2008 RBC Canadian Open Friday Update

It's been so busy lately, volunteering at my first PGA Tour event has been awesome yet quite exhausting. I've been at it since Tuesday and you could really tell the change once the tournament actually started Thursday. They're trying to get the second round complete this evening but it doesn't look like everyone will finish. So all the morning volunteers will be out there bright and early Saturday morning hoping that it doesn't rain. Enjoy this video of Mike Weir and Fred Couples at the practice area on Wednesday of the 2008 RBC Canadian Open.

Greg Norman Playing Prototype MacGregor VIP Irons

Watching Greg Norman this past weekend at the Open Championship was awesome who would of thought the 53 year old two time Open Champion would actually content come Sunday. His hopes were dashed out of the gate as he bogey the first three holes. He was still in it after the first nine holes but Padraig amazing back nine sealed the deal. Norman doesn't golf alot lately and his passion for business has lead him to being the chairman of the MacGregor Golf Company. They certainly got alot of exposure this past weekend as well as Norman plays mostly MacGregor clubs. Check out the video below of Norman on the 12th hole during the third round. He's playing some sweet
prototype MacGregor VIP irons that he only received two weeks ago. They're diamond-shaped muscle-back design is very awesome looking and should be available to the public soon. We can only wait the video shows them off beautifully.

Padraig Harrington's Amazing Eagle On #17 Keeps Irish Eyes Smiling

Certainly Padraig Harrington approach shot on #17 and subsequent eagle putt is the shot of the 2008 Open Championship pretty great shot from a great champion.

Check out Padraig Harrington's amazing eagle on #17 below. Have also included his birdie on #13 also pretty special.

Padraig Harrington Repeats As Open Champion

Padraig Harrington battled his way to a brilliant 69 today to win the Claret Jug for the second year in a row. The Irishman's 3-over-par 283 total was enough to beat the closest competitor in Ian Poulter by four shots. Paddy's 69 was one of only five sub-par rounds on Sunday. Check out Padraig final putt on #18 as well as the presentation of the Claret Jug.

Wasn't Padraig Harrington Suppose To Be Hurt?

The talk early in the week was that Padriag Harrington had a sore wrist that might prevent him from playing this week a the Open Championship. It definitely kept me away from picking him in my Fantasy Golf Pools as I believed there was a 50/50 chance he wouldn't be able to go. Well after rounds of 74, 68, and 72 he's in the hunt to win his second in a row Claret Jug. Check out his 3rd round highlights here:

Push Away From The Computer Desk

Do you ever wonder why they don't make computer desks and chairs more comfortable. I'm at my desk some days for hours at a time editing various golf videos and making various posts on my blogs. It can make for a few kinks in the back which usually can only be stretched out on the golf course. Being a bit taller it's always hard to find a good combo. My search will ultimately continue.

Greg Norman Leads Open Championship Final Round to Come

The talk after two rounds was when was the Shark coming back to earth. Well he's on top of the leader board after 3 rounds thank you very much. Listening to some commentators like Paul Azinger he seems to think Greg Norman won't be able to finish it off come Sunday. I think it would be great for golf if Norman does come through and I think he can with rounds of 70, 70, 72 I think he has another good round in him. It does also depend on a few others who are close to the Shark. We'll see. Enjoy some highlights form Norman's 3rd Round.

Good Golf Invention Could Relate To Millions

Golf is a sport full of gadgets we have special holders for our drinks, numerous kinds of tees, wrist bands to make us play better, an extreme amount of golf gadgets to help our swing. Just go to any Golf Town next to the ball section and you'll see the gadgets I'm talking about. I've always thought it would be great to think of an idea for a golf product that would take the golf world by storm and make millions of course. I see a way to get people to buy into a small business franchise that sells the products so it would be exposed to the most amount of people. The whole deal is to think of an original idea. Come on creative juices start flowing. Then I could retire and golf full time.

Can Camillo Villegas Win The Open?

Can a guy like Camilo Villegas win the Open Championship? After a 2nd round record round of 65 he'll be in the second group of the day today. He's never won on the PGA Tour could a Major be his first victory. I guess anything is possible but it will be a battle and I doubt he'll be able to post another 65. So hold on Villegas welcome to the weekend at the 2008 Open Championship.

Weir Will Have To Hang On To Stay In Contention

Mike Weir like most golfers at the Open Championship has some ups and downs during his first two rounds. His rounds of 71 and 76 have him at +7 not completely out of it with tough conditions expected this weekend. All Canada will be watching him as he tries to hang on for a good finish. Here's a nice birdie from Mike during the 2nd round.

Weather Down Right Nippy At Open Championship

If your not a regular golf fan and you've happen to tune into the Open Championship the last few days you might be thinking they were playing some place like Iceland or Norway. No it's just the regular weather they get at Royal Birkdale that lovely wind and rain off the Irish Sea. So instead of seeing short sleeve golf shirts, visor and the odd gold chain your seeing toques, rain gear gal our and thermal wear to keep all the golfers dry and warm. Play continues today and scores will likely rise as well.

Sergio Garcia Still In The Hunt After 2nd Day

Sergio Garcia seen by most as the favorite going into this years Open Championship shot a second round 73 with some good things like a 60 ft putt for birdie on the 4th hole some problems at the 10th and 11th hole where he was +3. He's by no means out of it at +5 but he'll have to have a solid weekend to contend. See video below of his putt on #4.

Greg Norman Amazing Through Two Rounds

Greg Norman has been amazing through two rounds of the Open Championship. Everyone is wondering if he'll be able to keep it up through another two rounds to maybe take home his third claret jug. Most hackers out there have played more golf than Norman over the last 3 years with all of his off course ventures but he's been making the shots over the last 2 days. Enjoy these highlights form his 2nd round 70. Highlights include birdie on the 7th. Approach for birdie on 8th. 9th tee shot. 16th amazing bunker shot and even more amazing par putt on #18.

Pet Lovers Unite

Alot of conversations with my kids lately have been about our pets and including them in our little family unit. So in fact we're not a family of 5 we're a family of 7. Don't get me wrong I think it's great because yes they're right Jack and Allie, our two cats are a part of the family. You sometimes might forget Jack and Allie are around but at numerous times of the day they'll do little things to say "hey what's up". Lately my little son who's 5 and a half has really picked up on the antics of the cats. He smiles at them all the time and really tracks their whereabouts.

Recently my wife found a great social network on the web for pet lovers. Zootoo really helped our family with one of cats who was constantly scratching the screen doors of our house. That's what Zootoo is all about networking with other pet lovers who might have had some similar experiences and then with their help you can resolve it. I know I've used it a few times already with some questions my kids have about the cats it's a great resource. I know everyday I have my golf forums that I frequent, now Zootoo has been added to my bookmarks. Check it out today if you love your pets.

Does Adam Scott Have A Shot At Winning Claret Jug

Adam Scott has a less than stellar record at the Open Championship with only one top 10 in 8 appearances. His best finish coming back in 2006 where he tied for 8th. I wonder whether his finger is fully healed or not. We'll wait and see, will he be one of your Fantasy Picks? Not here.
Check out Scott on the 17th hole a par 3 at last week's Scottish Open.

Lee Westwood - Open Championship Contender?

There's been alot of talk this week as to who's going to win this week's Major as Tiger is out. So do any Englishman have a shot? Talk is going around that Lee Westwood has a great shot with his inspired play as of late. Counting his 3rd place in the US Open he's had 8 top tens this year. Not to bad but his record isn't stellar when it comes to the Open Championship where he's had 2 top 10s in 13 appearances. Is he a good Fantasy pick this week, I say yes. Check out his approach shot during the 2nd round from last week's Scottish Open.

Golf Course Conversations

Are you every out on the golf course and you overhear a conversation and you just wish you hadn't. Take for instance the other day I was signing in at my local course when I noticed a bunch of men hanging out around the outside of the clubhouse. I made my way over and noticed a few guys I had played with before as a single. One guy the previous week had kicked my butt all over the course. Well I go in and sign in and come out and over hear this lad and a few of his buddies discussing health care topics ranging from medicare to medigap and various illnesses and treatments they're receiving. I had to just laugh and walk away as I'm a healthy 40 year old guy and these guys could all kick my butt around the course and all they could talk about was health issues. God forbid that ever happens to me, I could use some of there game though.

Els Bunker Shot From The Scottish Open

Ernie Els is in Scotland this week competing in the Scottish Open a nice little tuneup for the Open Championship where he has a great record. He should be one of the favorites going into Royal Birkdale next week. Check out his beautiful bunker shot from the second round of the Barclays Scottish Open.

More Tiger Coming Soon

I've recently switch to a flash drive with more space as I've been recording alot of golf lately and I've needed the extra space. Well I just check my smaller flash drive the other day and discovered some US Open coverage I had taped that was on that drive. So those of you who miss seeing Tiger who's out with his knee injury stay tuned as I'll be releasing a few Tiger videos in the next few days. Stay tuned.

Phil's Hole In One Makes Weekend More Enjoyable

Lots of golfers have headed over to England early to get a few practice rounds in and get the jet lag over with early before the third Major of the year starting in a few days. The Open Championship will be contested at Royal Birkdale in Southport, Lancashire, England. Phil Mickelson came over early and is sharping his game this week a the Scottish Open in Glasgow, Scotland at beautiful Loch Lomond. Phil didn't have a great first round but his 2nd round was alot better with a nice hole in one on the 5th hole at Loch Lomond.

Jim Furyk Driver Swing Slow Motion

With the start of the Canadian Open just a couple of weeks away I thought I'd post a video of Jim Furyk 2 time winner of the Canadian Open and his very unorthodox swing. Works for him. Enjoy. :)

Fantasy Picks For The John Deere Classic

If you look at my picks for this weeks John Deere Classic you'll find that all my picks are in the top 25 in total birdies because you'll have to make lots of birdies to win. Lucas Glover shot 60 in the pro-am Wednesday so hopefully he didn't burn himself out for the week. Could it be a first time winner which has happened quite often in the last 10 years of the John Deere. We'll see so here are my picks this week. good luck everyone.

Kenny Perry
Heath Slocum
Carl Pettersson
Bubba Watson
Tim Clark
Steve Marino
Lucas Glover

Wireless Golf On A XBox

It may be time to upgrade my game console. I've had my Gamecube for awhile now and with all the new game console system out there plus the new games I may be forced. Some systems are just irresistible with crazy low prices to good to be true. Take for instance Buy.com, they have a Microsoft XBox Premium System on for $199.99. Considering these system were going for well over $300 this sale is hard to beat. These systems are reconditioned but that's OK because this XBox 360 is protected by a 60-Day Limited Warranty from the date of purchase. Again these are the Premium Edition of the XBox 360 so you get to play with a wireless controller and headset. Gaming technology is so much better then even a few years. I can now play Tiger Woods golf up to about ten yards away from my TV, and for more than 40 hours! Tell me this wouldn't be great for all those long winters up here in Canada.

The XBox 360 Premium Edition also has a special faceplate that gives your XBOX 360 Premium a unique personal feel. I also love the family settings on the Xbox 360 features so I never have to worry about my children's experiences on the console. Pick one of these up today I'm sure they'll be gone by tomorrow. A sale to good to be passed up.

Bubba Should Be Good Pick For John Deere Classic

Bubba Watson should be a good pick at this week's John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. It's another thin field leading up to next week's Open Championship. He's had a T17 two years ago along with a WD last year. I'm always amazed at the way Bubba works the ball on almost all of his shots. Check out Bubba hooking the ball a good 60 yds. onto the green at #16 at the Buick Open from this year. Good stuff, he didn't make the eagle putt.

Easy Upgrade

One of the easiest upgrade you can do for your PC or laptop is to install more RAM. If your careful installing it it's a snap. Make sure you consult your computer's specs for the right kind because you can run into problems if you don't use the right RAM. One of the best upgrade i did for Toshiba notebook was to put more RAM in it. Doubling my memory to 1 GB made editing my golf videos and compression sound files a snap. Do it know for an easy upgrade.

Craig Perks From Live@ Talks Swing Type

There are so many swing types out there in the world some work for some people not o much for other people. Craig Perks from Live@ talks about the various types, which one are you?

Yearning To Golf

Have you ever had a week where you seem to be so busy with work and then a bunch of stuff around the house that you don't get out on the golf course. Well for me the week has turned into three I haven't been out since June 18th. I guess this is what happens when you have a three kids a wife and lots of things going on. The real good weather here in the Ottawa area is now and I'm tired of fixing kitchen faucets, mowing the lawn, tending to the garden, and doing laundry. Dammit I just want to get out on the golf course.

Anthony Kim Post Round Interview - Comparison To TW and Phil

He has a diamond belt buckle embroidered with his initials "AK" and now has to make room for a second trophy after winning the AT&T National Sunday. Tiger wasn't there but I'm sure he was watching, no doubt impressed with the 23 year old performance over 4 days especially his final round 65 Sunday. He is quite poised on and off the course as illustrated from the video below. Enjoy.

Cold Cervezas, Golf And A Nice View

When a friend who was vacationing in Mexico mentioned he had stayed in the area known as Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Sonora, Mexico I was definitely intrigued by his stories of the beauty of the sand dunes and the majestic beauty of the Sea of Cortez and Sonoran Desert. I had to do a bit more research as to the area for a possible Winter vacation. I found a great place that had some good prices on Rocky Point rentals namely some nice beach front condos that looked amazing especially when we're here in Canada freezing our you know whats off in the Winter. I could definitely see myself drinking a few Cervezas looking out at the view from one of those condos. I could also handle a round at Las Palomas Golf Resort that would top of a vacation to this part of Mexico for sure.

Anthony Kim Wins AT&T National 2008 Highlights

Two wins in one PGA Tour season is pretty impressive. If it's done by a 23 year old even more impressive. That's what Anthony Kim did on Sunday. He surged ahead of the leaders with an impressive bogey free round of 65 and managed it quite nicely. Kim became the first American under 25 to win twice in one year on the PGA TOUR since Tiger Woods. Here go the Tiger Woods comparisons (not here though). Nice win Anthony.

Tiger Woods Talks Post Surgery About Healing, Practicing Again And His Daughter

Tiger Woods talked today with Nick Faldo about his recovery post surgery. He talks about being laid up and not being so mobile since the surgery. He said he's use to being able to get up and go anywhere now it's just a chore to move from bed to couch. One positive he says he now gets to spend lots of time with his daughter. If you missed it here it is.

Anthony Kim #16 Round 3 AT&T National 2008

Youthful exuberance that's what you can call it. Anthony Kim is a breath of fresh air when it comes to professional golf. You can see by the video below he's just a big kid having fun. He shows how he feels. It might come off as being a little brash or arrogant but that's ok because he's AK. Check out his drive and subsequent approach shot from the 3rd round of the AT&T National 2008.

Better Headset For Listening To My Golf Videos

My Logitech headset finally bit the bullet the other day. I'd had the headset for about 5 years so it didn't owe me anything. I used it almost everyday listening to various golf videos while editing them to using them them to chat to other bloggers and clients as well. So now I'm scrambling to find a new headset at a decent price.

I've got it narrowed down to a few choices but it looks like I'm going to stick with Logitech because I've always been happy with their products. If I've had any problems they always stepped up with great customer service.

Right now Buy.com has another great sale and it just so happens they have a sweet LogitechClearChat Pro USB Headset on for $24.50 after a $10 rebate. These are definitely a step up from my 5 year old Logitech headset. I like the fact you can connect them through UBS as the enhance digital USB audio will be great while I'm editing my golf videos and any music I'm editing or listening too. It also has what's called a rotating, noise-canceling microphone which helps reduce background chatter when talking to others. An easy to use volume and mute controls directly on the headset makes it simple to adjust the volume. Wow headsets have come a long way in the last 5 years check it out at Buy.com.

Hunter Mahan Outspoken Golfer

In this month's Golf magazine there's an interesting interview of Hunter Mahan. He talks about the future of American golf, the Tour, the Presidents' Cup and more. With quotes like "The Tour doesn't do American Players many favors" and "I don't understand why chasing Tiger is such a big deal." It's definitely a good read.

Check out Hunter from the first round of the AT&T National where he birdies #16.

Drug Test- Postive or Negative For PGA Tour?

So now with actual drug testing on the PGA Tour and European Tour how long will it be before someone tests positive for a banned substance. Many out there seem to think it will never happen that players are too cautious and know what is ok and what isn't and that alot of the substances on the "list" in fact wouldn't even help a professional golfer. Others think individuals will be caught it's just a matter a time someone will slip up and their blood pressure pills or diet pills or some kind of new supplement will test positive. It will definitely make for more buzz is a positive test ever does come out.

Shotlink For Those Craving Golf Stats

I love stats especially when it deals with golf. I'm always following the progress of my favorite Fantasy golfers during the weekly PGA Tour events. Thank God for those hundreds of volunteers that walk around every tour event with their hand-held Palm devices and laser guns gathering up all the data you could ever want on a player. If you ever wondered how it all works check out this great video it explains it all for those us obsessed with golf stats. It's called Shotlink and it's pretty cool.

Drug Testing Starts On The PGA Tour - Charles Howell III

Well it has officially started drug testing on the PGA TOUR has begun this week at the AT&T National. Take for instance Charles Howell III who was handed a pink slip after his round. Howell was among the first players chosen for testing under the tour's Anti-Doping Program that went into effect this week at the AT&T National. And so it begins I wonder if anyone will test positive?
I'm sure CH III won't he doesn't seem to worried by his comments.

"I hope Gatorade Tiger passes the test," Howell said. "Because I put two bottles in me."

Fantasy Picks For The AT&T National

This will be an interesting tournament as the course the players will be playing Congressional is pretty tough with lots of bunkers and pretty fast greens. It's an older course so it will be pretty to watch. People again that hit lots of fairways and greens will do well. Here's my picks for the week, good luck to everyone in other Fantasy Leagues.

Jim Furyk
Brandt Snedeker
Mathew Goggin
Stuart Appleby
Robert Allenby
Mike Weir
Hunter Mahan

Data Travelers For My Golf Videos

As someone who uses multiple computers during my days as a blogger. I've always found small little flash drives as being one of the most helpful peripheral tools I use during my hours on my computers. They're nice and small can easily fit in my pocket and they can hold lots of data. I post a lot of videos from various golf tournaments here on my blog and some video files can get pretty large in size. Take for instance last week recording some of the Live@ coverage from the Buick Open. Pretty large video files as it was good quality video. Not a problem as I had my trusty Kingston 8GB DataTraveler Flash Drive.

Now with the Fourth of July a day away Buy.com again has a great sale that has me thinking of some great gifts for my American blogger friends. Right now they have a great deal on a two pack of 2GB Kingston DataTraveler 100 Patriotic Edition Flash drives. These things are sweet check out the photo above. What better way to show your patriotism with some blue and red flash drives from Kingston. These are very similar to the ones I own with a nice capless and sleek design so sometimes you forget your carrying one. You just use the easy thumb-action slider to connect to your USB connector on your computer and let the data storage flow. This DataTraveler Patriotic Edition twin pack100 at $16.96 is another great deal from Buy.com.

Jim Furyk Searching For The Right Putter

Jim Furyk is the top player at this weeks AT&T National now that Tiger is on the shelf. He has a very good history at Congressional with a T-5 in the 1997 U.S. Open, a T-37 at the Booz Allen Classic and a T-3 last year at the AT&T National. So his first win of the year could be this weekend. Furyk hasn't played all that great since his seventh place at the Wachovia, but the weaker field this week might help, we'll wait and see I know he'll be one of my Fantasy picks.

He's struggling with the putter and has played a few different models as of late. I noticed last week watching Live@ coverage that he was playing what looked like a Scotty Cameron Del Mar 3.5 putter but after posting the picture below forum members over at GolfWRX think it's a Bettinardi.

Woody Austin Up To His Old Self

and 18Woody Austin was in the hunt again this past weekend at the Buick Open but bogeys on the 17thth holes sealed his fate and he had to settle for 2nd place. Woody is one interesting golfer to watch. He's good entertainment, sometimes like a train wreck you can't help but watch. You definitely know what Woody is feeling. This guy is now 27th in the FedEx Cup race and has compiled 3 top tens this year. Here's some good Woody and some bad Woody, enjoy.

Happy Canada Day

Day Hopefully wherever you are get out and enjoy Canada Day. I know I'll be heading to some fireworks later tonight with the family after work. I know lots of people will be taking in the Canada Day Festivities in downtown Ottawa. I'm sure others will be out on their favorite course hitting some shots and having a few cold ones. Enjoy the day everyone.
