Golf Course Review - Black Bear Ridge Golf Course

It's funny when you're an avid golfer you'll look to play golf at just about anytime or anywhere. An example for me was just a couple weeks ago when I was dropping off two of my kids to their Oma in Havelock. I knew Black Bear Ridge was a close (within abhor ) from there so I called them up and got on for a late afternoon tee time for $45/walking.

Black Bear Ridge is ranked 66th in this years ScoreGolf.com's Top 100 Golf Courses in Canada.

From the opening hole Black Bear doesn't overwhelm you it guides you tactfully around this lovely piece of property purchased by owner and designer Brian Magee, who I had the pleasure of speaking to for a few minutes before my round. A knowledgeable and humble man he should be proud of what he created here on this Muskoka-like land outside of Belleville.

The course was in great shape tee to green.

Bunkers were plentiful and well kept.

The many rock outcroppings were used naturally and without be overdone.

Elevated tee shots never get old.

Make sure you play from the appropriate tee box like most courses it will more enjoyable.

The design is not convoluted and good scores can be had just play smart and don't bite off more then you can chew.

The par 3s at Black Bear Ridge will have you thinking about what club to hit especially what type of weather you're playing in or time of year.

A sense of humour from the owner I'm sure.

16 through 18 are spectacular holes.

17 and 18 make you pause a little and give thanks for a beautiful walk around Black Bear.

One of the few that probably has walked the course, I can now see why ScoreGolf.com has ranked Black Bear Ridge #66 on their Top 100 Golf Courses in Canada. Great design, well maintained nothing over the top but playable to all levels of golfers. One course that everyone should play.
