"It feels great to get back out here," Mills said Tuesday before playing a practice round at Waialae Country Club. "It will be nice to play some of these events where you've played before and are somewhat familiar with the golf courses."
"You kind of fall back into routine a little bit when you get on the course and see it again," Mills explained. "It's good. It's nice to see some familiar things rather than having to study and learn everything.""You really realize there's not a lot of time there to take off," said Mills. "With not a ton of time between Christmas and the first event, you've got to work hard and use your days wisely.
"My coach came down so I got a lot done."
Part of that preparation included a trip to California so that Mills could play practice rounds at three of the four courses which will host next week's Bob Hope Invitational.
That's just one small example of the different approach he's taking to this season.
"Two years ago I had no idea about the golf courses," said Mills. "And you just don't have enough time in the day to play them all.
"This year I can kind of take my time, don't need to take the red-eye to get there and can just play one practice round."

Jon Mills Happy To Be In Hawaii
Nice to see Jon Mills teeing off this week at the Sony Open, it will be interesting to see how he does this year after having a terrible rookie season on the PGA Tour and then having a great breakout season last year on the Nationwide Tour. Good article about Jon Mills and how he's happy to be in Hawaii teeing it up.
