Puma Faas Lite Mesh Golf Shoe Review - The Lightest Golf Shoes Period.

Harness Your Inner Rickie Fowler

Okay I've had my Brilliant Blue/Limeade Puma Faas Lite Mesh Golf Shoes for awhile now and here's the scoop.

Lightweight Yes!
These are the lightest golf shoe I've ever worn. At only 6.5 ounces, Puma has developed something called FaasFoam+. Which is basically a proprietary blend of foam and rubber that is 25% lighter than previous foams. Wearing the Faas Lite Mesh shoes my feet never seem to get tired with my active lifestyle. I've worn them golfing, both at my part-time job at Rideau View Golf Club as well as my main job delivering mail plus just out and about.

Durability
Being so light I was a little worried to see how they'd hold up both on and off the golf course. For a shoe you can basically roll up into a ball I've had no troubles with the Puma Faas Lite Mesh's durability. Puma’s “SmartQull” pattern and corrugated flex grooves haven't worn down which is surprising considering they're made of such a super light foam.

Rickie Fowler Flair
The colors are perfect for those that like a bit of Fowler Flair. In Brilliant Blue/Limeade, Vibrant Orange/White, Black/White.

Traction - Waterproof
The Faas Lite Mesh were not my shoe of choice on rainy or wet days (see below as well). The couple of times I wore them on wet days I found that I just didn't have great traction that I'm use to when swinging the club.  Puma’s “SmartQuill” pattern and corrugated flex grooves seems to work better in drier conditions.

The Faas Lite Mesh shoes are not waterproof so on wet days your feet will get wet so either pick up the waterproof version of the Faas Lite (at 8.7 ounces) or wear your other waterproof shoes.

Conclusion
At only $90 retail, the Puma Faas Lite Mesh golf shoe is a bargain even if like me you only use them in dry golfing conditions. The Faas Lite Mesh is super stylish, lightweight and a perfect blend of comfort and performance.

Triple Bogey A Brewing - A Beer For Golfers

Yes there's now a beer geared towards golfers. Geoff Tait noted for his Quagmire Golf's "Not Fit For The Fairway" mantra has targeted golfers who like to enjoy a cold pint during/after our round.
So after Quagmire Golf's demise at the end of 2012 Geoff has seemingly landed solidly on his feet with this new venture.

triple-bogey-2

Triple Bogey Brewing Co. new flagship 5% ABV Premium Lager launched in July and they've contracted the facilities at Great Lakes Brewery in Toronto to brew this Triple Bogey brew.

Triple Bogey is even the official beer sponsor of the 2013 Phil Kessel Golf Classic which runs Wednesday, August 28 in Turnberry Golf Club in Brampton, ON.

The lager is under the approval process at the LCBO and will available in 473mL cans and draught in Ontario. Keep updated on all things Triple Bogey as Geoff is active on Twitter. I also hope to try soon so I'll keep you updated.

It's been a great week to work at Rideau View Golf Course. Martin Golf Apparel Review

A Gentleman's Shirt
When I was asked to do a review of some golf shirts from Martin Golf I was quite thrilled. I had heard through various contacts in the U.S. nothing but praise for Rick Martin’s high quality pima cotton shirts.

Rick Martin has been a prominent figure in the golf industry for years. The founder Fairway & Greene he later sold F&G and launched Martin Golf Apparel in 2011. Most golfers in Canada may not know of Martin Golf apparel yet but if you frequent private golf courses in the U.S. Martin Golf’s Collection are available exclusively through green grass distribution. So keep an eye out when your in the States.

The two shirts I got to review were the:

Solid Lisle Polo –Orchid

Palma Stripe Lisle – Lapis

Look and Feel
I’ve had the privilege to review and test out many golf shirts. The Martin shirts where one of the softest golf shirt I’ve worn to date, I’d compare it to a pima cotton blend golf shirt from the GMAC line by Kartel that I’d reviewed last year. These Martin shirts were of that same high quality.

I normally don’t wear 100% cotton golf shirts and usually edge more towards performance-tech fabrics but I was really impressed at the comfort of the Martin shirts.

I definitely liked the look of the Solid Lisle Polo better than the stripe. The Orchid color went perfect with a nice pair of black or dark grey shorts. I’m not a huge striped shirt guy so the Palma Stripe Lisle came in second. If your more a Davis Love III type the Palma is right up your alley.

Sizing
A word of caution about sizing with Martin Golf Shirts. Normally I take a large in most shirts but a large in a Martin shirt was a bit roomier. I tend to only dry my golf shirts for a few minutes and have experience no shrinkage with the 100% pima cotton shorts. Whether they shrink down to perfect size remains to be seen. So it’s best to try on for the perfect fit.

Conclusion
A very classic fitting golf shirt, Rick Martin’s slogan for his company is “Timeless as the game.” These shirts will definitely stand the test of time and your golf buddies will be impressed when you hit the tee wearing a Martin shirt too.
