcover as I've found with most SeeMore headcover always great quality. In my opinion the best around.

Feel
My first five rounds with the SeeMore m1 were on a golf trip to Cape Breton on varied greens. I was real curious to see how the putter would perform on courses/greens I'd never putted on before.

The first course I played was The Lakes Course outside of Sydney. The greens at The Lakes Golf Club where in great conditions the day I played the course. There are some that have a few more undulations/contours to deal with but on the whole not to difficult. The sweetspot on the m1 putter is definitely in the middle of the face. Do in part that the m1 is made from a soft 303 stainless steel SeeMore has also added a feel enhancing aluminum insert, both worked to perfection for my round at The Lakes.
I definitely found the sweetspot of the m1 putter a few times during my round as I managed 34 putts and a brilliant score of 91. No problem with distance control either as I hit a few bombs so I'm not complaining.

My round at Highlands Links Canada's third toughest course was to say the least tough. I not only had troubles putting but my ball striking was off as well. It wasn't the putter that was the problem here I was just off with reading putts and my alignment with the various undulations with the green.  So more of a misread problem rather than a poor stroke.

My rounds at Cabot Links with the SeeMore m1 were magnificent. I really had never played a course like Cabot Links before with slower grainy greens but the m1 didn't disappoint I had 2 decent putting rounds. I struck it well all two days. It was smooth as butter no muted contact from the SeeMore. That seems to be where this putter excels.

One of my favorite rounds this past season using the m1 was when I had the chance to play Rideau View Golf Course close to home here. The m1 performed beautifully on the fastest greens I've played this past year. Thanks to some solid putting I shot a 91 with no 3 putts.

RifleScope Technology
I love the RifleScope Technology it seems to work for me. Pick your line square your putter up hiding the red dot and stroke the ball. If your looking at simplifying your stroke SeeMore RifleScope Technology will do that. It simplified your setup and the alignment is more or less guaranteed by the RifleScope lines and the red dot on the top of the putter. The head weight is nicely balanced, neither too light nor too heavy promoting a smooth stroke and a solid contact.

Minor mishits are corrected by the heel and toe weighting and a strike out of the centre rolls the ball sweetly. Now remember the ball won't find the cup all the time but at least you'll know it was your alignment rather than your stroke. I find the RT great for practicing those short 3, 5 and 7 footers. The m1 is suited for a putting stroke that is slightly arced as it looks to release at impact due to the toe hang.

Conclusion
The SeeMore m1 putter is a high end putter with all the luster of it's competitors. It's slightly over-sized mallet will entice the traditionalist and convert the doubter of RifleScope Technology.  For me long term testing netted me the following over the 5 months:
  • made more putts
  • cut my handicap by 2 strokes
  • inspired more confidence putting
If your looking at a putter change. SeeMore is waiting to convert you!

Jesper Parnevik Joins The Cobra-Puma Golf Team

I've heard rumors lately of Cobra-Puma signing another golfer to their stable. I was thrilled to find out that it was none other than Jesper Parnevik one of my favorite golfers on the PGA Tour although his play has been limited over the last few years do to injuries. Signing the five-time PGA Tour winner to an endorsement contract seems like a no brainer. The Swede will be sporting Puma apparel and using Cobra golf equipment this season. His popularity and style will only increase Cobra-Puma appeal. Look forward to seeing him tee it up next week at the Humana Challenge.

Jesper will kick off the 2013 season at the Humana Challenge on January 17th, 2013. This will mark the first tournament Jesper plays fully equipped with COBRA Golf clubs and PUMA Golf apparel, accessories and footwear. Following the Humana Challenge, Jesper will make an appearance at the 2013 PGA Merchandise Show at COBRA PUMA GOLF’s Demo Day (tee number 8) and booth (1143).

Jesper Parnevik, known for his 14 professional wins, Ryder Cup record, flipped brim caps, style on the course and, of course, his latest Gangnam Style viral video, is making his way back to the PGA Tour following some time away due to medical injury - and he’s coming back to the course in style with the COBRA PUMA GOLF team.

“COBRA PUMA GOLF and Jesper Parnevik are a perfect match,” said Bob Philion, President of COBRA PUMA GOLF. “He has been a world class performer and a pioneer of modern golf fashion on the global golf stage for over 20 years; making him the perfect blend of performance and style that COBRA PUMA GOLF embraces. 2013 Nike VR_S Covert Driver Pics and Video

You have to love this time of the year companies getting ready to launch their new products. Golf crazed consumers starved for the latest tools of the trade. Nike Golf put out a video out two months ago showcasing their new 2013 Nike VR_S Covert Driver. If you haven’t seen it check it out another great marketing teaser from one of the best marketing companies in the world.

For me Nike Golf has never really been on the radar, not one Nike club has graced my golf bag, I know very rare considering Tiger impact on the sport. Now on the other hand if you were walking through Golf Town with my son and asked him to pick up the club he’d want to hit first the Nike VR_S Covert Driver would be the one he’d pick up. He doesn’t have any Nike Clubs yet he’s only 4 but man his wardrobe sure is packed with Nike stuff. He loves it!

The Nike 2013 VR_S Covert Driver definitely has some qualities that differentiate it from other drivers. From the picture below you’ll notice the bottom of the club is carved out just like the cavity back irons most of us use on the golf course. Nike has used this cavity back technology to put more weight to the heel and the toe of the club, increasing the MOI (Moment of Inertia). So once the club comes in contact with the ball it is more stable thus improving distance. The thing I like about the whole concept is the fact you don’t see this cavity at address it’s concealed by the traditional looking head of the driver. Hence Nike aptly named this the “covert” driver.

Check out this great video from a PGA Pro in the UK who got his hands on 2013 VR_S Covert driver while the Nike rep wasn’t looking.

You may have already seen the VR_S Covert driver on some of the major golf tours. The likes of Stewart Cink, Suzanne Pettersen, Charl Schwartzel, Michelle Wie, and more have been seen using the VR_S Covert in practice and competitive rounds.

VR_S Covert Tour Driver

The VR_S Covert driver will be available at golf retailers (throughout North America and Europe) like GlobalGolf.com on February 8, 2013 and in the rest of world starting on February 15, 2013. The driver will be offered in two models, the VR_S Covert Tour and VR_S Covert. The VR_S Covert Tour is 430cc and features a deeper face and a fixed weight screw. The VR_S Covert is 460cc and has a wider face. Both models will come with Mitsubishi Rayon’s new Kuro Kage shafts that are produced with higher carbon fiber density for superior control and power.

Energy Athletic Golf Shirt Review

I’ve done many golf shirt reviews in the 8 years I’ve been running this golf blog. The shirt from Energy Athletic Golf was the first I tested out that is made of fabric that contains ionic energy through a negatively charged ionic field. I’ve used an ionic bracelet before so I was intrigue as to how this shirt might help my golf game and energy levels.

Each shirt has the exclusive IonX Ionized treatment which embeds negative ions into the fabric during manufacturing. It’s called IonX Ionized Energy Fabric™.

The manufacturer says that a study of twelve rugby players showed a “measurable increase in average power when wearing IonX during repetitive, short duration, high intensity exercise, very similar to movements used throughout the golf swing.”

The shirt I got to test out was Energy Athletics long sleeve version in neutron navy

I got to wear my Energy Athletic golf shirt for three rounds here in the Ottawa area this Fall. As far as giving me any extra power and energy for my golf game I really didn’t find it improved my game in those areas.

Where I did find it help my energy levels was when I wore the shirt during my regular job as a mail carrier for Canada Post. I have an incredibly demanding route with over 800 points of call. The days I wore the Energy Athletic shirt I definitely notice my energy levels were better and I still had energy after a 10-12 hours shift. Was it the shirt? Possibly because I keep my routines the same and the Energy Athletic Shirt was the different variable.

I still can’t honestly say 100% it was the shirt. What I can say is that regardless of its embedded ionic properties. The Energy Athletic golf shirt is one comfortable shirt, the mix of 95% polyester and 5% spandex was very lightweight and the XL fit great for my 6’4” frame. The fabric of the shirt also has great moisture wicking properties as well. At under $70 it’s also reasonable priced in comparison to other premium brands. So regardless of its ionic properties Energy Athletic has one decent golf shirt in a plethora of colors.

Official Pics of the 2013 TaylorMade R1 Driver

During the off season here in the Ottawa area golf nuts like myself have a lot of free time til we can tee it up again (unless of course we plan a Winter golf vacation). You can only clean your clubs so many times and putt indoors on your putting green so often. That’s where buying golf clubs online can feed your hunger to play. I know during the Winter I love to scan eBay and my favorite golf for sale forums to find that club that was getting all the great reviews and accolades. I know last season I pick up a TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Superfast Driver during the off-season and it became my driver for all of 2012 which for me is astonishing considering my sideline as a Golf Blogger.

Now if your like me and over the last few weeks you’d search Google and typed in, “TaylorMade R1 driver or TaylorMade R1 driver 2013” you would of come up with some interesting speculation and pictures from various golf fanatics. Yes TaylorMade has a new driver for 2013, aptly named the R1. If you want to see the Official Pics of the 2013 TaylorMade R1 Driver then scroll down and feast your eyes on what TaylorMade has made to entice us this winter.

I love the new color scheme. Visually the orange and black stripes on the crown are very appealing to the eye. The way the new R1 logo blends in on the crown is very well done as well.

When you first see the new face tuning system on the bottom of the club you can’t help but think of a compass. Being able to fine tune your R1 with this system is ideal for both the amateur and pro. Seven face angle (Neutral, Open, Medium-Open, Maximum-Open, Closed, Medium Closed and Maximum Closed) and loft angles ranging from 7 standard and 5 upright loft options that range from 8 to 12 degrees (+/- 2 degrees). The R1 is a driver built for a golfer who likes to tweak his driver for his swing.

Thanks TaylorMade Golf for yet another groundbreaking innovative design. So what do you think?

The TaylorMade R1 driver will be available for pre-sale at golf retailers like Global Golf on January 3, 2012, with clubs hitting the streets beginning February 21, 2013.

Marketing geniuses TaylorMade Golf with a little video with some well known PGA Tour Pros perusing the R1 Driver. Nice work with only a fleeting glimpse of the driver.
