Fred Couples To Captain President's Cup Team In 2009

Looks like it will be announced on Tuesday that popular golfer Fred Couples will be officially named the next captain of the United States Presidents Cup team, according to a Golf World report.

Couples would replace Jack Nicklaus, who guided the U.S. to a 2-0-1 record in the last three matches against the international team. The Americans have won two straight competitions to run their record to 5-1-1 overall.

Nicklaus and Gary Player negotiated a controversial tie in South Africa in 2003.

Couples will be 50 when the Presidents Cup begins Oct. 8, 2009 at Harding Park in San Francisco. He is a 15-time winner on the PGA Tour, including the 1992 Masters.

This will be a popular choice with the players as Freddie is well liked good move for the U.S.A.
