Canadians At Q-School

Four Canadians are trying to get there PGA Tour cards this week, if you finish in the top 30 your guaranteed a trip to the big show. Everything unravels this week in La Quinta, Calif., and it includes among the 163-player field the following Canadians:
  • Brett Bingham of Red Deer, Alta.
  • Brad Fritsch of Manotick, Ont.(just around the corner from where I live)
  • David Morland IV of Aurora, Ont.
  • and Bryn Parry of Vancouver, B.C.

The four Canadians are even paired for the first two rounds. Fritsch and Bingham will tee off together on the Stadium Course, while Morland and Parry will walk the Nicklaus Tournament Course together. We'll have to see how everything unfolds after 6 gruelling rounds.

Ebay.ca item of the day

A set of Jim Furyk's practice irons used at the Canadian Open this year.(he won)
Here's the link.
Do you think this guy could of taken worse pics of the irons. He would get more bids and make more $$$ if his pics were more professional. My 2 cents.

Heroes

One of the best new shows of the Fall season. "Heroes", a bunch of regular people with some serious superpowers and how they deal with these powers. From radioactive guy, flying guy, mind reader guy and dual personality. Extraordinary people with extraordinary abilities. Save the Cheerleader, save the World.
If you've missed any episodes check them out online here.

Last game of the year.....probably

Played golf today the first time in the month of November since we moved from North Vancouver, where of course you can golf year round. The round was a bit chaotic as I never really found my swing. Had a birdie and 3 pars but the other 14 holes were a mix of 6s,7s, and 8s. Considering I've only played 3 times since the beginning of September, what was I expecting. At least the company was good and the weather cooperated. The course we played was Greensmere a short 10 min drive from the West End of Kanata. Next year they'll be opening another 18 holes for there facility, can't wait.

PGA Tour Q-School this week

There are 17 Canadians in the second stage of PGA Tour Q-School this week. A Canadian has survived the craziest of Q-School and earned his card each of the last two years. David Hearn in 2004 and Ian Leggatt last year. Good luck boys. Check out the leaderboard.

Purse increasing for Ladies Canadian Open

Nice to see the increase in money for next years CN Canadian Women's Open. The purse will increase to $2.25 million (all figures US) from $1.7 million for next year's Open making the event the fifth most lucrative tournament on the LPGA Tour schedule. This is the second time CN has upped the prize money since taking over as title sponsor last November. Whoever wins next year will pocket as cool $337,500. Next year's event is at the Mayfair G&CC in Edmonton. More info can be found here at RCGA site.

PGA Tour adjusts FedExCup format

The PGA Tour adjusted the format yesterday for the final 3 playoff events at the end of the year starting next year. Players will be reduced from 144 in the first event to 120 in the second and finally 70 in the final event. Quite the interesting format to see who'll be the top 30 golfers chasing the 10 million for the Tour Championship. Detailed info can be found at PGA.com

Technology only goes so far

Was speaking to my father-in-law over the weekend and he was saying a couple of his buddies that he plays golf regularly with got some new drivers. One a new Ping Rapture and the other an R5 draw bias model. His comments were interesting in that his buddy(a golfer prone to slicing) who got the draw bias driver was still slicing the ball. My comments back were maybe he should of spent the $$$ on lessons. The guy with the new shining "Rapture" maybe out drove my father-in-law a few times by maybe 10 yds. or so. nothing earth shattering, my father-in-law plays a Ping Si3. My thought, do we really need all the new latest and greatest golf equipment or do we all just need to take a step back and give the clubs we have a good wack. Me included.

Golf Angst

I've been trying to get out golfing lately as the weather has been cooperating here in Eastern Ontario but to no avail as the stars haven't aligned. I can only hope and pray.

Golfers' Prayer

May my swing be straight and the ball fly far.
May my round be blessed with no worse than par.
