DeChambeau Uses Bridgestone Tour B330-S Golf Ball to Win Web.Com Tour Finals,
Earn 2017 PGA Tour Card
(COVINGTON, GA) – Bryson DeChambeau used the Bridgestone 2016 Tour B330-S golf ball en route to a dramatic playoff win at the DAP Championship, the first leg of the Web.com Tour Finals contested last week at Canterbury Golf Club outside Cleveland, Ohio.
The 22-year-old, who burst on the scene as the low scoring amateur at the 2016 Masters Tournament, beat Andres Gonzales on the second playoff hole to earn his PGA Tour card for fully exempt status in 2017.
Relying on the B330-S to cut through almost four inches of rain and 25 mph winds, DeChambeau produced longer drives and better greenside spin in part due to the Bridgestone ball’s proprietary Tour Core and SlipRes Cover technologies.
“With the adverse weather conditions we faced, the Bridgestone ball was a huge competitive advantage because it allowed me to maintain precise distance and spin control,” says DeChambeau. “Bridgestone is alongside me in the winner’s circle.”
A physics major at Southern Methodist University, DeChambeau is recognized as a “golf scientist.” In addition to unconventionally adjusting each iron to the same shaft length, he tests golf balls by soaking them in Epsom salts to determine centers of gravity. Bridgestone’s 2016 Tour B330-S convincingly ranked first, leading to his decision to play the ball exclusively.
“We are thrilled for Bryson,” says Angel Ilagan, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf. “While rightfully fastidious with equipment, his confidence is sky high because he trusts Bridgestone’s high-performing ball to aid his every shot.”
In 2015, DeChambeau won the NCAA Individual and U.S. Amateur championships, the fifth player to capture both in the same year. Following his 21st-place finish at the 2016 Masters Tournament, he ended 15th at the U.S. Open. DeChambeau was fourth in his PGA Tour debut at the 2016 RBC Heritage.
Introduced in January after four years of research and development, the 2016 Tour B330-S ball is engineered for players with swings speeds above 105 mph. It features a core 6% larger with a steeper gradient in softness from the inner part of the core to the outer region. The compression scale is contained in one layer (other ball brands are in two or three layers) for a smoother energy transfer, more power, faster ball speed and less spin off the driver.
The SlipRes cover produces the highest friction coefficient rating possible to achieve amazing greenside spin without sacrificing performance off the tee or out of the rough. On wedge shots, the ball properly grabs clubhead grooves for more spin on approaches to the green. Conversely, when driving, it reduces spin due to a recoiling force at impact that generates longer distance. The cover’s self-repairing formulation is built for durability and greater resistance to stains and abrasions.
The 2016 Tour B330-S ($45 retail) is complemented by the popular Tour B330 ($45 retail) and the Tour 330-RX/ RX-S ($40 retail) for players with swing speeds less than 105 mph.
DeChambeau’s fellow Bridgestone Tour Staff members include FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympic bronze medalist Matt Kuchar, Masters winner Fred Couples, three-time major champion Nick Price and LPGA Tour stars Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer and Karrie Webb.

Despite the criticism he gets as apparently over-hyped, DeChambeau does seem to thrive on a bit of pressure, doesn't he? This was obviously a vital win for him and his 2017 season. He has also shown that he thrives under the pressure of match play with his amateur wins. Be nice to see him get a first win on the pga now.
