Press Release

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Sea Pines Resort - Hilton Head's most celebrated golf and leisure retreat - announces Atlantic Dunes by Davis Love III opens on Monday, Oct. 3.

The work of Love Golf Design, Atlantic Dunes is a complete reconstruction and recreation of the resort's historic Ocean Course, the first on Hilton Head. Love, the 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain, lead architect Scot Sherman and Mark Love have fashioned entirely rebuilt holes to accommodate modern shot values and frame scenic corridors.

Most notably, Atlantic Dunes now features a pronounced seaside ambience and Lowcountry feel accented by coquina shells and seaside grasses. The project's goal to incorporate elements of the surrounding beachfront along with native pines and oaks lining the fairways has been fully realized with stunning results.

The course benefits both visually and strategically from restoration of natural sand dunes as well as the creation of new dunes blending seamlessly into the design. Tens of thousands of indigenous plants have been installed in these areas to complete the seaside feel.

"Atlantic Dunes will be challenging from the back tees, but with several additional tee boxes the course will be thoroughly enjoyable for players of any and all abilities," says Love. "It is a classic layout that rewards strategic thought and well-executed shots, and misses are not overly penalized."
The playing surface of Atlantic Dunes is a blend of cutting-edge grasses matching the superior strains at the resort's acclaimed Harbour Town Golf Links and Heron Point by Pete Dye. The resort is offering its "Ultimate 54" golf-only package starting at $499 per person through Nov. 6 (Sun. - Wed.) for those desiring to play all three courses.

"Davis and his team have executed an inspiring interpretation of our vision for Atlantic Dunes," says Cary Corbitt, Vice President of Sports and Operations. "From a design and aesthetic standpoint, it is a perfect complement to Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus' work at Harbour Town and Pete Dye's Heron Point. With three championship golf courses, two new clubhouses and the new Beach Club, Sea Pines has cemented its status as a world-class golf destination."
