No Rookies This Week

This weeks Buick Open I'm predicting a veteran will win, someone that has a few victories under there belt. If you look at the leaderboard after round 1 there's a few that have done well after the first day.
Rocco Mediate -8
Jim Furyk -6
Scott Verplank -6
Woody Austin -7
Don't be surprised a few more shoot up the leaderboard today.
Check out Live@ from the Buick Open, hole #17 will be tough.

Another Good Fantasy Golf Week

Well I came through again with some good picks both with my OG Fantasy League and my Toronto Golf Nuts/Yahoo Fanatasy League. With Hunter Mahan pulling out a nice victory in a playoff with little know Jay Williamson, who now can receive unlimited sponsors exemptions the rest of the year, but he'll have to weave his way through the Nationwide Tour, or as PGA TOUR non-member to nail down a TOUR card. The second place cheque for $648,000 isn't that bad either.
Mahan, in his fourth year on TOUR, made a 2-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to beat 40-year-old Williamson. He probably doesn't realize he gets to go to Augusta next year either. Good for Hunter.

CPGA Seniors' Championship Coming To Kanata

The tournament will be held July 19-22 for the third consecutive year at The Marshes Golf Club, just down the street from where I work at the Brookstreet Resort in Kanata, Ontario. This course is a favourite in the area and has held the Seniors' Championship the last three years.
It was also announced that Canadian golf marvel Dave Barr will play in this year’s Seniors’ Championship tournament at The Marshes definitely a big draw for Canadian golfers wanting to see some Seniors' Tournament action.
The $55,000 BreconRidge Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship is a three-day, 54-hole individual stroke-play competition open to Canadian PGA Professionals 50 and older. The Super Senior (60 and older) and Diamond (70 and older) division will be contested over two days of 36 holes.

My Picks For The U.S. Open

So the talk about the U.S. Open all week has been about how tough the course is going to play with some long par 3s, crazy rough, and narrow fairways. We won't get into the stimp factor of the greens. Last year Geoff Ogilivy won with a score of +5. I'm sure the winner will be around this score, it should be interesting, I know I'll be tuned in. Here go my picks for the tournament in no particular order.
Arron Oberholser- long shot but has played well the last two US Opens
VJ- will grind out a good score
Els -some old Oakmont vibes.
Furyk - has been playing well as of late
TW -focused for the Majors
Garcia - he's due for a Major could it be this week.
Harrington - see above

Nice 62 Woody

Who would of though Woody Austin would of pulled a 62 out of nowhere to win the Stanford St. Jude Championship by five strokes. Betcha didn't have him in your Fantasy Pool. He'd only made 4 of 9 cuts at this tournament previously, best finish being a T44. Not exactly great. Great for him though his first win since 2004 and third overall, another 40-something with a win this season. You had to feel sorry for Adam Scott who seems to just not be able to close out a tournament. With his final round 75 he ended up 7th. Will a low profiling like Austin surface at the US Open or will a big guy emerge.

Seven Canadians Earn Canadian Tour Cards At Q-School

Seven Canadians were among the 16 players to earn Canadian Tour cards this past Friday on the final day of the Tour's spring qualifying school.

American Thomas Petersson posted a final-day even par 70 at Belmont Golf Club in Langley, BC to take medallist honours. Petersson had a four-round total of 13-under 267, finishing four shots clear of runners-up Brian Benedictson of Comox, B.C., Andrew Parr of London, Ont., and American Pan Singhaseni.

The top seven players after Friday's fourth round earned exempt status for the remainder of the Canadian Tour's 2007 schedule, which resumes next week in Victoria. Surrey's Greg McAuley lost a three-man playoff for the last exempt spot. He was one of nine players to earn conditional status. They included Greg Machtaler of Summerland, Tyler Pitt of Coldstream, Stephen Thomas of Vancouver and former European Tour winner Rolf Muntz of the Netherlands.

The successful qualifiers will now head to Victoria for next week's Times Colonist Open, which kicks off the Canadian Tour's summer-long run across Canada.

My First Match Play Showdown

Sorry for my recent lack of posting, I was sick recently but am now better.
My latest exciting development is being involved in my first match play tournament. It's been put together by LBH(LongBallHitter) at the forum at OttawaGolf.com.
The bracket consists of 32 golfers ranging in handicaps from 5.1 to 27 so it should be interesting who comes out on top. My first round opponent is none other than Dan Kilbank the owner of OttawaGolf.com
We will be playing at Manderley Golf Course near where I live and where Dan is a member, we just haven't picked a date/time.
I'm quite excited as I've watched alot of Match Play but have never competed before, so I'm a newbie I guess that's where the excitement comes from, will keep you posted as to the Match Play Tournament.
