Last year I had the privilege to review the Olie pullover from Sunice and came away more than impressed. For the last few weeks I've had the opportunity to put Sunice`s Bollon Flexvent Jacket through some testing in various Fall conditions here in the Ottawa area.

The Sunice Bollon Jacket is part of Sunice`s Tornoado Waterproof Golf Apparel line.

Here's the highlights from Sunice regarding this jacket:

Autumn in Canada can be pretty harsh when your on the golf course. Most days golfing you`ll encounter weather variable including but not limited to wind, rain, sun, sleet and snow. The Sunice Bollon was created with golf and those variables in mind.

Waterproof Finish- The fabric that the Bollon jacket is made of is amazing, water beads off the surface keeping you dry and warm. It`s a high performance laminate called Flexvent, and it truly is top notch. I never had to worry about rain in a round when I had my Bollon Jacket on. The waterproof zippers, lycra action cuff tabs, and patented v collar with neoprene finish round are also great touches from the Sunice Bollon jacket that keep the water out and your core warm.

The Bollon Flexvent is an incredibly soft feeling jacket. Brilliant, that is still manages to be waterproof and lightweight as well. Sunice even backs it up with a 4 Year Waterproof Guarantee.

I really like the way the jacket fit. An XL was perfect for my built. I had ample room to fit an extra golf shirt underneath but still fit snug enough to reflect wind. I could swing freely wearing the Bollon jacket. Which is one thing that nice you don't have to worry when your golfing in the Fall. Additionally the jacket is so quiet you won`t be disturbed by noisy fabric like most rain gear.

Cool Factor - in-pocket ball cleaner - Most golfers will have a towel/cloth to clean their golf ball/club but Sunice by adding one in your pocket is genius making it easier/faster to clean your ball/club during your round. Nice touch!

If your a golfer that doesn't want to worry about the elements when golfing then the Sunice Bollon Jacket is the perfect addition to your golfing needs. At a suggested retail price of $230 it will immediately pay dividends by keep you dry, warm and happy during your round. Pair it with some of Sunice's other golf apparel and your envious playing partners will be looking to borrow your gear when nasty weather strikes.

John Daly Runs Out of Balls – Video – Australian Open

So much hype this week for the Australian Open as so many President Cup players including Tiger Woods tee it up a the Australian Open this week. Unfortunately John Daly makes headlines for his usual “Daly” behaviour on the golf course.

Everything seemed calm through the first nine holes of the tournament been then things went “Down Under”. Daly ended up playing the wrong ball (doh!!) from a bunker on the tenth hole, an automatic two-stroke penalty. Then Daly began to hit his approach shot on #11 6 or 7 times into the water. He then gave up shook his playing partners hands and walked off the course.

Apparently Daly blamed it on a lack of balls, another great one from Big John. Here’s what he said on Twitter.

Looks like John won't be invited back soon to the Australian Open and it looks like his invitation to the Australian PGA Championship has been revoked as well.

Cobra Golf Gets It Right With Relaunch Of Trusty Rusty...In Rust We Trust

The day after Halloween I got a package dropped off by my friendly neighborhood UPS driver. Enclosed a sample of the new Trusty Rusty from Cobra Golf with it's Tri-Bounce sole, all black finish and True Temper Dark Steel Shaft this is one wedge that screams to be hit. So far I've had it out once on the golf course and I've been impressed already with it's versatility, amazing out of the sand. Stay tuned for the full review and some press releases from Puma/Cobra Golf. Press Release:

IN RUST WE TRUSTTM
COBRA® BRINGS BACK THE TRUSTY RUSTYTM

Trusty Rusty Wedges are Back

CARLSBAD, CA (November 3, 2011) – Get ready for chipping, cheers and fist pumps - COBRA is bringing back the Trusty Rusty wedges. The fan favorite is back in three style-defying cosmetics that rust over time for versatility, enhanced feel and shot making.

The Trusty Rusty wedges come in three finishes: an all over pre-rusted finish, satin finish with pre-rusted hitting area and black PVD. Each features a non-plated finish that is 7% softer than chrome and will rust more over time, promoting maximum allowable spin and enhanced feel. The True Temper Dynamic Gold S200 shaft has been painted black with non-glare coating and precision laser engraving for a striking look.

“Golfers of all abilities looking for enhanced feel and versatility should use the Trusty Rusty wedges,” commented Tom Preece, Vice President of Club Research and Development at COBRA PUMA GOLF. “We used 100% Raw, unplated 8620 Carbon Steel which rusts over time for enhanced feel, shot making and versatility.”

COBRA partnered up once again with short-game guru Phil Rodgers for the development of the Trusty Rusty wedges. Using Phil’s expertise, the successful attributes of the original Trusty Rusty and new technology, COBRA created the modernized Trusty Rusty; complete with non-plated finishes, Tri-Bounce sole, laser precision technology – and they conform to the 2010 USGA/R&A Groove Rule.

“COBRA’s first Trusty Rusty wedges were loved by golfers everywhere,” said Bob Philion, President, COBRA PUMA GOLF. “We frequently get requests from our consumers and Tour Players to bring these back. We’re excited to be expanding into a new category, revitalizing the Trusty Rusty name with new finishes and improved technology. Our Tour Players already love the wedges and you’ll see quite a few in their bags on Tour.”

A unique and personal wedge cosmetic will develop over time as the Trusty Rusty rusts, benefiting the golfer by providing improved feel.  While the wedges will rust on their own, there are ways to speed up the rusting. COBRA will share ways the wedges can rust faster and invites consumers to share their tricks by joining the conversation on our Twitter handle, @cobragolf using the hashtag #InRustWeTrust.

COBRA Trusty Rusty Wedges Technology
The COBRA Trusty Rusty Wedges are made with 100% raw, unplated 8620 carbon steel that will rust over time. The Tri-Bounce Sole with rear scallop provides enough bounce for forgiveness but keeps the leading edge height low so golfers can get underneath the ball. The Lamkin 3GEN® Grip has improved vibration damping, stays soft and tacky in all playing conditions and does not absorb moisture. A longer length with less taper allows for consistent feel when golfers need to choke down on close shots.
  Tri-Bounce Sole with Rear Scallop
  • Higher bounce in the center with relief in the heel and toe optimizes performance for long, medium and short/flop shots
   Laser Precision Technology
  • Patent-pending aggressive machined grooves with post-laser milling. Features four distinct surface roughnesses that result in maximum allowable spin
   Specialty Rusted Finishes
  • Promotes maximum allowable spin and enhanced feel with non-plated finishes that rust over time.

The Trusty Rusty Wedges (MSRP $129) are available in men’s right handed lofts of 49°, 51°, 53°, 55°, 57°, 59° and 61° with a True Temper Dynamic Gold S200 shaft. Left-handed lofts of 51°, 53°, 55°, 59° and 61° are available as well.

The Trusty Rusty will be available at retail December 9th, 2011.

Are Canadian Golfers A Different Breed?

I posted a picture of me last week on Instagram from a golfing day at Equinelle Golf Course one of my favorite golf courses in the Ottawa area. I had heard they were closing on Oct. 31st so I had to get out for one more round. I had the toque on with the Sunice Tornado Jacket so I was prepared. The day was chilly but sunny and the caption I put with the picture was: "Is 6 degrees Celsius to cold to golf, not in Canada eh!". Now the course wasn't packed but there were many golfers out there toughing it out in the windy weather which made it seem much colder than 6 degrees. It got me to thinking are Canadians a different breed of golfer will we golf in any type of conditions are we a hardier breed of golfers. What possesses us to knock around a half frozen golf ball when flurries are eminent at any moment.

I think I got my answer when a fellow golfer from Denmark posted a comment on my picture. Here's his response: "Played yesterday in fog and around 3 degrees Celsius in Denmark. Not a problem :)"

Golfers in those places with short golf seasons are more prone to golf right til the end. Yes some guys/girls are fair weather golfers regardless of where they live. Packing up their bags early to explore indoor activities like cash bingo games, slots at the local casino or maybe an indoor pickup hockey game. But here in Canada and Denmark crazy golfers are busy figuring out which golf course are still open and flock to them oblivious to the elements because golfing outside in the beautiful outdoors sure beats swinging a club inside at a simulator etc. eh!
