Course openings in the Ottawa area

It's that time of the year again when a person's fancy turns to golf. Springtime is here, temperatures have been increasing, rain is forecasted for a few days this week. The dreaded ice and snow is started to melt off our beloved courses. Ottawa Golf has a ever expanding list of course openings(call first). When will you be out for me I'm thinking around my birthday(April 13th).

Fred Funk wins Players

Fred Funk wins the Players' Championship, kinda hard to believe although with the weather delays and strong winds the last two rounds I guess it's no surprise the guy who doesn't hit it that long but deadly accurate would win.(#1 in Driving Accuracy, #8 in GIR.)
I took another big hit in the OttawaGolf Fantasy League dropping down 7 spots to 62nd place.
BellSouth Classic starts tomorrow maybe I can do better this week.

Darren Clarke at Fridays Players Championship. His round started out alright with an eagle on the par 4 4th. But 4 bogeys killed him as he finished at 73. Today is another day although rain has delayed the starting tee times. Posted by Hello

Ottawa Golf and Travel Show

Checked it out this past weekend on Saturday. The combination Spring like weather made everyone who loves golf maybe think to themselves that golfing is not too far off for us here in the Ottawa area. Golf shows are always great for freebies or almost freebies and this years didn't disappoint. With many 2 for 1 including Manitou in Quebec, Cedar Glen in Morrisburg and more. There were also free green fees for eveyone who entered the door to Mont Cascades/Monte Ste. Marie/ and Smugglers Glen. An added bonus was free oysters on the half shell and mussels from a vendor from PEI who was trying to get people to golf/travel to PEI, which isn't hard considering the courses they have to offer(Crowbush, Anderson Creek, Eagles Glenn and many more). A buddy and I got to demo a bunch of new clubs, including the new Taylor Made R7, the new Big Bertha driver. Really enjoyed hitting a 56 degree forged wedge from Callaway. I would definitely consider purchasing a Callaway wedge very sweet. Tried the Nike Slingshot irons and they were interesting to hit also with an interesting design. All and all a great show. Come on Spring!

Big Bertha Heavenwood Hybrid

Just to show you how hybrid clubs are taking off check out Phil's golf bag from Doral this past weekend.
Driver: Callaway Fusion FT3 Prototype 9.5º
3 wood: TaylorMade V Steel 15º
Hybrid: Callaway Big Bertha 3H Heavenwood
Irons (4-9): Callaway X-Tour
PW: Callaway X-Tour
Wedges: Callaway Forged + 52º, 56º, 60º
Putter: Odyssey PM Prototype
Ball: Callaway HX Tour Prototype

I guess the 3H Heavenwood is comparable to a 7 wood/3 iron.
VJ even used one on a long par 3 this past weekend. I guess he'll be using it again as this week's course for the Honda Classic has some long par 3s at 246 and 221 yards.

Tiger beats Phil at Doral

Was very interesting watching the Tiger and Phil battle it out this past Sunday in Florida. Doral was playing a bit easier because of the lack of wind it seemed. Most players near the top of the leaderboard were shooting in the 60's. If Phil would of hit a few more putts he would of won, obvious disappointment. He did lose to the new World #1 though.
