Nothing like the Ryder Cup to bring out a bit of the competitive juices and the not normal golf etiquette. Chicago crowd was eager to please and Poulter and Bubba looked like they were enjoying themselves. Singles should be interesting today.

PUMA Golf Designs Ryder Cup Shoes for Ian Poulter
Our friends over at MyGolfSpy.com have posted this news about Ian Poulter Puma shoes this week. Seems they'll be matching his Ryder Cup apparel. Poulter is always stylin' in Puma attire.
PUMA Golf has created a selection of custom Neo Classic Pro Type shoes for Ian Poulter to wear at the Ryder Cup. The Neo Classic Pro Type shoes are the style Ian has been wearing since early 2012 when he made the switch to PUMA Golf footwear.
Ian’s custom Neo Classic Pro Types were designed to align with Europe’s Ryder Cup outfits. The Neo Classic ProType features PUMA Golf’s S2C Pro Chassis, Carbon Fiber Shank and ArchTec medial support; this combination provides the golfer with control, stability and power. The outsole features S2Quill Spikes with Performance INSert System (PINS) along with 130 S2Quill traction quills and 50 molded spikes. The replaceable and molded spikes are directionally molded to ensure maximum grip and superior traction while the PINS system provides improved balance, feel and lateral stability by bringing the golfer closer to the ground. Along with the spikes, the outsole features a full length flex groove as well as 10 forefoot flex grooves and 4 heel flex grooves for improved flexibility during your swing and while walking the course.
The Neo Classic Pro Type in Black/White and White/Black is available at select golf retailers now.

What's Your Winter Golf Getaway
Fall is great time for golf in the Ottawa area but unfortunately after Fall comes Winter and we don't get to golf once the snow flies here in Ottawa. Most golfers then flip the switch and start to plan their trips to sunny golf vacation destinations. Florida, Arizona and South Carolina being the most popular destinations.
A few years ago I had the chance to visit the US and British Virgin Islands but didn't golf this year I might be heading there again. Golf will be on the menu. Nothing like swinging the club in the warmth of the Caribbean when there's 3 feet of snow back home.
What places are on your bucket list to play in the Winter off season? For me to play golf in Phuket Thailand or maybe hit the links in New Zealand would be high on that list. I'd also have to put Hawaii on that list as well. I don't no whether it's from watching Hawaii-Five-O but man Hawaii is beautiful, golf courses look amazing too.

COBRA Launches AMP CELLTM Drivers.
One Driver. Six Settings. Four Fresh Colours.
MyFlyTM and SmartPad TM Technology Provides Unmatched Performance
CARLSBAD, CA (September 25th, 2012) – COBRA Golf is bringing something juicy (again!) with the launch of the AMP CELL and AMP CELL Pro Drivers. Unlike any other driver available in the market, the AMP CELL and AMP CELL Pro Drivers feature COBRA’s new breakthrough MyFly technology, allowing golfers to select from 6 different loft/trajectory settings (in one club) for optimized performance and distance based on a golfers’ swing or weather and course conditions. In addition to MyFly technology, COBRA is reaffirming its status as the first club manufacturer to offer a choice in colour by creating the AMP CELL Driver in four fresh colours - Silver, Directoire Blue, Barbados Red and Vibrant Orange.
“The AMP CELL Driver offers golfers the adjustability, innovation, customization and choice they want but have not been able to get - until now,” said Bob Philion, President. “We are taking adjustability to another level with our MyFly technology, offering 6 different loft/trajectory settings golfers can change to adapt to their swing or playing conditions. The technology combined with the colour choice reaffirms COBRA’s positioning as a performance driven brand infusing more joy into the game.”
MyFly Technology offers a simple solution for golfers to optimize trajectory and distance. The AMP CELL Driver can be adjusted to the following lofts with a simple wrench; 8.5°, 9.5°, 9.5° Draw, 10.5°, 10.5° Draw and 11.5°; and the AMP CELL Pro can be adjusted to 7.5°, 8.5°, 8.5° Fade, 9.5°, 9.5° Fade and 10.5°. Golfers can now customize their club based on swing speed (higher lofts for slower swing speeds and lower lofts for faster swing speeds), weather (lower lofts to bring ball flight down on windy days) and course conditions (higher lofts for more carry).
The AMP CELL and AMP CELL Pro take adjustability a step further with SmartPad technology. Unlike other drivers that require a golfer to adjust the sole plate after adjusting loft for a square face, COBRA’s proprietary SmartPad technology delivers a square face at address regardless of loft setting and still allows for workability to slightly open or close the face as desired.
COBRA’s E9 Face TechnologyTM with dual roll is used in the AMP CELL and AMP CELL Pro Drivers for an elliptical face shape with a canted bulge and roll that improves distance and accuracy on mis-hits from heel to toe and above and below the centerline.
Advanced Material PlacementTM and Cell technology work together to enable a 12% larger elliptical E9 Face shape to deliver faster ball speeds and high MOI (moment of inertia) on mis-hits. The Cell technology saves and redistributes weight in a granular way and is visible on the drivers in the Cell band which wraps around to the crown. This wrap also visibly shows a golfer where the weight is distributed, with the AMP CELL Driver having a CG optimized for low-mid handicap players, the AMP CELL Pro using a lower, more neutral CG position for better players and the AMP CELL Offset have a heel-biased CG for slice correction.
Taking choice and customization one step further, COBRA is offering the AMP CELL Driver in four fresh colours; Directoire Blue, Silver, Vibrant Orange and Barbados Red. The AMP CELL Pro is offered in Vibrant Orange and Silver. The sole of the club features a curved Cell band in the featured colour and the crown of the club is the solid featured colour. In the AMP CELL, the white Fujikura Fuel shaft features an edgy paint splatter graphic.
The AMP CELL Driver is also available in an offset model designed to help tame a slice. The offset design offers the golfer more time to square the face at impact and provides more heel-biased weighting to help hit straighter drives. The AMP CELL Offset Driver features an MRC COBRA AMP Shaft and a Lamkin COBRA REL grip. The Offset model is Revolver Grey with hints of Barbados Red.
The COBRA AMP CELL Driver (MSRP $349) is available in both right and left handed models with My Fly technology which allows any driver you purchase to be adjusted from 8.5° to 11.5° loft settings, including 9.5° and 10.5° draw settings. It is available in Stiff, Regular and Lite flexes and features a Fujikura Fuel shaft (60g S and R, 55g L and 45.75” length) and has a 460cc head.
The COBRA AMP CELL Pro Driver (MSRP $449) is available in both right and left handed models with My Fly technology which allows any driver you purchase to be adjusted from 7.5° to 10.5° loft settings, including 8.5° and 9.5° fade settings. It features a MRC Kurokage shaft (65g and 45.25” length) and has a 440cc head.
The AMP CELL Offset Driver (MSRP $299) is available in 10.5° in Stiff, Regular or Lite flexes for both right hand and left hand models. It is also available in a right hand 11.5° model in either Regular or Lite flexes.
The AMP CELL, AMP CELL Pro and AMP CELL Offset Drivers will be available at retail on February 8th, 2013.
The AMP CELL Driver is not alone in colour or technology. AMP CELL Fairways and Hybrids also feature MyFly technology and are available in the same four colours while the AMP CELL Irons are a clean silver with hints of colour. About Golf Shirts
Polo shirts became so popular on golf
courses; people started calling them golf shirts.
Although the words "golf shirt" and "polo shirt" are used
interchangeably, and the term "polo shirt" is more popular, some
people prefer the term golf shirts. Golf
shirts offer the professionalism of a dress shirt and the comfort of a t-shirt.
When customized with embroidery or embroidered
patches and given as gifts or giveaways, they are called promotional
golf shirts. Some of the most recognized brands of golf shirts are:
Ashworth, Nike, Adidas, Ping, Greg Norman, Tiger Woods, Izod and Arnold Palmer.
Golf Shirt Terms
Self-fabric Collar: A collar that is constructed from the same material as the body of
the shirt.
Placket: The part of a shirt where it fastens together.
Raglan Sleeves: Sleeves set with a diagonal seam from the neck to the armpit.
Rib Knit: A textured knit with the appearance of vertical lines, is very elastic and retains "memory".
Cuffs: The bottom of the shirt sleeve is called the cuff. Polo shirts have self-fabric cuffs or rib knit cuffs.
Tape: In apparel terms, “tape” is a narrow, woven strip of fabric. Better quality polo shirts have a “fully taped neck” which means tape is sewn on the inside of the neck, covering the seam between the collar and the body. This helps to retain the structure of the shirt, and makes it more comfortable in addition to absorbing some perspiration.
Tape is also sewn along the inner side vents to help keep the shirt tucked in.
Side Seams: Some polo shirts are “body knit,” which means that the body is knitted as a tube, and does not have side seams. As a rule, polo shirts with side seams have a more fitted shape.
Side Vents: These are slits at the bottom of the side seams and are either taped along the hem or double-needled stitched. They are a fashion detail that aids the ease of movement and when taped on the outside of the shirt at the top of the vent, they help keep it tucked in.
Extended Tail: On some polo shirts, the back is longer than the front to help keep it tucked in.
Double Needle Stitched: Means that the seam or hem is stitched with a double row of needles resulting in two parallel rows of stitches. A double needle stitched hem or seam is stronger than a single, in addition to giving the shirt a more refined look.
Horn Tone Buttons: Imitation horn buttons.
Pearlized Buttons: Plastic buttons that appear to be made of pearl.
Mercerized: The process of treating cotton yarn or fabric by it is immersing it in a caustic soda solution and later neutralized in acid. This process causes a permanent swelling of the fiber, resulting in an increased sheen on the surface of the fabric, increasing its ability to absorb dyes and greater strength.

Puma evoSPEED Faas Trac Golf Shoe Review
This season has been great for testing out golf shoes. So many companies making high quality golf shoes in so many styles and colors. I haven't done a Puma Golf Shoe Review in awhile so when you get a pair of Usain Bolt inspired Puma Golf Shoes to test out you get a bit giddy.
Puma is calling the cross category collection, evoSPEED (The footwear was developed for running, soccer, cricket, motorsport, handball and of course golf). If you haven't seen the commercial it's worth a look.
I got to test out the evoSPEED Faas Trac Golf Shoes in a variety of weather conditions (cool, hot, rainy, windy, dry) plus both walking 9/18 holes and carting 18 holes. Here's the highlights:
No Traction Worries
Puma has done a great job with the evoSpeed's outsole, combining both stationary directionally molded S²QuillTec spikes with replaceable S²Quill spikes. The close-to-the-ground design of the evoSpeed combines these two types of spikes and flex grooves in the heal and toe to enhance flexibility and 360 degrees of movement. There's no slipping here while your swinging your driver or using your wedges out of the rough. The combination of the two types of spikes plus the flex grooves leaves you with no worries about traction.
Can You Say Waterproof
No one wants wet feet when there out on the golf course. Puma has Storm Cell (a combination of waterproof materials, membranes, and seam-sealing) built in to these evoSPEED Faas Trac Golf Shoes. The one piece design kept me dry in the wet conditions I experience during my rounds. No wet feet here.
Puma Colors
Puma is noted for their vibrant color schemes and they didn't disappoint with the evoSpeed's white-limoges-ribbon red colors. The colors radiates from the evoSPEED Faas Trac. Goes great with my one of my favorites golf shirts Puma's Golf Crestable Tech Polo in Tomato Red.
Hands Down Great Comfort
There was no break in period for these golf shoes. Puma uses EverFoam, a special slow recovery foam construction for an improved fit. Slip your foot in and after the first round it conforms to the natural contours of your foot.
At $169 CDN at Shop Puma Canada these are a great price for what you get in the evoSPEED Faas Trac Golf Shoe. A whole lot of traction, waterproof, and comfort technology wrapped up into a vibrant Puma color scheme. My pick for shoe of the year.

AUR Golf Polo Arrives Plus New 2013 Spring Collection
The first exposure I had to AUR Golf apparel was buying some pants in the pro shop this Summer at Highlands Links Golf Course. The staff were great and they even fit my long frame and I'm mostly a short wearing golfer.
Now I'm getting the chance to test out one of their golf polos. The polo that I'll be testing out is part of AUR Golf's Aware line specifically made with fabric that is more environmentally friendly.
Here's a press release from AUR talking about their 2013 Spring Collection.
Now I'm getting the chance to test out one of their golf polos. The polo that I'll be testing out is part of AUR Golf's Aware line specifically made with fabric that is more environmentally friendly.
Here's a press release from AUR talking about their 2013 Spring Collection.
A|U|R introduces Spring 2013 Collection, now to include Stormpack Outerwear
Montreal,
Quebec - "A|U|R", a young quality golf apparel collection, with great
success in the U.S. and Canada, and is being introduced in Europe for
Spring 2013. AUR has a modern fit for the golfer/athlete who wants
performance clothing with a distinct look. For Spring 2013, AUR will now
include the Stormpack outerwear line.
AUR stands for 'All
that you Are'. The philosophy for this authentic golf brand is and will
continue to be the goal of providing the most value-added, aspiring golf
fashion on the market.
"We are delighted to
present our Spring 2013 collection and are confident that this is the
finest collection in the history of AUR, presenting a very tech-driven
and fashionable offering," says Mark Fletcher. "They've got a great look
and hand feel, and the overall styling is a bit more
European-influenced than what U.S. buyers might be familiar with, but at
a much more reasonable price and with a more relevant, current fit. Our
customers get great value for the fashion and quality we offer; our
products are very fashion-forward for the price point. We have had an
incredibly good presence on Tour in the past year with some of our
Players finishing in the top 4 at several tournaments and we were able
to get some great feedback on our line from Tour players to bring the
best style and performance to golf."
AUR offers the
consumer three distinct categories including AUR Active, AUR Authentic
and AUR Aware and now includes the AUR Stormpack outerwear line.
![]()
The Spring 2013 color
palette for men features basic must-haves in a myriad of colors that all
merchandise back to the men's fashion collections. An assortment of
cool grays and black mixed with additional bright blasts of color: Pool,
Crimson and Slate are the highlight colors for Men. For women,
distinctive style, fine quality and an aura of sophistication lends
itself nicely to a golf collection that is current and on-the-ball.
Fashion driven Sweet Praline features a stylish Geo print paired with
classic plaid bottoms. Pretty in Pink features Passion Pink with subtle
grey accents to provide a sporty, fun look. Purple Haze is all about
bright trendy colors. Wisteria and Emerald green are base for this group
with a cool diamond inspired print.
AUR Active
is a performance golf collection with emphasis on the golfers ease of
movement. This category features the AUR double-knit Dri-Max™ polyester.
These polo's features stretch, using
spandex, a soft supple
hand feel and a lightweight drape that makes it ideal for swinging a
golf club. Golfers will appreciate the long lasting synthetic fibers,
which create a strong, crease resistant fabric that is quick drying and
maintains its shape season after season. For example, the AUR Tonal
Embossed polo is available in bright colors such as pool, slate ,
crimson, black and white offering the golfer comfort, breathability and a
stand out look on any fairway, especially combined with the Active
plaid flat front pant in navy plaid, coal or pool plaid.
Next on the tee is AUR
Authentic, a collection of more traditional golf-inspired clothing. An
assortment of sweaters, vests, pants and shorts round out the category
in classic colors of black, navy, taupe and charcoal. Classic inspired
v-neck argyle vests and full-zip cardigans in black or indigo are
standouts in this collection. These argyle classics have a front panel
design with ribbed finished collars, cuffs and waistbands.
Finally, AUR Aware is
continuously the strongest growth category and the company's attempt to
give back to our ailing planet with a unique list of specifically
designed fabrics including CarboCool™, S.Cafe™ and Ecosmart™. This line
not only looks great on the golfer but is great for the world's golf
environment.
For Spring '13, AUR
welcomes Stormpack under it's umbrella. Stormpack is a continually
evolving outerwear collection. Given its positioning it was a natural
fit to incorporate it into the AUR family. Stormpack offers a complete
range of waterproof, breathable, windproof, seam sealed and lightweight
high performance and stylish tops and bottoms for men's and women's. The
Stormpack outerwear collection is designed so that each style can be
merchandised with the AUR fashion collections.
CarboCool™
fabric contains a blend of Polyester and Bamboo Charcoal. The
carbonized bamboo is visual on the inside of this material as a grey
tint. The benefits of this fabric include Moisture Wicking and Fast
Drying for comfort, as well as Anti-Odor and Added UV Protection for
peace of mind. Carbonized Bamboo is environmentally responsible, and
offers the same benefits that a chemical finish would without the
unnecessary harm to the environment.
S.Café™
uses a patented process that transforms the coffee grounds into yarn,
which is then used to produce polos. Most coffee grounds end up in our
landfills, which contributes to our overall solid waste management
problem. Producing a garment with S.Café™ fabrics helps in easing
landfill concerns.
Last but not least,
EcoSmart™ is a fabric made from Recycled Polyester Yarn. Recycled
polyester yarn is made from plastic post-consumer based products.
It is environmentally
friendly by reducing fossil fuel consumption and green house gases when
compared to regular polyester production.
The Ecosmart story
encompasses 2 different fabrics including 100% Recycled Polyester and
Combed Cotton/Recycled Polyester. The Combed Cotton / Recycled Polyester
provides the durability and performance of polyester with the added
comfort and breathability of cotton.
For the men's AUR
apparel the price range for polos is $38 to $60, sweaters - $50 to $110,
shorts and pants - $45 to $90. Pricing for women's apparel is $38 to

Glenmuir Hi-Cool Performance Shirt Impresses
Glenmuir Barnton Hi-Cool Performance Golf Shirt Review
I was more than a little excited to receive a golf shirt from Glenmuir in the mail about a month ago. Having supplied the European Ryder Cup team with shirts and knitwear for the last 25 years I've always been impressed seeing their products but I needed to try it out myself. I was real curious and excited to test out their Mens Barnton Hi-Cool Performance shirt in Black/White.
Cool Department
When I first wore the Barnton Shirt on the golf course I was very impressed with the softest of the fabric, a blend of cotton, polyester and Hi-Cool. I was a little skeptical about how this cotton blend golf shirt was going to keep me cool in Ottawa's hot Summer. Glenmuir's shirt got top marks in the "keeping cool" department. The Hi-Cool moisture management system is amazing. It keeps the moisture away from your skin and you stay comfortable for your whole round.
The Fit
I really was impressed with fit of the Glenmuir Barnton Golf Shirt. At 6'5" 205lbs I don't want a baggie shirt that fits good in the shoulders but is too short or vice versa. A large fit perfect with a more fitted feel which is perfect for my frame.
The Little Things
Glenmuir really did a good job with the contrasting accents of this shirt. Around the neck, arms, back and down the front of the shirt really makes the shirt more stylish but not to bold. Love the Glenmuir 1891 logo that sits above the right sleeve cuff, nice touch.
You really can't go wrong with Glenmuir's Barnton Hi-Cool Performance Golf Shirt it's both comfortable and stylish and the fit is perfect for someone looking for more of a fitted golf shirt. Top marks to Glenmuir for their well designed golf shirt. I look forward to seeing them on the European Ryder Cup Team this month.
The Glenmuir Barnton Hi-Cool Performance Golf Shirt comes in three different colors and sizes S to XXL. It retails for £44.00. Glenmuir will deliver worldwide and their website
operates a currency change system so the customer may view and buy products
in their. currency.
Glenmuir sponsored tour player, Paul Lawrie, has qualified for a place in the 2012 European Ryder Cup Team.
The famous US-Europe showdown will take place at Medinah Country Club, Illinois, US between 28-30 September.

About Golf Shirts
Polo shirts became so popular on golf courses; people started calling them golf shirts. Although the words "golf shirt" and "polo shirt" are used interchangeably, and the term "polo shirt" is more popular, some people prefer the term golf shirts.
Golf shirts offer the professionalism of a dress shirt and the comfort of a t-shirt. When customized with embroidery or an embroidered patch and given as gifts or giveaways, they are called promotional golf shirts. Some of the most recognized brands of golf shirts are: Ashworth, Nike, Adidas, Ping, Greg Norman, Tiger Woods, Izod and Arnold Palmer.
Golf Shirt Terms
Self-fabric Collar: A collar that is constructed from the same material as the body of the shirt.

Ashworth Golf 1270C Men’s Performance Wicking Piqué Polo Shirt
Ashworth
Golf 1270C Men’s Performance Wicking Piqué Polo Shirt is a 100% polyester
performance piqué golf shirt with a three-button placket, self fabric collar
and open-hem raglan sleeves which allow the wearer greater ease of movement.
The iconic Golfman logo on the back neck associates the wearer with the
well-known and highly respected retail brand, Ashworth.
Performance
piqué fabric wicks moisture away from the skin, providing quick drying comfort
and making it suitable for office and corporate casual wear without any hint of
treated fabric. Unlike cotton shirts that absorb and hold perspiration leaving
the shirt wet and heavy, performance polos pull moisture to the surface of the
fabric where it quickly evaporates leaving the wearer cool, dry and
comfortable. This performance piqué
fabric also features an anti-microbial treatment which kills bacteria that the
human body naturally secretes in perspiration. This increases the life of the
garment and prevents odor build-up and residue that is commonly found on
untreated garments.
Sizes: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL
Colors: White, Black, Blue, Carmine Red, Navy
Also available in matching women’s styles (also
known as companion styles): Ladies’ 1290C

Toughest Course I Played This Summer
Without a doubt Highlands Links has to top the list of toughest golf courses I played this Summer. It was on my golf bucket list and it was definitely nice to finally play the course in July. For all its beauty Highlands Links is one tough golf course though. I played it from the white tees which stretches to 6161 yds. with a rating of 70.9 and a slope of 135. Pretty high numbers from the white tees so I knew I was in for a tough day.
Highlands greens I didn't find all that difficult it was the uneven lies that I got on pretty much every shot. Uphill and side-hill lies ate me up and added many strokes to my round. Out of the rough those lies were even more amplified. As a 20 handicap golfer who struggled during his first round at Highlands I found the course to be more than tough. I'm glad I got the chance to play Highlands Links I just hope I get a chance to play it again when my "A" game is on.
What have your experiences been at Highlands Links?
Some pictures I took during my round.
