Westwood Finds Some Magic

It was interesting to see Lee Westwood reverting back to one of his old putters to shoot a wicked 61 during the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Thursday. I guess he was within one stroke of tying Fredrik Jacobson's course record of 60. What a great round, he had 10 birdies to go with an eagle and only one bogey. I love the quote from Westwood after rummaging through his garage full of putters.

From PGA.com
"I sifted through a few and picked one out that felt nice and sat nice," Westwood said. "My putting has been dreadful for most of the year, and it was starting to irritate me, but I made more putts today outside of 15 feet than I have in the past two weeks."

Westwood finished tied for sixth at last week's Omega European Masters, so he might be close to turning things around. A win would go along ways to helping Westwood secure a Ryder Cup spot for next year.

Unfortunately today wasn’t as kind to Westwood as he shot a 73 and is in second place.
