Michigan Qualifiers For British Open

It almost looks like a regular tour event today in Michigan as a total of 94 players teed it up on two different courses in and around Detroit this morning. Some were playing TPC Michigan and others at Dearborn Country Club. At the end of the day, seven from each site will earn a berth in the 137th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in England coming up in a few weeks. The Open Championship is probable the one Major that most pros would count as there favorite. You can see by the names in the field today trying to get one of those coveted spots.

Career Change?

I find lately my mind wandering about different career paths, especially since I've turned 40 who knows maybe I could make golf a full time career from golf. I'm not talking about making the Champions Tour in 10 years here I'm talking other areas of the golfing industry. You know make your hobby the career you can really love. Money isn't everything right.

I think what triggered it was the other day my wife came back from a massage therapy session and I asked her how much it cost. It was $75 for a one hour session. Pretty good wage when you have little to no overhead if you do it out of your home or some lower rented area. Who knows maybe I'll start to look at massage therapy schools. We'll see.

Kenny Perry Video Highlights From Buick Open

Holes 13 through 18 weren't the prettiest for Kenny Perry but with some clutch short game he claimed his second win of the year yesterday at the Buick Open. It looked like Woody Austin might stick around for a playoff but bogeys at 17 and 18 had him falter to second place with Bubba Watson. You have to admire Perry for sticking to his game plan of playing in the Ryder Cup and playing events that he knew he could play well in, he got a bit of flack for not playing the US Open but now he Perry can only smile wide because the Ryder Cup is in his home state and he'll be their on the team.

Never Get Lost Going To The Golf Course Again

If your like me and play alot of different courses during the golf season this may also happen to you. I'll look usually on Google Maps for the best route if it's a new course I've never played before and 9 times out of ten I get lost or delayed by taking one wrong turn or another. The playing partners definitely don't like when I arrive late even if it's just a few minutes.

Well it looks like Buy.com might have another sale that might just cure my problems with arriving late for tee times. This week they have a great little Nextar Navigation System on sale for a measly $149.99. It's hard to believe you can get one of these for so cheap all with a 4.3 inch Touch Screen Display and pre-loaded with U.S. and Canadian maps. Can you imagine when I'm on vacation in the States I won't get lost going to the golf course thus I can get more golf in. It even has a built-in Stereo Speaker so I won't have any problems hearing the directions great for us over 40 guys. If you use Google Checkout you'll get an additional $10 off as well so I've got my eye on this one for sure.

For The Golfer Who Doesn't Quite Have Everything

I'm sure most of you have heard a few horror stories of a fellow golfer having his clubs stolen never to be seen again. I know it's sometimes hard to imagine but I know I think of it often even if I leave my clubs unattended just for a few moments. Mainly because I've know a few people that have had clubs stolen and I know the price of some of these clubs. Some putters and drivers are well over $300 new. Recently I found out about this great hidden spy camera that looks your everyday water bottle but in fact it's a wireless hidden camera. Tell me this wouldn't be great to catch those unsuspecting thieves. Great idea for the golfer who doesn't quite have everything.

Hitting The Golf Range To Get Rid Of Hook

OK right now I'm struggling with hooking the ball especially off my driver. Up until about 2 weeks ago my driver was my favorite club. I was hitting it well with more consistency. Now my last 2 rounds the hook has invaded my swing and today I tried going to the range to try to get rid of it here's how it went. I must of hit 100 or so balls with my driver and still I could figure it out. I was tinkering with my grip and also with ball position. Still the majority of my shots were 180-200 yd. hooks. I think some of the people around me where starting to feel my pain and wrath as a few teens badly in need of acne treatments moved away from me quickly when steam started to come out of my bald head. They were of course killing all their clubs including their drivers. Damn kids. Back to the drawing board.

Nice Chip Appleby

I had to choose Stuart Appleby as one of picks in my Fantasy League this week as he's had a good run of late. He's made 12 of 14 cuts with 5 top 10s and 10 top 25s. Unfortunately today he didn't have a good day posting a 72 when everyone was going low. Here's a nice chip from Appleby from the 2nd round.

Jonathan Byrd's Driver Swing Vision

He's not in the field this week but check out Jonathan Byrd's swing from this year at the TPC Sugarloaf.

Want a Change To Your Blog?

As a webmaster of a few blogs and websites I'm always looking at ways to improve my site visually, plus I want to make any users experience good and one they'll come back to after bookmarking my site. On the topic of themes for blogs there are so many out there how do you differentiate your blog from the other ones out in cyberspace with so many themes. Well with a little knowledge of programming you can make those wordpress themes your own with a little customized code. A good place to get started if you have a Wordpress blog (which I do) is Top Wordpress Themes. You can search by category if your looking specifically for a 2 column or 3 column theme or maybe one that's widget ready. They have a ton of themes and if your looking for a theme I can't see you not coming away with a few to choose from. I know it's peaked my interest in maybe changing my theme on my Wordpress blog. We'll see.

A Cold One

Now with more summer like weather in the area does it seem to you lately that more on course and after course libations are making there way into your rounds. You know what I'm talking about a few cold ones during the round with the guys and a maybe a few more after the round. They always seem to ease a bad round or make a good round just perfect. Now I'm not talking huge amounts like you'll need a liver cleanse or something along those lines but with the better weather those cold drinks we like to ingest sure seem to multiply around this time of the year.

Missouri Getaways

I always love hearing about new places to visit especially when it also involves golf. You know the type of place you might hear about but never really realize the plethora of things to do while relaxing on a vacation in that part of the world. Take for instance Branson Missouri most people myself included probably have never frequented this part of the U.S. but after doing a bit of research on the area I'm now rethinking my summer vacation plans. Firstly Branson Creek Golf Club looks amazing how could you not fall in love with Missouri's Ozark region. Branson Creek at under $100 during the summer to play is quite reasonable for this type of course and there's so much else to do in the area so my family wouldn't be sad if I skipped out and played some golf.

If your looking to book a vacation to this area Bransongetaways.com seems to be the place to go as they can customize a vacation package to meet your needs. Take my case I want to do some golfing, my kids want to do kids stuff and of course my wife has to be able to shop. Bransongetaways.com can make all this happen as they can make it easy for you to plan your family's vacation and keep everyone happy. Kids and kids at heart will love the theme park in the area called Silver Dollar City. Lots to keep them busy and happy which when you have kids on a vacation is very important. They have many couples packages that involve various live entertainment in Branson as well as other popular attractions. Definitely something for everyone. Check it out I know I am.

Nice Par Putt Tiger

An amazing par putt by Tiger Woods on the 10th hole of the US Open Playoff between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate. He seems to be able to hit these kinds of putts at will sometimes and this one came just before Rocco was going to go on a bit of a birdie binge.

Should Of Played Mahogany Run

A few years ago I had the chance to visit the Virgin Islands including both the U.S. and the British Islands. One thing I regret doing when I was there was to play some golf especially when I visited St. Thomas. I had the chance to play Mahogany Run golf course an amazing 18 hole course designed by George and Tom Fazio. Seeing the pictures of the infamous Devil's Triangle a trio of spectacular golf holes along the Atlantic Ocean (13th,14th, and 15th) I knew I should of went but I was doing alot of Island hopping so playing Mahogany Run ended up not being feasible. So if i ever get back to the Virgin Islands I'm going to play the Run and stay awhile in one of those nice St. Thomas villa rentals.

Day 4 US Open Highlights/Lowlights

Day 4 of the US Open obviously set up what happened yesterday between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate so lets take a look at some highlights and some lowlights from Sunday at the US Open at Torrey Pines.

U.S. Open Thoughts

This weekend was of course the U.S. Open and of course Father's Day and for me more of my focus was on Father's Day as I had a great weekend with my wife and my kids and my own Father and Mom but I did happen to come home right at the time Tiger was sinking a putt to extent the U.S. Open into today. Everyone knew he would make it including Rocco who said it out loud as soon as Tiger made the putt. Will make for interesting T.V. today. My thoughts are Tiger will lose to Rocco who will hit mostly in the fairways and beat Tiger head to head over 18 holes. We'll see. Here's how my picks did this past weekend.

Tiger Woods-TBD
Mike Weir - T18
Geoff Ogilvy- T9
Luke Donald- WD
Sergio Garcia- T18
Phil Mickelson- T18
Padraig Harrington- T36

Never Lose The Imagination

For those of you who have kids especially girls you'll know when I speak of the way your kids love to dress up when they are young. It's like it's an ingrain thing or something they just love to dress up and pretend to be a princess or a fairy or just about anything their imagination can take them. I know I've seen my girls come up from our downstairs play area looking like they just spent hundreds of dollars on renaissance costumes they look that sharp. I guess as parents you never want them to lose their imagination especially when they get older although they might not dress up anymore you never want them to lose that sparkle in their eyes. I know my kids make me slow down and regain that sparkle. :)

Ideas For Fathers Day

With Father's Day just next weekend I find this time of the year to be quite interesting speaking as a father of three lovely children. You know we really don't need to much and don't expect a whole lot and sometimes just a chance to play a nice Sunday round of golf with your buddies will put a smile on our face. I know I've been quite lucky on a few occasions be given the green light to go play a round and sometimes two on Father's Day weekend.

For those looking for a different kind of fathers day gifts I stumbled upon a great unique idea to really surprise your Dad next weekend. I know most fathers including myself love a cold beer on the odd occasion whether it's after mowing the lawn on a hot day or like I said earlier after a nice round of golf. Well how does a monthly beer club sound. Yes I know I've peeked your interest well how does a 12 pack of 4 different beers from some local microbreweries sound. Now I really have your attention, tell me your Dad wouldn't love to get delivered to his house once a month a 12 pack sampler of beers from small microbreweries from all around the U.S. That's what a Beer of the Month Club member gets. Tell me your Dad wouldn't have a huge smile every time he would crack open a new tasty beer. I'm signing my Dad up this year for the Beer of the month club I figure I own him for those years where I was a rebellious teen.

Called In A Few Favors For The Canadian Open In July

I'll be volunteering this July at the Canadian Open. This year it's being held at Glen Abbey in Oakville outside of Toronto. This is my first time volunteering at a PGA Tour event as well as first PGA Tour event I've attended. I'm quite excited about the whole thing. Although trying to find cheap hotels in the area to stay at has become a little crazy. I think the prices have magically gone up in the area but it looks like I might have a place to lay my weary head after overdosing on golf for a week, I just had to call in a few favors.

TaylorMade Burner Fairway Woods & Hybrids 2008

So I'm on the hunt for a 3 wood, I've never really had one before and have been looking at the R7 fairway(maybe even the draw version) and the Burner fairway wood to compliment my Burner driver that I'm quite happy with and along comes the new 2008 TaylorMade Burner Fairway Woods & Hybrids (June 20th is the tentative ship date from TaylorMade).

Nice Win By Kenny Perry

Mathew Goggin faded and a few players put a bit of pressure on Kenny Perry but it was his consistent play over 4 rounds that got him the win at the Memorial this past weekend. He closed with a 69 to take a 2 shot lead over a few players. The points he received moved him up to 5th place in the Ryder Cup standings, the top 8 get an automatic chance to play which is what Perry is gunning for. Check out his bunker shot on #12 he converted the putt for par.

Find The Right Card For Your Golf Purchases

Anyone who's truly addicted to golf and the thrill of buying and selling golf stuff online has to have an eBay account. With an eBay account most people will also have a Paypal account as well to transfer money into your account if you don't have enough for any purchases. It always good to have a credit card that has a low interest rate and fits your spending needs especially if your an avid golfer who likes to purchase the odd club here and there. Credit Cards Club is a good place to start if you want to find reviews of all sorts of credit cards information including credit card rating. It has then categorized by low interest cards, reward cards, balance transfer cards and business cards just to name a few. It's easy to make a choice with the information they provide I especially like the section on low interest credit cards. Good for if your make lots of purchase and want to play them off quick but don't always.

U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier Starts Today

It's interesting to see after Kenny Perry's victory that he has decided not to play in the upcoming US Open and plans to play this week's Stanford St. Jude Championship and then the following week after the US Open. This all part of his plan to make the Ryder Cup, which I'm sure is a given after his victory Sunday. He said he's never played well at Torrey Pines and his plan has never included the US Open. I guess it's his prerogative but there are so many today trying to qualifying for the US Open they'd give their left one to not have to qualify. Among those trying to qualify today include Fred Couples, JJ Henry, Chris Dimarco, Charley Hoffman, Davis Love III, Jesper Parnevik, just to name a few. Columbus Ohio will be the busiest place has lots of players that were at the Memorial will be teeing it up Monday.

You can view the entries for each sectional here, and check that page for results on Monday.

Golf Stuff And Pets Don't Mix

Have you ever left out some of your golf stuff maybe your golf shoes or golf glove or maybe even one of your wedges at your house and had something weird happen to it. I know a few buddies that have had their dogs chew up there Footjoy golf shoes. You'd think most pets would just chew on their favorite chew toys apparently not. Recently I could not find my 2 favorite Scotty Cameron divot tools for days I couldn't find them except when I check my cats pet beds a few days later and lo and behold I guess they were playing with them and had deposited them in their beds. Go figure.

Jerry Kelly In The Hunt At The Memorial

Jerry Kelly is one golfer who wears his emotions on his sleeve. You can always tell if it's a good shot or a bad shot although he tends to lean lots on either. I guess the highs and lows is something Kelly is always trying to work on and it will be interesting to see how he does today during the final round of the Memorial. Check out his tee shot from round 2 on the par 3 #12, very nice.

Golf Clubs Are A Changing Again

I'm going to have to get a few savings accounts just set up for my golf club purchases lately. I like to try different clubs here and there most of the time buying them on eBay or trading with other golfers online. Most of the time you can get a hell of a deal and get to try some fairly new clubs. Probably a bit of my game might suffer but I think it's part of the thrill of playing a "newer" golf club. Some golfers play the same clubs for years I like to switch it up often that's just my take.
