Growing Up Before My Eyes

With my kids going back to school next week I got to thinking about how much school has really changed and how smart kids are these days with so much being bombarded their way. It sure is different since I was in school and I'm only 40. My kids are really growing up fast right before my eyes. I'm amazed at my soon to be 5 year old daughter playing her video games on our laptop and using our printer to print out Barbie pictures to color all without my help. They're little sponges soaking up everything. I guess as parents we just try to give them a balance and be there for them. Maybe I'll get my oldest one out for a quick nine before school this week. God can it really be school time.

Cedarhurst Golf Course Review -Beaverton, Ontario

Had the pleasure to play Cedarhurst Golf Course back in July on holidays with my father-in-law. I had played here previously with him so most of the holes I remember. Cedarhurst is located near Beaverton, Ontario on the east side of Lake Simcoe. We were camping at a Mara Provincial Park so it was only a short half hour drive to the course. The cost to play Cedarhurst is pretty reasonable at $42 during the week and $49.50 Friday/Sat./Sun./Holidays. My Father-in-law and I even got a better deal with a 2 for 1 w/ cart from SoutherOntarioGolfer.com. So it was $75 for the two of us with cart plus tax. Pretty good deal so close to TO.

Just a few cedars beware of poison ivy

Lots of wildlife can be seen at Cedarhurst including rabbits and wild turkeys

Nice

Cedarhurst big claim is that it's a Stanley Thompson designed course (9 holes I believe) and it is but it was also designed by Bert Turcotte as well. Cedarhurst roots started back in 1922 and is aptly named as there are alot of trees and most holes will get you into trouble if you spray your ball. So be warned. We played it from the white tees which comes in at 5767 yards and a Par 70. You'll definitely recognize the older holes at Cedarhurst as the greens tend to be smaller and the fairways fairly uneven. The day we play during a bit of rain the greens were fairly adequate although some had been recently punched which made reading putts difficult (the machine used made long lines across the greens). One of the hardest holes at Cedarhurt is #3 a long par three at 238yds. It's straight away but the green is long and narrow so depending on where the pin is good luck with this hole.

One thing I liked about Cedarhurst is playing from the whites gave you a chance for a few birdies like the short par 5 4th and the short par4s, 7 and 9 which if you get a hold of a good drive you'll only have a half wedge in. These type of holes can be fun. On the back nine there's a few doglegs to test your iron play including #10 which plays even tougher if your drive doesn't get far enough into the bend of the dogleg good luck with your second shot because it will probably be a longer iron into this green.

Cedarhurst has a great little clubhouse we ended up having a few coffees and a danish when the rain came down harder at the turn. Cedarhurst is a nice little golf course if you keep it in the fairway you should be ok but with the many cedar trees, water and bunkers placed around the course if your a little wayward it could be a long day. the day we played it was pretty rainy but Cedarhurst seems to drain pretty good. The fairways were in nice shape definitely recommend if your in the area.

Clean Floors=More Golf

I may of just found the perfect gift on sale no less for myself and all golf lovers out there and it has nothing to do with golf. I was looking through Buy.com's weekly deals like I always do and I saw this blue round device that turned out to be an iRobot that will clean your floors. Yes I know it's crazy but this little contraption pictured below will clean your floors. Whether they're sealed hardwood, tile, or linoleum this floor washing robot will clean 4 average size rooms on one single charge.

Now how do you figure this will help me and other golf lovers out there. Well with this floor washing robot at $149.99 a savings of $250 from it's listed price not only a great deal but your chores including floor washing will be cut to nil as your robot takes over the floor cleaning duties and you hit the links for more golf. It's a no brainer and one that I have no problem with paying the Buy.com price of $149.99. The iRobot 5999 Scooba Floor Washing Robotic Hard Surface Cleaner should be on ever golfers list this Fall so you can get out there and golf more while still getting your floors cleaned.

Mike Weir Shoots 61 Only 21 Putts W/ Video

What can you say Mike Weir took only 21 putts and came out with the lead after shooting a blistering 61 after 1 putting the last nine holes. Can you say lights out. One round does not win a tournament but Weir has set the pace. I'm rethinking that I should of picked him this week for my Fantasy picks.

Playoff Beard Worked For Weir Week 1

How about for week two will he shave it off as he was quoted to say after this week's inaugural Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge at Turning Stone Resort's Atunyote Golf Club in which he didn't win one skin. I guess it's starting to itch so will we see it at this week's Deutsche Bank Championship after lasts week T7 I bet it's still there. Enjoy the rather funny video Weir did with hockey legend Wayne Gretzky for the FedEx Cup Championship this year.

Please Don't Steal My Scotty

How often when your golfing whether it's at the start of the round or during the turn do you take one of your clubs probably your putter or driver and bring it with you into the clubhouse just because you don't want it to go missing. I've done this numerous times especially at a course I'm new to playing. Is it paranoia or am I being smart if your a member at a course no worries there but I've heard way to many stories of clubs going missing out of golfers bags at courses. Golf is suppose to be a game of integrity how could something like this happen. Do we really have to put a heavy duty Schlage lock around peoples golf bags while they're getting a pint or a pee in the clubhouse. Maybe?

Darren Clarke Wins KLM Open Closer To Ryder Cup

Nice to see one of my favorite players rounding into form again with a win at the KLM Open. Darren Clarke looked great over 4 rounds to win by 4 shots over Paul McGinley, Henrik Stenson was one further back as well. Clarke's solid ball striking got him great looks at birdies which he made for his second win of the year. In my mind he's a definite pick for the Ryder Cup. There's no one hotter than Darren right now. That's what you want on your team heading into the Ryder Cup. Check out the highlights form his 4th round and his celebration with his two sons.

Back Pain Not From Golf

Well it's hard to believe it but I've hurt my back and no it's not from golfing to much (I wish). I've been off doing the vacation thing with the family and while camping I bent down to pick up my little son in his portable crib and bam I tweaked a muscle in my lower back. There was no heavy crib bedding or heavy toys in his crib he's just a big 7 month old and I've got a 40 year old back. Not a great combo, hopefully it will heal so I can get back out there just when I was starting to see some resemblance of a golf game.

Weir Falls Short At Barclays

His round started off well but Mike Weir faltered a bit down the stretch and had to settle for a T7 at the Barclays this past weekend. Check out some highlights form his 4th round including some a nice wedge shot, a pretty bunker shot and a few other nice shots rolled in for good measure. Good luck again this week Weirsy.

Sergio Garcia In The Hunt At Barclays

Nice to see Sergio Garcia in the hunt at the first event of the FedEx Cup. Check out his driver swing can you say sweet! He's one of my Fantasy picks this week so go Sergio.

Weir Sporting The Hockey Playoff Beard

Good to see Mike Weir sporting a Playoff beard with the first event of the FedEx Playoffs on this week. I'm pretty sure most in Canada now of this practice. Hopefully it works for Weirsy as he's tied for second going into the final round.

"After the PGA I had a family vacation, my kids and I and some friends. We went down to a lake in southern Utah and just didn't have a razor," 2003 Masters champion Weir told reporters.

"I got home and thought, you know what, it's the playoffs. I guess the old hockey player in me thought we'll keep it out there," he said about the grizzled look favored by some hockey players heading into the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Shopping This September

With everyone out there buying things for their kids for back to school I was thinking I was in need of a new pair of shoes this September as well can't leave the Dad without a good pair of shoes. I've got it narrowed down to a few but I really like the boots UGG Australia are putting out these days especially the Haskell model. I've always like his style of boot so now I just have to find someone in Canada who has these types of Australian boots.

How To Hit A High Golf Shot And A Low Golf Shot

Peter Kostis tells you how to hit a high golf shot and a low golf shot. I love his simplicity when it comes to the game of golf and always look forward to his insight on CBS. Enjoy the video.

Video Editing With My New LCD

Well I finally think I'm going to get into the world of owning a LCD monitor. For many years I've done most of my Blog work on my trusty Toshiba Notebook. But recently I've put together a pretty good PC but I';m just missing a nice monitor. I do alot of video editing so I was looking at a larger screen monitor but one that could still be put on our computer desk. I really was getting sick of using an inferior monitor while editing golf videos. I wanted to see crisp and .com made it real clear shoots both from the fairway and from the greens but sometimes that wasn't all that great with what I was using.

Buy.com made it real easy to pick up a LCD monitor for my video editing. They have a sale on right now where you can pick up a Samsung 21.6" Widescreen LCD Monitor for a mere $234.99. This is basically what I was looking for it's DVI compatible and a nice glossy black finish to go with the new PC I built. Plus it has Fast 2 ms Gray to Gray response for sharp motion graphics great for my golf video editing. Everything I was looking for thanks again Buy.com.

Check out Padraig Harrington's new FedEx Cup commercial. Will he win the Cup this year he has to be a favorite after winning two Majors this year.

Golf Job Maybe?

You ever get so feed up with your job that for one whole day you look at all those job sites looking for a "new" job. That perfect job that will get you out of that sometimes perpetual down slide that some careers can have on a person. I know most start with Google and begin to type in New York jobs or Chicago employment or Boston resumes. Whatever it is we're just looking for an out sometimes. I know I have on a few occasions looked extensively for a job geared around my two loves golf and the Internet. I'm still searching good luck to you.

SlingBox Some Golf

I'm very big on recording TV on PC and through my PVR that's hooked up to my TV. I use alot of the golf coverage right here on my blog for those that might of missed they can check it out all right here or on YouTube where I also post them. I've always heard of the device called a SlingBox but mainly thought it wouldn't benefit me. Now I'm thinking maybe a SlingBox SOLO is the way to go.

With a SlingBox SOLO I can watch and control all the golf I could possible want all from my favorite golf stations anywhere in the world using my laptop or mobile phone. Tell me that's not a great use of technology. So if it's on my PVR , digital cable, satellite receiver, or DVD player. So if it's on my TV it can be on my computer or phone with no monthly fees. With the Slingbox SOLO, I can watch golf whenever I want which is great for my lifestyle.

Right now Buy.com has a great sale and as far as I can tell the cheapest SlingBox SOLO on for a mere $124.95. Buy.com is really making this easy for me to purchase especially with September around the corner and all the new shows starting their seasons again. I'm even thinking of buying two and giving one as a gift. We'll see.

Better Golf Weather Around The Corner

How many of you out there were wishing you were booking a vacation at one of the many Las Vegas hotels or anywhere hotter than here in Eastern Ontario lately. When we were getting all the rain throughout the summer and getting your tee time rained out was a common occurrence every week were you not just a little depressed. Well it looks like the weather has hopefully taken a turn for the better as hot humid temperatures are forecasted for most of next week so get out there on the golf courses.

Carl Pettersson Continues To Lead Wyndham

Carl Pettersson couldn't follow up his amazing 61 Friday but a 66 does have him in the lead by two over Scott McCarron. He was one of my fantasy picks this week so let's see what he can do Sunday with approach shot like he had today on #5 the Wyndham Championship should be his. Enjoy the video.

Reviews To Help You Out

I love the Internet for the one fact that if your thinking of buying something you can find many reviews for that one product online. I do it alot for golf clubs especially when I see a few good deals online. There are so many golf club reviews when you search Google it makes it a snap when your trying to figure out which club to buy next. This can be done for so many things including reviews for portable music players, diet pill review, organic food reviews and just about any sort of toy for your kids. Stay informed that's what I say.

Scotty Cameron Headcover For PGA Championship Is Sweet

Scotty Cameron always comes out with a new headcover every time there's a Major and he certainly hasn't disappointed with a beauty.

Baby, you can drive my car! A lifelong fan of red racecars and vintage speedsters, Scotty was inspired by the location of the season's final major in the Detroit suburbs when he created the 2008 Motor City Championship headcover. Sporting the number 62, our free-flowing Red Racer revs it up for one of the year's most anticipated headcovers.

It's already sold out in the store so you'll have to check out eBay.

Rain Delays PGA Championship

Plasma TV. So I head over with some Corona and limes and of all the bad luck the So my buddy invites me over to his place to watch some of the PGA Championship on his new HD TV but the PGA Championship was in a weather delay. Of all the bad luck and play didn't start back up til 7pm. At least we had some beers and we got his tv mount installed. We can only hope for no more rain delays.

Darren Clarke & Retief Goosen Two Solid Picks For PGA Championship

Retief Goosen and Darren Clarke should be two solid picks this week for the PGA Championship. Having had both a good week last week should carry some momentum into this week's tough challenge in Michigan. Enjoy below a video of Darren Clarke and Retief Goosen teeing off last week on #1 during the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Obsessed With Length In Golf

It's hard not to be obsessed with length when it comes to golf. All the young guys coming up through the ranks on the Pro Tours can all hit over 300 yards. All the marketing for all the new drivers is always based around the so and so company's driver absolutely killing the ball adding so many yards to your drives. Well I was recently playing my local course and a friend and I were just out to play a late evening 9 holes. My friends game was a bit rusty and I noticed a twosome behind us so on the next hole a a 352 yd dogleg right hole we let them play through. The two lads looked like they were from an acne treatment ad (ie young). They hit there shots and waved as they passed us on the way to find their balls. Well one guy hit in the rough long about 280 or so and had a awkward second I don't think the other guy even could find his ball which also went long and right. I ended getting up and down with a bogey. I guess sometimes short is ok, right!

Miguel Angel Jimenez Cool Cigar Holder

He's from Spain he's got an unorthodox swing but dammit Miguel Angel Jimenez is one of the coolest pro golfers out there with his long hair and his ever present cigar. Check out Miguel Angel Jimenez cool cigar holder from last Sunday at the 2008 WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Will he have a good finish this week at the PGA Championship. We'll see. :)

Golf Gadget Idea?

I was recently at the Canadian Open outside of Toronto in beautiful Oakville and one of my many observations of Tour players while marshaling the 12th hole was that alot used some sort of aid while practicing on the driving range especially as well on the putting green. Golf is one of those gadget sports where you see alot of helpful aids out there for your swing whether it's too do with alignment, swing plane or whatever it seems like someone invented a gadget to help out the golf obsessed. So maybe my idea of ellipticals specifically for golf might make a go of it. At least it would be better than regular work.
