As a top professional sportsman, sponsorships and endorsements deals make up a sizeable chunk of earnings but the majority of professional golfers around the world set their sights on winning one of the richest tournaments in the sport.There are few places you can earn as much money as a professional golfer than the European and PGA tours, even with Paddy Power golf betting. Whilst there is an emerging golf scene in the Middle East the US and Europe still hold the biggest prizes. Some of the figures listed below are mind boggling so the following golf tournaments are certainly worth aspiring to win (with the biggest prize a massive 8 figures!)
5. WGC – Bridgestone Invitational - $1.7 million

The 2017 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational will be held August 3rd – August 6th on the Firestone Country Club’s South Course. The current format of the event takes 75 players around the course, roughly half of the usual amount of golfers in professional golfing event. The 2016 winner was Dustin Johnson.

The Race to Dubai (previously known as the Order of Merit) is a season-long competition on the European Tour. The new name was to recognise the addition of the season ending tournament, the Dubai World Championship. The 2016 Race to Dubai, featuring 45 tournaments in 26 countries worldwide, was won by Henrik Stenson.

The 2017 WGC-Mexico Championship was a golf tournament played March 2nd – 5th at Club de Golf Chapultepec in Naucalpan, Mexico, just west of Mexico City. Previous versions of this championship were played at the Trump National Doral course in Doral, Florida. The winner was a familiar name on this list, Dustin Johnson.

The Players Championship (sometimes known as the PLAYERS Championship) is an annual tournament that forms a part of the PGA Tour. The field of participants is usually made up of the top 50 golfers in the world rankings. It’s unofficially seen as a 5th major due to the prize money and prestige that surrounds the tournament. Aussie Jason day pocketed the nearly $2 million in 2016.
1. FedEx Cup - $10 million
With a massive jump up to $10 million, enter the FedEx Cup. To stand a chance of winning this super prestigious event you must meet the super stringent entry requirements for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which include being one of the top 125 point leaders across the PGA season. Those 125 players go head to head and the final 30 go through to the last round. The final round is contested after their point’s totals have been reset to pre-determined amounts to give everyone a chance of winning, but the higher chance to the more-deserving players. The 2016 winner and receiver of a massive $10 million cheque was Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy.
