Toms defeats Dimarco 6 & 5 to win Match Play Championship

Toms thrashed Chris DiMarco 6 & 5 at the Match Play Championship -- his 11th career Tour victory. Didn't see any of it because I'm working nights but I guess I didn't miss much as Toms was dominant from start to finish. I guess the consolation match between Goosen and Poulter was quite entertaining going to Goosen in 20 holes.

World Golf Championships - Accenture Match Play Championship

Have been off work the last few days so I've enjoyed watching the Match Playat home, even though the golfers I though that would do well this week all went out by the third round. The only guy I have left is Adam Scott who is up against David Toms. Not alot of big names left alot of guys playing the spoiler. What's up with Nick O'Hern and Poulter. Anything can happen in Match Play.

Smugglers Glen Golf Course

New course that will have 18 holes by early Summer 2005, looks amazing from the pics on the website. Situated along the St. Lawrence River and designed by noted course architect Boyd Barr. (Timber Ridge GC, Trillium Woods GC, Black Bear Ridge GC are just a few other golf courses Barr's Golf Tracks Co. has worked on) The course is probably less than an hour from where I live and will definitely be one I try this year. Lots of elevation changes and wicked views, can't wait.

Adam Scott wins rain shortened Nissan Open

It's too bad the rain effected the Nissan Open so much as it had to be shortened to two rounds only. Adam Scott beating Chad Campbell on the first sudden death playoff hole(#18) Adam's par to Chad's bogey. We'll never know what would of happened if all 4 rounds would of been played. My bet would of been that neither Scott nor Chad would of won. Oh! well... on to the Accenture Match Play with will begin on Wednesday.

The pants must of helped Clarke with the hole-in-one Posted by Hello

Darren Clarke's hole-in-one sweet in first round 67 at Nissan OPen

Darren hit a little 7-iron today on the 6th hole 199 yd. par three for a hole-in-one. Nice going Darren. Keep it up.

Nike Golf

Nike Golf has only been in the golf club business for a few years now (4 to be exact) but I guess they've decided to offer some clubs for us higher handicappers. Pro Combo OS irons(geared at the 8 to 15 handicap) and NDS irons(geared for the beginner). Nike is always makes a buzz at the big merchandise show in Florida every January, this year they did the same I guess. Although I have no Nike products in my bag. I may have to demo some of there offerings this season.

Retief sleeps in..

I hope no picked Retief in there pools this week as he was disqualified from the Nissan Open because he slept through his wakeup call Wed. and missed his pro-am staring time, thus immediate disqualification must of been real tired, he would of been one of my picks this week, Riviera I think would of suited him even though he's never played the tournament. Oh well next year.

Cleveland HALO Hybrid

Stands for High Angle Lift Off. Cleveland Golf's new offering of a hybrid. It's so new there's not even one on eBay yet. From the pics I like the look. Will have to attend a Cleveland Golf demo day to try it out.

A putting green can be bought on your own, golf shoes, gold clubs, golf shirts, the teeny tiny golf items yes but if your passion asks for your own golf course you have to be pretty rich to do that or save some money and go for golf course financing.

The Hybrid

Golf Digest is saying it's the most important club in golf. Sh*&%^%t I don't even have one, am I missing out. Even tour players are using them. My father-in-law has been using one(Taylor Made) for awhile now and I see the results first hand.(I think it might even be his favorite club). Check out a great article at Golf Digest where they separate hybrids into two categories wood-like and iron-like. Not sold quite yet will have to pry the club out of my father-in-laws hands next time we play.

Mickelson wins FBR Open in Arizona Posted by Hello
Nice win by Phil. The 60 he shot on Friday definitely helped. Jesper shot a 65 and finished T11, Weir was way down the leaderboard. See ya at Pebble.

Go Jesper!!! Posted by Hello

Black golf balls

I guess Nike is doing it as a promotion/gimmic on the 16th(par 3) at the FBR in Phoenix this week, I guess they did it in Hawaii a few weeks back also. Kinda cool idea. They're always great at marketing. Wonder what they'll come up with next.

Weather?

OK is it really February. I just cooked a couple of steaks on the bbq and there almost enough grass in my backyard to hit balls, 3 degrees high. Looks like mild weather for the next while, maybe my prediction of golfing by March 31st will be correct. Golf nuts can only hope.

Score Golf Top 100 Courses from July 2004

Was looking at the July 2004 issue of Score Golf and it got me thinking about trying to get to at least three courses listed in the top 100. So here's my list:
  1. Eagle Creek Golf Course ranked 52nd - It's about a 20 min. drive from where I work, all I've heard has been good things about it, and I've been back in the Ottawa area for over 2 years dammit I'd better get around to playing it. (Bring lots of deet as the bugs are supposedly bad)
  2. Osprey Valley -Heathlands ranked 33rd -It's close to where the father-in-law lives, hopefully I can convince him to go, maybe it's one he hasn't played yet.
  3. Le Maitre / Le Geant Mt. Tremblant ranked 28/38 - Couple of hours away from where I live, but maybe I can convince the wife for a weekend away or suggest a large family outing to keep costs down.
I'll keep you updated....
