Canadiens retiring Dryden's No. 29

He was the player I looked up to, the player I tried to emulate playing street hockey. I had all his hockey cards, his posters were strewn all over my room. I remember getting his autograph at a local Softball game in the summer back about 25 years ago. They'll be retiring his number tonight. Ken Dryden, Ex-goalie-turned-politician will have his No. 29 raised to the rafters before Monday's game against the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre (CBC, 7:30 p.m. local — ceremony only), will it inspire Montreal hopefully not as I'm a Sens Fan now.

Tiger Wins Again At Torrey Pines

Tiger wins his 5th Buick Invitational really no surprise as no one could really get any momentum. Jeff Quinney had a great front 9 Sunday but faded fast with a double and some other bogeys. CHIII had some birdies down the stretch but it still wasn't enough. Off to Arizona we go.

Rookies Share the Lead

A couple of rookies on the PGA Tour lead after the third round of the Buick Invitational.
Australian rookie Andrew Buckle shot a 4-under 68 with a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole and shares the lead with fellow rookie Brandt Snedeker who is still up there after his Thursday 61. Tiger is still the favorite a 2 shots back after shooting a bogey-free round of 69. We'll see what arises on Sunday.

Charley Hoffman Battles Wind to Win Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

Well I knew he was going to win soon, that's why I had picked him in my Fantasy Leagues. Charley Hoffman battled some tough windy conditions to beat John Rollins in a playoff with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Hoffman's birdie-eagle finish was pretty amazing considering the conditions, a very nice first PGA Tour win. With his first place cheque of $900,000 roughly $215,000 less than his entire earnings for last year. Can you say wow!
Charley received 4,500 FedExCup points for his win. All of a sudden, Hoffman finds himself third on the points list.

Rose Leads after 3 Rounds

Justin Rose leads by 2 shots over Scott Verplank after a 66 at the PGA West Course(Palmer Course). Weather conditions were a bit nippy there as temperatures dipped into the 40s, still not as cold as here, wish I was playing golf. It will be interesting to see who makes a move today and goes low.

Allenby leads after First Round of Bob Hope Classic

Robert Allenby was smokin' hot yesterday en route to a -9 at the La Quinta Golf Course, unfortunately I pulled him from my Fantasy League at the last minute. I did choose Charley Hoffman, a California native but still haven't inserted him in the lineup yet.(He shot a -6 at Bermuda Dunes yesterday). Others I have chosen to have a good week are Jesper, Justin Rose,Phil of course, John Senden, Lucas Glover,Weir and Justin Leonard. I did have Couples in my lineup but he WD at the last moment. My strategy this week is to make sure I know where each player is playing because having 4 courses in the rotation with different course average could make or break the week. The stroke averages are as follows:
  • Classic Club-71.52
  • PGA West(Palmer)- 69.57
  • Bermuda Dunes-69.10
  • La Quinta - 70.93
Jesper Parnevik also has the course record for the Classic Course(62) which the lads play twice if they make the cut on Saturday . We'll see what happens.

Regripping your clubs

During the off season I know myself included, golfers tend to think about regripping there clubs because the old grips are worn, a few new clubs need some better grips or just a change of scenery. Golf Town in Canada always has a great 2 for regripping in the spring which I've used a few times. This year I think I'll do it myself. A great link for starting out is at Golf Works . It goes over what you need and how-to with pictures included. At GolfWRX there even talking about it in a few threads:

Some of us like to get gifts that relate to us. A golfer would definitely love to get a golf gift. A golfer that enjoys his golf games would gladly accept a gift voucher that says discount golf shoes.

New Equipment Deals for some PGA Tour Players

A few Tour players will be sporting new clubs this season. As some club contracts expire, tour players become free agents including David Toms who last week was using TaylorMade clubs instead of his usual Cleveland clubs. Others include D.J. Trahan who will be using WilsonPi5 irons.
Lucas Glover switched to Nike Golf and Bridgestone Golf nabbed Nationwide Tour grad Kevin Stadler.

Hey and it's a Canadian Company too. One of there tour players is Eric Axley who finished 26th this week at the Mercedes Championship.

I haven't had a chance to watch the final round yet on my PVR, but VJ put up some sweet numbers to win his 30th career win at the season opening event in Hawaii. My fantasy picks worked out well as I had VJ, Immelman, Scott who finished 1,2,3. Check out VJs numbers:

J.B. Holmes Playing New Cobra Driver

Talk over at GolfWRX.com has J.B. Holmes using a new Cobra driver this week at the Mercedes Championship and the pics prove it:

Pic from GettyImages.com

Looks like it's a New Speed Pro S. So that means the current crop of Speed drivers will be drastically reduced in price, good for the golfer looking for a driver. Maybe I'll put one in my bag soon. J.B. is 2nd in driving distance after three rounds at 275.2 yds. this week.

It's been great for golf lovers watching all the coverage on the Golf Channel the last few days of the Mercedes-Benz Championship coming from Hawaii. If you can't get out golfing get your fix on the Golf Channel with great coverage from Nick Faldo one of there new announcers, he's always got great insight into the game. Noticed VJ is playing the Hibore XL, looks sweet. JB Holmes' booming drives are amazing also, whoever can tame the windy conditions will prevail. We'll see tomorrow.
