More Than Just Golf: Our Stay at Owl’s Head Resort

When Gus and I made the trip from Ottawa to Owl’s Head Resort in Quebec last month, the golf was obviously a big part of the trip. But one thing that really stood out to both of us was that the experience was about much more than just the golf course.

From the room we stayed in to the food and the service throughout our visit, Owl’s Head gave us the kind of experience that makes a golf trip feel like an actual getaway.

The Room

After a day on the golf course, having a comfortable place to come back to makes a big difference—and our room at Owl’s Head was exactly what we needed.

The room gave Gus and me plenty of space to relax after our rounds, talk about the day and, of course, go over some of the shots we probably should have hit differently!

There’s something nice about being able to stay right at the resort. You’re not jumping back in the car after golf or worrying about where you’re going to eat. Everything is right there, which makes the whole trip feel much more relaxed.

And when you’re travelling with your son, those little moments between the golf can sometimes be just as memorable as the round itself.

The Food

The food was another highlight of our stay.

One of the simplest meals ended up being one of my favourites: a hot dog and poutine at the turn on Monday.

Honestly, it was a no-brainer.

After playing in the Quebec sunshine and working our way around the course, stopping for a hot dog and poutine was exactly what we needed before getting back out there.

We also enjoyed the food before and after our rounds. Having good options available at the resort meant we could focus on enjoying the day rather than worrying about where we were going to find our next meal.

The Service

The service throughout our stay added to the experience.

Everyone we dealt with helped make the trip feel easy and relaxed, which is exactly what you want when you're getting away for a couple of days.

For me, a good resort experience isn't just about how nice the room is or how good the food tastes. It's the little things—the people, the atmosphere and how you feel when you're there.

Owl’s Head checked those boxes for us. Pro Shop even lent us a Callaway driver for Gus as he was waiting on a new shaft.

A Father-Son Golf Trip

For me, this trip was always going to be more than just another golf trip.

Getting to travel with Gus, play a beautiful course, enjoy some good food and have some time together away from the normal routine is what makes these trips special.

The golf at Owl’s Head certainly gave us plenty to talk about, but the experience away from the course was just as important.

Beautiful surroundings, comfortable accommodations, good food and friendly service—all combined to make Owl’s Head a place where I’d happily bring Gus back again.

And if you happen to be planning a golf trip there, my advice is simple: don’t just plan your tee time. Plan some time to enjoy the resort too.
