Monty's Ryder Cup Captain Picks Video

Colin Montgomerie's Captain picks were Luke Donald, Edoardo Molinari, and Padraig Harrington. I was 1 for 3. Here's the press video.

Ryder Cup Picks - Euro Players Make Picks Video

Who would you pick for the 3 wild card picks for the 2010 Ryder Cup? European Tour players were asked here's what they said.

Ryder Cup Picks - Who Would You Pick? Me- Molinari, Rose, Casey

Tough choices for Captain Monty today as he chooses the final 3 spots for his 2010 Ryder Cup team. It's clearly down to Padraig Harrington, Paul Casey, Justin Rose, E.Molinari, and Luke Donald. So who do you pick and who do you leave off. Here's who I'd pick.

Edoardo Molinari - He will win today at the Johnnie Walker Championship and move up from #21 in the World Rankings putting an exclamation point on Monty's pick. The brothers Molinari will make an awesome addition to the Ryder Cup team.

Justin Rose - 2 wins this season on the PGA Tour. #22 in the World Rankings and contending for #1 in the FedEx Cup Race.

Paul Casey - Casey has only lost twice in nine Ryder Cup matches. A great player for the Ryder Cup format. #9 in the World Rankings.

"I’m under pressure to pick the best 12 for Europe.” Monty

So stay tuned Monty's makes his picks at 1:05pm EST today.

Golf Fashion Debate Continues......Who Cares About The Golf

Looks like Mike our friend at Chapeau Noir Golf has stirred up some online debate over his first article on PGATour.com. The Man in the Black Hat's article centered on the Top 10 dressers in the Playoffs. The list had Camilo Villegas #1 followed by Ian Poulter #2 and Rickie Fowler at #3.

Ian Poulter starts us off by saying Camilo can’t be #1 because his wardrobe needs no planning (To bad Camilo isn’t active on Twitter).

While today Poulter, Bubba Watson and Pat Perez had a debate on Twitter who can pull off what color. Poulter also called out Perez on giving no love to Justin Rose's yellow shirt.

Read this one from bottom up

The debate has even spilled over to The Hackers Paradise forum where everyone has their own top 10 list and will definitely tell you about it.

So here’s a few I like just because I can. What about you?

You win Poulter great all around look top to bottom.

Can't go wrong with two young guns McIlroy and Fowler

Brian Gay always looks stylish in his Sligo Wear. Here the Colter Black shirt doesn't disappoint.

Great look by Paul Casey this color with the white belt/hat/pants is spot on.

Atwal Rocking Some Expensive Kicks

If you were watching the action from this past weeks Wyndham Championship you probably noticed the eventual winner Arjun Atwal rocking some pretty sweet looking ECCO kicks. Arjun Atwal's preference; the ECCO World Class GTX. A little pricey for me at ($495 Canadian), but here's why:

  • With FootJoy closing down its manufacturing plant in Massachusetts last year and no longer making FJ Classics, ECCO World Class GTX is the only leather-soled golf shoe produced by a major brand.
  •  Like all ECCO golf shoes, the World Class GTX is touched by more than 225 people during a labor intensive manufacturing process conducted exclusively at ECCO-owned facilities (also unique to ECCO in the golf footwear space)

Product details
  • ECCO World Class GTX
  • Available colors in Canada: Black, white, white/ascot (patent leather)
  • Soft, breathable uppers integrated with a GORE-TEX membrane for guaranteed weather resistance
  • Outstanding stability
  • Shock-absorbing insole
  • Direct-injected PU and leather welt midsole
  • Water-repellent leather outsole with cushioning TPU in the heel area

Quagmire Kids 2011 Apparel Gets Thumbs Up From My Kids

I don't know who was more excited me or my kids when Quagmire Golf introduced their 2011 Apparel Lines at last weeks Las Vegas PGA Fall Expo. My kids excited for the Quagmire kids clothes.  Me the crazy golfer for the Golf line and the new Quagmire Premium line.

I've always been amazed at the amount of stuff Quagmire produces every season and next season wow they have even more stuff. Quagmire's PR firm sent me over the 2011 catalog. Here's what the kids loved from the Quagmire Kids line.

  • Really thought the idea of golf shirts that changed colors was cool (ColorFusion thumbs up from a 9 and 7 year old girl, 2 and a half boy as well)
  • Loved all the colors especially the purple tye dye and orange combos (The girls)
  • Plaid Longboard shorts looked fun!
    • They hope the hats fit kid.
    • My little guy just loved the picture of the young kid with the club dressed in Quagmire (after showing him the catalog we hit balls outside for awhile)

A Little Piece Of History For Atwal

Most people waking up today will look at the Sports headlines and notice a guy named Arjun won the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour. Who the @#$^%* is Arjun Atwal. Well he's a guy who lost his PGA Tour card after he couldn't make enough money on a minor medical exemption. So he Monday qualified for the 2010 Wyndham Championship and after firing rounds of 61-67-65-67 he won for the first time on the PGA Tour and garnered a little bit of history becoming the first Indian-born player to win on PGA Tour and the first to win both the qualifier and the tournament that follows since Fred Wadsworth at the 1986 Southern Open.

He now has a spot on Tour (although he's not eligible for the FedEx Cup playoffs) earned some cash ($918,000), and invites to the 2011 Masters and PGA Championship. Not bad for a guy who didn't know what his next event would be.

    Arjun Atwal WITB -Equipment news
Nice win for Fourteen wedges as well. More and more players have been using Fourteen Golf's clubs. Arjun Atwal trusted this companies wedges and ended up winning with them. Nice up and down on #18 btw.

    Come Join The Golf Cult

Just before I left for my PEI vacation in July Steve from Golf Cult sent me two of his polos for a review. I had corresponded with Steve for awhile and was pumped to try out some of Golf Cult’s apparel. Firstly because they’re a Canadian golf apparel company and secondly I’d always admired the cool designs on their shirts. You also have to like a company that has the following mission statement:
    Golf Cult’s Mission:
We make quality, functional Golf polos with bad ass designs on them. Golf Cult will take you from the Golf course to the social scene with attitude.

I can be a bad ass just like the next guy (I had the mullet back in the 80s) so here’s my views on Golf Cult’s apparel.

The first golf shirt Steve sent was a lighter Bamboo golf shirt with the "Fleur-de-GC" on the back. This "Bamboo-Flexi" polo is a blend of Bamboo, Organic Cotton and Spandex, a very soft fabric combination.

These polo shirts has a more modern fit, shorter sleeves with a fitted form. They are also 100% made in Canada, the fabrics are all treated and dyed in Canada. NAFTA friendly, with a low carbon foot print and sustainable fabrics.

Unfortunately the shirt didn’t fit me properly so I’ll be giving it away during the FedEx Cup Race coming up this week. So stay tuned for the contest announcement.

The other golf shirt Steve sent was a more traditional style golf shirt made from a 50/50 ring spun cotton/poly blend. A really comfortable polo shirt that fit great and was real soft to wear. Where this polo really shines is the amazing Double Wing graphic on the back of the golf shirt. The Double Wing graphic is Golf Cult’s signature design and I can see why as it truly makes a statement. I haven’t made any eagles while wearing the golf shirt but I’ve had lots of great comments from others loving the design.

I get to review lots of apparel but Golf Cult's designs really stand out. It's this distinctiveness that I really enjoyed. That and the it’s a great golf shirt to wear off the golf course as well (it has become one of my favorites).

Inspired by the Eagle and designed to put eagles on your score card. The eagle is the symbol of power, prestige, peace and friendship. This is not for the meek, you will be wearing power and confidence, let the masses know you have arrived.

I also like the fact Golf Cult realizes people want different fabric options for their golf shirts. Some guys fit the dry fit mold others like the cotton blends. So Golf Cult has decided to offer golf shirts with 3 different fabric options:

    Bamboo-Flexi
    Dry-fit Poly
    50/50 Cotton blends

3 fabrics to choose from, same designs on all, and 3 different price points. Something for every type of golfer. Nice one Golf Cult.

Be sure to follow Golf Cult on Twitter and Facebook as they’re always keen to get feedback about new products and designs. In the future Golf Cult will have a ladies line coming out in the Spring of 2011 call "Rebel Minx". They will also be expanding past just golf shirts and hats into a full line from top to bottom and outerwear for Golf Cult fans everywhere.

Check out this Golf Cult video I put together. There's two photos in the video of a guy crushing the golf ball that's Long drive crusher Winston Ahoy sponsored by Golf Cult.

Anthony Kim Catches Some ZZZZs Misses Cut

I know a few guys in my the PGA Weekly Elimination Pool aren't going to be happy when they see the video of Anthony Kim relaxing during his round today. He's played two events since returning from his thumb surgery both missed cuts. He wants to play in the Ryder Cup, he's still in the top of the FedEx Cup points. But he's struggling with his game and obviously not 100% yet but should he be taking a nap during his round and listening to his iPod. What do you think?

Quagmire Golf Has Peaked My Interest

And that of my kids as they rolled out their new Golf Collections for 2011 at the PGA Fall Expo this week (Aug 16th-18th) in Las Vegas. Co-founders Geoff Tait and Bobby Pasternak have decided to offer two new sub brands; Quagmire Premium for men and women and the Quagmire Kids collection. So far the only picture I've been able to find was from Golf.com who posted a picture of one of their new "color fusion" shirt from their Golf Collection line. The shirt changes color when it gets hot.

You can see from the picture below the white area was formed when breathed upon.

"It's our gimmick shirt of the year," said Tait, Quagmire's creative director. "It gives off a two-tone like tie-dyed look, but in sweltering heat it changes color completely."
I really don't know how this gimmick shirt will come off with golfers but I do like the fact the company is always trying new things. I also think introducing a line for kids is cool. Another thing to get kids interested in the game. Come on Quagmire post some pics of the kids stuff so my kids can see the rad golf clothing Daddy can buy them.

Follow Wyndham Championship Action With Free iPhone App

More and more PGA tournaments are going to start doing this type of thing. Why not create an app for fans to follow all the action  on their iPhone. PGA Championship did it last week why not this week's Wyndham Championship in Greensboro.

I like what the Wyndham tournament has done. It has got hip to letting cell phones on the course so patrons at the tournament can use them in designated areas near concession stands as long as the devices are in silent mode. How cool is that I can get player information, live scoring, hole maps and descriptions, tournament photos and parking information all from my iPhone right at the course. For everyone else we can still follow the action as well just not as cool as being there.
    Download it on iTunes here.

Here's the news release from the Wyndham Championship.

PGA Championship - Fog Lifts To Produce Some Birdies

There was a lot of waiting around as the start of the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits was delayed due to fog this morning but that didn't stop some players from having a bit of fun with cheese (it is Wisconsin right!) and each other (those crazy European Tour players like to stick together). Some waited like Charley Hoffman the 1st alternative but to no avail he had to book a flight back to San Diego on his iPad as no one withdrew.

Once play started there were definite birdies to be had if you stayed in the fairways and out of Whistling Straits many bunkers. Ryan Moore was one of my dark horse picks and he shot a nice 69. Check out this chip shot and his TRUEs.

Bubba Watson continued his strong play with the shot of the day and a opening 68. Round one hasn't finished due to the fog so it will be interesting what the extra long day tomorrow will produce for some of the late starters today like Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Matt Kuchar, and Darren Clarke.

    Votary Golf Makes The Cut

    Votary Golf Apparel Review

It must be something in our beer but another newcomer on the golf apparel scene has emerged with a little something different. Votary Golf has only been online selling their apparel since May but they’re already making a name for themselves online at golf fashion aficionado Chapeau Noir Golf.

Who doesn't like to get new, shiny, dudes to wear on the golf course especially when your about to head to one of the top Golf Destinations in North America. So I was definitely all smiles when I received my Inertia Azure Polo Shirt and Angus White Shorts along with a Signet White Belt just before heading on vacation in July to PEI. Only fitting Votary Golf, a Canadian company would makes it debut for me on the golf courses of PEI.

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

I mainly wear shorts when I’m golfing so being able to review some shorts from Votary Golf in PEI was great. The lightweight fabric used in the Angus shorts made them a pleasure to wear in the heat of the PEI summer. Definitely the lightest shorts I’ve ever worn. They aren’t your traditional short so they did take a bit of getting use to as they fit slimmer. The smaller front pockets are good for just a few tees and marker while the back pockets are much deeper for your scorecard. My favorite feature of the shorts is the contrasting trim on the back pockets and the "Devoted To Golf" inside the zipper . Nice touch Votary!

The Inertia Azure polo fit great right out of the box. The two things you’ll notice right off the bat with this polo is the length of the body and the shorter sleeves. Being a taller golfer I loved the fact this shirt when tucked stays tucked during my rounds. I also really liked the slim and shorter fitting sleeves makes it easy to take a free swing at the ball. The color of the shirt really went great with the shorts/belt.

I always love a good belt. Just look at the pros and the belts they wear, Poulter, Ryo and Rickie these are some serious accessories. Votary didn't disappoint with the Signet White Belt complimenting the polo shirt and shorts. Made of soft Italian leather with the Signature Votary buckle. This belt stands up to all my current white belts. Just make sure you follow Votary sizing chart when ordering your belt. I’d even go one size up after using the chart just to be on the safe side.

Votary Golf’s slimmer lines and color combination might not be for everyone but their apparel held up like many of the top apparel companies I’ve had the pleasure to review. Votary's apparel has an amazing soft feel when golfing due in part to the polyester/spandex blend fabric. Votary's apparel was great for golfing during the hot and humidity of the Summer.

Their customer service also stands out. Any questions you have call them and they'll give you the answer and I love the fact they offer free shipping in Canada. If you happen to order the wrong size just send it back and get the right size, no charge.

Votary Golf hasn’t been around that long (officially launched online in May) and although you may not know the name I believe you will with more exposure from their brand of golf clothes. Their line for this year had limited colors/styles but from talking to Jason Galindo one of Votary Golf’s owners you’ll see more next year.

It was great to see Votary make the trek from Toronto to showcase their clothes here in Ottawa at the 19th Tee Driving Range. So you’ll be seeing more of them in the future with quality clothes and great customer service. Votary Golf definitely makes Ottawa Golf Blog's cut. be sure to follow Votary Golf on Twitter and Facebook.

Ryo Ishikawa Oh! Canada, Lind Custom Wedges and Feherty Recommends

You can always count on Yonex sponsored Ryo Ishikawa for some great fashion sense. During Saturday's third round of the WGC Championship he was sporting a great red and white ode to Canada ensemble. Nice one Ryo especially the belt. Now we just have to get you up here to play sometime.

Not to long ago we did a driver review from Lind Golf. I see they've jumped on board the custom wedge train as well with two different style of wedges offered (Milled and Signature) as well as wedge stamping. Nice looking wedges!

Who's going to win the WGC Championship today; Kuchar, Els, O'Hair, Overton or maybe Phil. Who cares as long as David Feherty is his witty self on CBS's broadcast.

Feherty's videos are always good for a laugh, a writer asks -What would you recommend as a starting point to work in Golf?

No Swing Coach Needed By Bubba - Coached or Not Coached?

Some player have swing coaches some don't. Does it matter? Marla Ridenour of Ohio.com had a great article on some of the players involved at Firestone this week and the way some players have varied approaches when it comes to coaches. Bubba Watson doesn't need one thank you very much as he tweeted yesterday after his round of +1 and still very much in the hunt at this weeks tournament. Would you rather see the unorthodox swings of Bubba Watson, Ryan Moore or Jim Furyk or the cookie cutter/generic swings of a Sean O'Hair or Justin Rose? Coached or not coached?

True Linkswear's Final Sample Pic and "Canada" Prototype

Final sample photos are up on True Linkswear Facebook page. The TRUE golf shoe looks crazy comfortable with a wider boxed toe design with a traditional black/white color combo in saddle style. TRUE spokesman Ryan Moore has been using these shoes for awhile now and they definitely compliments Moore's style . They promise more pics soon so sign up for the True Newsletter on TRUElinkswear.com now. You can follow them on Twitter for updates as well. @TRUElinkswear

TRUE in Black with White Saddle

TRUE linkswear also recently launched a ProShop on GolfWRX a very popular Golf Forum Community that I've been frequenting for a few years now. They've been talking about the product launch that will happen in October as well as pre-orders and anything else related to TRUE Linkswear. So be sure and check it out!

Any company that does a "Canada" prototype is ok in my books.

Bubba Watson Makes The Cut At WGC And More...

Bubba Watson is one guy who gets it. He's a professional golfer who doesn't take himself to serious and still has time to answer his many fans (has answer my tweets often) on Twitter and laugh sometimes at his practice round partner's shot (Rickie Fowler see below). He's genuine, honest and he's leading the WGC Championship after the first round. During an interview with the Golf Channel he mentioned he just "wanted to make the cut". When the reporter said there is no cut, he said, "Oh! good I made it".

I've always enjoyed watching Bubba on the tube shaping his ball around the golf course. I greatly enjoyed watching him win his first tournament at the Travelers Championship and shed tears after the final putt. He skipped the Canadian Open because he needed a week off which I understand, I just hope we get to see him play in Canada. If you follow anyone on Twitter follow Bubba he's the real deal. @bubbawatson

    From Ohio.com by Marla Ridenour

Australian Geoff Ogilvy, the 2006 U.S. Open champion, is a great admirer of Watson. Bubba, that is.''There is a great lesson in studying Bubba,'' Ogilvy told Golf Digest for an August 2009 story. ''He looks like he enjoys hitting golf shots, and everything is secondary to that. Most of the tour is in this bad place where players think that if they aren't always thinking about their swing, it will get messed up. Bubba is the opposite — all he thinks about is the shot.''

Bubba also wears cool clothing by Travis Mathew another reason to like him.

    Lind Golf: Customization Made Easy

    Lind Golf Driver Review
If you would of told me a few months ago that I’d be using a driver from an Australian Golf Club Company that deals strictly with online custom clubs, I would of probably said you were crazy. Although I’ve gone through a few drivers over the years trying to find that one club that breeds distance and consistency. I’ve mainly stuck with the OEMs (Taylor Made, Adams, Ping).

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Well it’s funny how circumstances arise and my Taylor Made R9 460 driver is now gone and a Blackhawk Lind Golf Driver is now in the bag. Here’s how the journey started.

I got the chance through a fellow blogger, Mike at Chapeau Noir Golf to review at driver from Lind Golf. If you’ve never heard of Lind Golf before neither had I but this Australian Company is making inroads as far as golf club customization goes.

I got to chose one of Lind's drivers for customization. So I chose the Blackhawk 460 driver in black. Its compares in features and performance to the Taylor Made® R7 Driver. Here are some of its features:

    * Oversized 460cc ultra strong beta titanium club head.
    * Movable weights that create customizable launch angles and ball flight options.
    * 3 different weight configurations - configure the club for a neutral shot, a draw or a fade.
    * Includes two 2 gram weights and one 4 gram weight, a total of 8 grams of movable weights, as well as a weight adjustment wrench.

Once you’ve decided on a club you go through the following steps:

    Step 1
Go through the online MiFit Custom Fitting Wizard. Which will give you some answers for some of the upcoming steps. Consists of:
    Gender
    Club from 135 metres
    Swing Speed
    Driver Distance
    Height
    Floor to Wrist Height

    Step 2
    Custom Build Your Club!
    Consists of:
    Gender
    Dexterity
    Loft Choice + Tool
    Accessories: Lind Golf head cover

    Step 3
Choose the head colour : Black

    Step 4
    Choose your shaft
Went with the Lind UST ProForce Double Black in stiff.
    Shaft Length: + 1 1/2

    Step 5
Choose your grip: Lind double black standard

    Step 6
    Choose your ferrule: Double black

    Step 7
    Laser mark your club face
    Went with Ottawa Golf Blog

As you’re going through each step at the top of the page your club is assembled in front of your eyes so you can see what a vibrant red Lind UST ProForce shaft will look like or a grass green ferrule might look like on your driver. Thinking about a Lind Flames grip, see what it looks like before buying all with Lind Golf’s club preview.

After placing the order it took about two weeks to get my Blackhawk driver, pretty good considering it was coming from Australia. I got it days before I left on a family vacation to PEI. So my first few times using the driver were on courses in PEI. No range time for this driver, straight to the course.

    Look and Feel
The Lind Blackhawk is a oversized 460cc driver made with ultra strong beta titanium. The titanium face looks longer than most drivers from toe to heel and the face depth would be considered more shallow.

The Blackhawk also features Movable weights that create customizable launch angles and ball flight options. 3 different weight configurations - configure the club for a neutral shot, a draw or a fade. Includes two 2 gram weights and one 4 gram weight, a total of 8 grams of movable weights, as well as a weight adjustment wrench.

The Blackhawk driver has a nice classic pear shape and profile that sets up really nicely at address, with the all black setup this driver looks awesome. The shaft I chose was 1 1/2 longer than standard and that was due to the numbers that the online MiFit gave to me when I answered a few questions regarding swing speed, wrist to floor length and height.

    Performance
I’ve now played the Blackhawk driver about 5 rounds and it is both accurate and has great distance. The longer shaft feels great and stable and took little time to get use to. The weight of the Blackhack head makes the driver feel very stable and easy to hit. I’ve now gone to hitting more fairways. My misses are usually hooks but they are pretty much non-existent with the Blackhawk now.

The movable weight technology is so simple to use, just loosen the screws with the provided torque wrench and you can change from a draw, fade, or straight/neutral bias. Three positions may seem too simple, but I actually kind of liked having only three options. Most of the time my Blackhawk was in the neutral setting.

The flight trajectory on most of my drives was medium to high but I could alter my ball flight with my ball position and tee height.

    Conclusion
Love the fact I could customize this driver to my exact specs. Longer shaft seems to work for me and gives me the confidence to aim to where I want the ball to land. Being able to laser mark a driver with your personalized text and not having it effect performance is great and unique. At under $150 USD this driver is a steal with all the customization Lind Golf offers. My Taylor Made R9 460 has been replaced by the Lind Blackhawk driver. Enough said!

Will We See Another 59 This Year?

Who would of though that over the past month two PGA pros would shoot 59. Considering it had only been done previously on the PGA Tour 3 other times the odds are pretty remarkable. Stuart Appleby’s 59 this past Sunday was even more awesome because he won the tournament he was playing.

After playing 11 weeks straight on the PGA Tour he came up with a 59 in the final round and sealed a victory over Jeff Overton who stumbled down the stretch. Appleby hadn’t won since the 2006 Houston Open and was just trying to play his way out of a long slump of inconsistent play.

If you were to do some online betting on golf for the Greenbrier Classic, Appleby was a great pick for the Greenbrier Classic. At 60 to 1 odds of winning the tournament, I’m sure there were a few that were smiling after Appleby’s 59 and victory. I wonder if there were any betting on another 59 being shot . I have no idea what the odds would of been but if any Sportsbooks took bets on it someone out there had to have gotten rich.

If you count Annika Sorenstam’s, and the two Nike (Nationwide) Tour achievements. Golf’s magical number of 59 now has been scored eight times here they are in order:

    Al Geiberger: 1977 Memphis Classic
Chip Beck: 1991 Las Vegas Invitational
Notah Begay: 1998 Nike Tour (now the Nationwide) Dominion Open
Doug Dunakey: 1998 Nike Miami Valley Open
David Duval: 1999 Bob Hope Classic
Annika Sorenstam: 2001 Standard Register Ping
Paul Goydos: 2010 John Deere Classic
    Stuart Appleby: 2010 Greenbrier Classic

Will we see any more pros hit the elusive 59 again this year, what would the odds be and can I get in on some of that action.

Help Out Callaway and Dress Quiros' For The PGA Championship

    ****The Winners****

Have you ever looked at PGA Tour player clothes and wondered whether they got dressed in a dark closet. While there are players that are full of style some others need help. Alvaro Quiros not to long ago I would of said needed help, you be the judge.

Today Callaway wants you to pick out Quiros' attire for the upcoming PGA Championship next week at Whistling Straits. So head on over to Facebook and vote for your favorites. Top 4, Alvaro will be wearing.

I've never been real keen on Callaway's apparel line but looking at Callaway's Spring 2011 apparel line. I'm kind of liking it especially the Chev Elite Polo my favorite of the 8. Nice idea by Callaway to let fans choose Quiros' scripting for the final Major of the Year. I'm sure you'll be seeing more of this type of thing in the future from other golf apparel companies. I'm just glad he's dropped wearing the straw hat a la Greg Norman.

Eagles View Golf Course Review: A Nine Hole Gem

    Eagles View Golf Course Review

During my PEI vacation I got the chance to play Eagles View Golf Course. A great little 9 hole course on the Eastern part of the PEI. This course is like no other 9 hole course I’ve ever played. Spectacular views, elevation changes, challenging holes and a 1,000 foot wood bridge over MacLures Pond which connects the course are just a few things that make Eagles View Golf Course a gem of a course.

The golf course is conveniently located 15 minutes from the Wood Islands Ferry, 30 minutes from the Rodd Brudenell River Resort and 45 minutes east of Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Designed by Jeff Fuller, this par 36 golf course is nestled within the small scenic village of Murray River, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

I had the chance to ask Gary Sheehan the General Manager and Canadian PGA Professional of Eagles View a few questions about his course here’s what he had to say:

For a person who has never played Eagles View before what are the three most important things to expect from the course?
     1) Although we are only 9 holes you can expect your game to be tested. We are a full length design.
     2) Great Conditions- We pride ourselves on being the best 9 hole golf club on PEI. Our conditions are that of many 18 hole golf courses.
     3) Spectacular scenery – From the drive across our fabulous bridge, to the view from the 6th green, and par 3 7th you will love the vistas our golf course offers throughout your round.

    What's your favorite hole?
My favorite hole is the 6th hole. Although not our signature hole, the view from the sixth green is remarkable.

Favorite after round beverage after a day of golf?
     Caesar. A Canadian classic.

What’s the best after round local snack after a day of golf?
The Eagles View Clubhouse is always a favorite.

If you were to describe Eagles View Golf Course in one word what would that word be?
     Unique

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here’s my hole-by-hole description of Eagles View Golf Course
We played from the middle tees which measure 3103 yds.

    Hole 1
A real tough opening par 4. Plays 382 yds. from the white tees but plays longer because its uphill as well as usually into a nice PEI wind.

    Hole 2
Watch the bunkers and fescue on your elevated tee shot. You have to be in the fairway for a good second shot into this green otherwise be careful of a big number on this 340 yd. par 4.

    Hole 3
A dogleg right par 5 not too long at 471 yds. but your drive has to be long enough to be able to see the hole and to be able to go for it in two. Uphill second shot as well.

    Hole 4
A real brute of a par playing at almost 600 yds. from the white tees. A good drive is needed on your slight uphill tee shot. Get a good 2nd shot and hopefully you’ll just have a wedge in. Par is great on this heavily bunkered green.

    Hole 5
A fun 343yd. straight away par 4. Trying to stay out of bunkers is tough on this one as they seem to be everywhere. Your second shot will be slightly uphill don’t go long here.

    Hole 6
A slight dogleg left avoid the bunkers on the right side and you might have a shot at birdie on this scenic par 4.

    Hole 7
Who doesn’t like a short par 3 that’s downhill and plays real hard with the swirling PEI winds. Sign me up for #7 Eagle Views Signature Hole.

    Hole 8
After crossing MacLure’s pond again #8 is a par that plays 152 yds. but seems longer. Saw a fox on the adjacent hole while playing this hole. Left is bad on this hole so if you hook the ball be careful (my miss usually)

    Hole 9
A really scenic finishing hole with great views of the surrounding area and clubhouse. With a good drive here you’ll only have wedge in hand. Can you say birdie?

If your ever planning to golf in PEI take a couple hours out and try Eagles View you won’t be disappointed a great par 36 test of golf. On a hot day I would definitely suggest a cart as it’s a pretty hilly course with a few long walks between holes. We played on a hot Summer day and were pretty tired after just 9 holes. So if your on vacation take it easy and take a cart you’ll enjoy yourself.

I was there during July, so it’s considered peak time at Eagles View. It will cost you $21 to play 9 holes and $34 to play 18. They do have off peak/all day play rates as well as specials so be sure to check out their website.
