Ernie Els Improves Putting With SeeMore Putter

Every since Ernie Els infamous 6 putt at the Masters in April he's done an about face in switching to a SeeMore putter and has improved his putting greatly. He hasn't had top results since the switch to a SeeMore mFGP Deep Flange Nashville Studio Series Putter but last week that changed with a T5 at the Quicken Loans. He's now 21st in strokes gained putting and he certainly looks confident over his putts.

Ernie is one of my picks to be at the top of the leaderboard at the Open Championship in a few weeks at Royal Troon. He's obviously won two Open Championships and plays well at a variety of Open venues. Ernie's record at Royal Troon is 2nd in 2004 and 10th in 1997. Look for Ernie to putt well and at 46 another Open Championship could be close at hand.

Peak Performance Apparel Review: Men's Golf Piqué

Peak Performance has done well with the classic cotton golf polo. Their cotton mix piqué shirt comes in a variety of colors and the one I got to review was white so I was I was pleasantly surprised how much of my golf wardrobe it went with, not only the Peak Performance Howick shorts.

Peak Performance piqué shirt stood up well out on the golf course both in hot and cooler temperatures. Although it's still a cotton mix the piqué shirt is still quite breathable. Very comfortable to wear and quite soft, vthe added 5% elastane gives the shirt a nice stretchy feel.

Make sure you check out Peak Performance's fitting guide for the right size.

At $50 it's very comparable to other golf shirts of this style but with just that little extra attention to detail and quality.

Peak Performance's Men's Golf Piqué Shirt is perfect for your next round of golf. A classic style and fit it will compliments most golfers wardrobe this Summer.

Arizona Golf The Choice For Sun Seeking Golfers

The last few days here in Ottawa has been unsettling cool considering our relatively mild and dry spring so far. Canada is all about extremes when it comes to weather especially in the winter and that’s when most of the die-hard golfers are looking to book their trips to sunny destinations to get the chance to swing their clubs in some warm air.

In recent times more golfers are choosing the hot desert climate of the Phoenix/Scottsdale area to get away from Canada’s blustery winter. When its bitter cold in February you can head to Phoenix and experience average temperature highs of 22°C and lows of 9°C. With endless sunshine the Phoenix/Scottsdale area is a Mecca for heat seeking golfers. With a plethora of public and resort courses to choose from there’s something for everyone’s taste.

For me I still haven’t had the chance to go to the area but with so many contacts in the area it will happen soon enough. Here are a couple of courses I have on my list to play.

We-Ko-Pa Golf Club
Located outside of the city on the Fort McDowell Indian Reservation, We-Ko-Pa’s 36 hole desert golf experience with mountain vistas is pretty much what I imagine when I dream of someday golfing in the area. No big city elements to impede my desert golf experience in the Sonoran Desert.

Troon North Golf Club
Troon boasts two 18-hole courses that are carved through the beautiful foothills and natural ravines of Arizona's Sonoran Desert. The Monument and Pinnacle courses are definitely on my Phoenix/Scottsdale golf list, best in State.

When you’ve finally made the decision to golf in the area and get away from Canada’s crazy winter. Look no further than Phoenix Scottsdale Golf for the best Arizona Golf Packages.

They’re specialists when it comes to helping you plan and design you’re desert golf vacation. Whether it’s what courses to play or where to stay they’ll beat any quote. They’ve got various golf packages that will suit all price ranges and include the above golf courses plus many more.

Take the guess work out of planning a golf vacation. Contact Phoenix Scottsdale Golf because these guys live and golf in the area so they know the ins and outs of planning a golf package so you can enjoy the area’s unique and dramatic golf experience set in a stunning desert landscape.

Golf Apparel Review: Peak Performance Howick Golf Shorts

I tend to wear shorts when golfing most of the season. I don't no whether it's because in Canada we're so glad that Winter is over we want to expose our white legs to the sun right away or it's just with any sign of warmer weather we just want to shed some layers. Regardless I think I'm a pretty good expert when it comes to shorts especially golf shorts.

Peak Performance has a pretty extensive golf apparel line and the Howick shorts I've been wearing this Spring our part of their 2016 Golf Line.

The first few times wearing the Howick shorts took a bit of getting use to, I found them eventually so comfortable to wear and the fabric was stretchy and breathable. They are a narrow fit so I went up a size when ordering.

The Howick shorts are made from 100% polyester with a 3XDRY® finish. This material is great for hot weather days, very breathable and quick drying.

The Howick shorts have some nice features including the pop orange accents on the zippered leg pocket and the velt back pocket. These shorts go perfect with the Howick Polo. At $120 CDN for these shorts the quality and styling shines through. These shorts will soon be your favorite hands down.

Golf Course Review: Oak Bay Golf & Country Club

Oak Bay Golf & Country Club is located on the eastern shores of Georgian Bay an area I tend to visit a few times a year. I was finally lucky enough to finally play the course which I've been meaning to do since it opened in the Fall of 2010.

When you're travelling North up Highway 400 you actually enter Muskoka County before you get off at the Oak Bay exit. With Oak Bay's picturesque terrain you defintely get the Muskoka feel.

Oak Bay's clubhouse just recently opened and when talking to Jason Bennett the Director of Golf at Oak Bay he was extatic about the opening and the putting green practise area that will be built soon in front of the clubhouse facing #10 and #18.

The staff is very friendly and helpful at Oak Bay. Jack, the starter gave us some insight into the course which was very helpful. Gus had to get a picture with Laurel the cart girl. She was driving an awesome John Deere Gator converted to the perfect cart for beverage/snack dispensing.

The Bermuda greens and fairways were in great condition and from working at a golf course you can tell the maintenance staff take great pride and care when it comes to the aesthetics of the course.

The greens are definitely firm but that's not unusual for such a new course so most of the time its best to be short of the hole for best birdie results.

With four sets of tees Oak Bay can be played from whatever length you're accustomed too. My suggestion is if you're playing for the first time play one tee forward. Oak Bay is a challenging course to play and playing a little closer will give you a better initial experience. My son Gus really enjoyed teeing off a lot closer on each hole especially the Par 3s.

Hole #15 is Oak Bay's signature hole. A very difficult par 3 that has a huge carry over a marsh land. It's to bad there isn't a bail out area on this hole. If you're short or long you're dead in the water. A hole you'll either be smiling or frowning afterwards.

Oak Bay has many fun and challenging par 4s including above, the short par 4 #14. You can read my other article on Oak Bay about my favourite holes here.

The strengths of Oak Bay:

  • Course conditions
  • Scenic and tough par 3s
  • Knowledgable and friendly staff
  • Scenery and terrain of the area

To play Oak Bay it will cost you between $44-$60 Monday to Thursday during high season which is June 5th to September 11th, $48-$69 from Friday to Sunday(Holidays). That doesn't include cart which is extra.

Very reasonably priced considering the quality of golf and now the updated services.
