Asher Golf Gloves A Unique Fit

If you haven't heard of the Asher Golf Company James Roundy and Samson Lloyd are working on it. They've developed some golf gloves with a very unique style. With names like the Birdy, Camo, Death Grip and Eye Candy.  These gloves are like no other glove I've seen before. At the 2010 PGA Merchandise Show this week how could you not notice the Asher gloves. With all the coverage that's been going on at the show these gloves definitely stand out from other peoples products. Asher was officially launching them at the show and I think their exposure will only heighten.

Happy Birthday Gus!

Today is my sons birthday. He's two and for those that have a two year old you know when I say, life with a two year old can be very crazy. One minute he does something real cute and you want to eat him up the next well lets just say you have feelings of throwing him out the door. Of course I never would do something crazy like that because that's whats parenting is all about the highs and the lows. Good thing I have some prior experience with my two daughters before Gus came along.

My son really loves tractors pretty much any kind of tractor heck anything with wheels he loves pretty much. You'd think me loving golf and all I'd be getting him kids clubs of all sorts. Well he does have some plastic ones which he loves but he is only 2 right. No I'm one of those weird fathers when out shopping the other day I don't pick him up the proverbial toy I pick him up some cool clothes. A shirt with a digger on the front and some pants with a truck on them.

When your the Dad of a two year old you really only have to worry about there well being and love them to death. No worries about what there car insurance will be in 14 years or girls calling at all hours of the night or any of those things that are distracting in the teen age years. That's why I just enjoy the present. I can't wait to get home and see my little guy and give him a big hug. :)

Is Daly Calling It Quits?

Is John Daly going to call it quits? After a second round 71 and failing to make the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. Daly has an impromptu interview with the Golf Channel. "I'm done, I can't compete. I can't play like I use too. I can't keep taking spots from guys out here playing this bad. It's not worth it. "I'm tired of embarrassing myself in front of (my fans). I can't do it anymore."

From his tweets on Twitter @PGA_JohnDaly maybe Daly just needs a break it look like his financial situation is really putting his game off with his mind focusing on those troubles.

From Twitter:

...never said retirement in anything or twitter-i want to correct that! simply sayin I need my time & working through these bad times thank you.

...to be on the tour. My game has never been the same since my rib injury during the Honda Classic in 2007. God Bless! JD

I don't like to continue to embarass myself-- maybe my mind may change down the road but right now i don't have the money

....the few sponsors that I have are great but it's not getting me thru these times--i want to thank my fans throughout all these years &

To ALL my Fans---my financial situation is putting me where I cannot focus on my game, I'm putting too much pressure on myself,

Daly just needs some time no worries he'll be back he won't be doing commercials for side effects of hydroxycut yet.

Another Great Field At Qatar Masters

This weeks European Tour is in Qatar for the Commercialbank Qatar Masters. Can Martin Kaymer win back to back? Can Ian Poulter get a victory this week or maybe European Number One Lee Westwood can straighten out his iron problem for a win. With five of the world’s top ten and nine of the top 19 teeing off in Doha this week again will be great to watch.

Farmers Insurance Invitational Fantasy Golf Picks

This week we have the Farmers Insurance Invitational from lovely La Jolla, California. Home of Torrey Pines North and South Course. I've been getting familiar this week with Torrey Pines as it's now available to play online as part of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online Beta. This course will play a lot tougher than the game. Having a great short game and being able to get up and down for par with be key. So good scramblers need only apply. Also if your from the area you get bonus points as well. So here's my picks.

Phil Mickelson - Opens up his season look for him to carry on his winning ways from the end of last year.

Charles Howell III - Has been playing well as of late. Has cashed a pay cheque the last 7 years.

Ryan Moore- Good scrambler has been on fire since he signed with Scratch. Doesn't have a great record here but who cares. His scoring average is great.

Luke Donald - His kind of course just check his record here enough said.

Robert Allenby - Tough to see him lose at the Sony but he'll win eventually could be this week.

Bubba Watson- Didn't win last week but is killing the ball and has cashed cheques ever time he's played here. Maybe a winners cheque is in order.

Charley Hoffman- California kid that loves playing the West Coast. Big hitter will benefit here at Torrey.

Oh ya by the way this is the former San Diego Open/ Buick Invitational for those that don't know or who have had a cholesterol treatment lately or some other treatment that has rendered them silly.

McIlroy, Poulter, Kaymer Who will win Abu Dhabi?

So who will win tomorrow's Abu Dhabi Golf Championship? Lots of big names at or near the top. Rory McIlory, Ian Poulter or maybe Martin Kaymer.

A European Tour Daly?

I tend to watch a lot of European Tour golf firstly its great golf with more and more players getting into the top of the World Rankings. Another reason is  because I can usually always watch it online and  another reason is I love the announcers and their comments they're always very witty and full of knowledge.

I was thinking the other day what player if any would be comparable to John Daly on the PGA Tour. You know a guy that doesn't like flying prefers his motorhome for getting around. Has won a few Majors and has had a few to many divorces. A couple of brushes with the law as well. Oh ya I forgot to mention the extreme weight loss and bright golf attire as well. If there is any I'm not sure I know of any. Any ideas out there folks?
I guess with so much media following Daly lately and his new show to come in March I just was thinking if there might be someone on the big tour in Europe.

Top Golfers Teeing It Up At Abu Dhabi Abu Championship

Eight of the Top 14 players in the World Ranking are teeing it up in the United Arab Emirates at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. There are 4 major champions (Todd Hamilton, Geoff Ogilvy, Paul Lawrie and Michael Campbell) as well as 89 total European Tour wins represented by the golfers taking part this week. Pretty damn good field just about any week. Guys are pissed off on the PGA Tour that guys got releases from the PGA Tour to play in this event and pick up appearance fees. Some players felt they should be playing in this weeks Bob Hope Classic. I don't have  aproblem with it, it's not like these players are making commercials for best wrinkle creams. They're free agents and can go play anywhere, PGA Tour okay'd it. Enough said here's Sergio, McIlroy and Poulter. Enjoy!

Brian Gay To Play And Endorse Bettinardi Putters

If you happen to cruise on over to the Bettinardi Putter website you'll notice a smiling Brain Gay and from this press release you'll know why. Their new line definitely looks amazing and is on my list to try this year.

PGA's Top Ranked Putter Will Attend 57TH PGA MERCHANDISE SHOW

Tinley Park, IL, January 20, 2010 - Bettinardi Golf, maker of the highest quality milled putters in the world, has signed PGA Tour player Brian Gay to an endorsement deal.

Gay, who has played Bettinardi products for years and has used a Bettinardi putter for his three PGA Tour wins, will bring into play the Bettinardi BB8 Tour prototype putter in 2010.

"Brian epitomizes what Bettinardi stands for, consistency and craftsmanship around the greens," stated Bob Bettinardi. "His enviable putting touch has helped ignite his career, particularly in the last few years."

Gay finished the 2009 season ranked #4 in 2009 PGA Tour Putts Per Round with an average of 28.11 and recently posted his best position on the year-end 2009 money list (13th).

Gay will represent the Bettinardi brand at the 57th PGA Merchandise Show appearing at the Bettinardi Golf Booth # 901, Friday, January 29, 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. He will sign autographs and provide putting tips and insights to show visitors.

Gay, among the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings, has earned entry to all four majors in 2010: The Masters, The U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship based on his 2009 performance.

Gay joined the PGA Tour in 1999. His consistency has earned him over $11million to date in career earnings. His first win on tour came at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun in 2008, while his second win was at the Verizon Heritage in 2009. His third victory, the 2009 St. Jude Classic, earned him the last spot in the 2009 U.S. Open, using the "Winners of multiple PGA Tour events since the last Open" exemption.

An All-America at the University of Florida, Gay led the Gators to two SEC titles and the 1993 National Championship.

John Daly Rocks The Tiger Print Jacket On Versus

John Daly isn't in this weeks field at the Bob Hope Classic but I'm sure he wishes he was swinging his Ping golf clubs instead of doing other things. Although a few days ago he made an appearance on the Versus TV Show "Sports Soup" and from seeing the below preview video I can definitely see John doing this kind of stuff full time he's got a flare for it for sure. If the golf thing doesn't work out he won't have to do cheesy commercials for natural diet pills, this kind of stuff works for Daly.

He even took a poke a Tiger Woods and his transgressions.

"I wish [Tiger] well. Whatever he does off the course is nobody's business but his ... Elin's, hers (Jamie Grubbs), hers (Holly Sampson), hers (Joslyn James), hers (Mindy Lawton) ... alright, alright, you get the idea."

Ryan Moore On Making the Turn with Peter Kessler

A great little interview by Peter Kessler. Ryan Moore chats with him on his show "Making The Turn" on PGA Tour Radio Sirius/XM.

Moore talks a lot about his career and his new partnership with Scratch Golf. Some great stuff you can see why Ryan is making a lot of fans as he seems to be a real personable guy and he loves his Scratch clubs.

Mike Weir Trades For Canadian Cameron Convention "Mountie" head cover

Ever so often you come across a story like this one perusing the many gl fforums I frequent and you just kind of shake your head and say "that's f#+**$ cool!"

So a moderator over at Cameron Collector has apparently been trying to trade a Canadian Cameron Convention "Mountie" head cover for Mike Weir's gamed one ( a one of a kind maple leaf head cover).
Apparently he wanted to give the head cover to one of the lads on the forum that heads up the Canadian Cameron Convention and would pretty much wet himself if he got Weirsy head cover.

Well if you head on over to Cameron Collector:
http://www.cameroncollector.com/forum/index.php/topic,121652.0.html

He pulled it off at this weeks Bob Hope Classic and here's the pictures to go along with the story. Now I wish The Golf Channel would carry stories like this one instead of those crazy infomercials about diet supplements. Now I just have to get some video of the new head cover in Mike's bag at this week's Hope.

Sneak Peak - Being John Daly - Tune In March 2nd

John Daly seems to be everywhere he's hosting  "SPORTS SOUP" on Versus tonight at 10pm EST and 1am if your up late! He played in Hawaii at last weeks Sony Open. Two rounds over par at the Sony (73-71) not bad but it didn't make the cut. He was pissed off he didn't get a sponsor exemption to this weeks tournament, the Bob Hope. Daly is synonymous with celebrities which is what the Hope is all about I'm sure he'd love to be playing this week. He is after all try to resurrect his game. He'll have to wait til San Diego though. I'm a little scared I'm going to see him in some ad for acne treatment gel or something along those lines. So far so good.

He has entered the world of reality TV which seems like a perfect fit for him and his new lifestyle. The Golf Channel will start to air "Being John Daly" come March 2nd. Will you be tuning in. Here's a sneak peak.

Scratch Golf Two Thumbs Up So Far - Antique Finish is Sick!

So I've started the process of ordering some Scratch wedges (53 and 58 degree- 8620s) and so far Ari and Jon from Scratch Golf have been nothing but the best as far as answering all my many questions. So thanks.
A few more thoughts: the antique finish Scratch has is sick!

Good luck to Ryan Moore this week at the Bob Hope tournament.

Check out the McKennon Golf Bag Company

It's amazing even with Winter in full swing here in the Ottawa area I'm still able to get my golf fix even if it's not swinging a club. Take for instance I'm out pricing some custom blinds for my kitchen with my wife and I get a email from a guy that's just launched his website. He sells handmade leather golf bags, definitively peaks my interest especially because these are like no other bags I've seen before. A single strap, no stand, two zippers and guaranteed for life. That is it. The leather looks amazing these aren't like your modern golf bags. He's taken the complication out and put an experience in. Please check out Mike's site, the McKennon Golf Bag Company. He's located just outside of Portland, Oregon.

Golfers Giving Back

For me golfers seem to be some of the most generous people out there. With everything going on in Haiti Mike from PutterTalk.com though it would be cool to generate some much need help for the Haitian country and started a Putter raffle for a beautiful Byron putter. I know a lot of people have donated $$$ already but an extra $20 will help out Haiti and you might win a putter.

Another charitable campaign has also started called the DriveHard Campaign and it's trying to raise funds for Alzeheimers. The DRIVEHARD Campaign plans to raise much needed funds and awareness for the fight against Alzheimer's.

Here's what they're doing: we are selling and distributing DRIVEHARD wristbands.  The dimpled wristband design replicates the dimples found on a golf ball; it's not only a stylish design, but wearing one will go a long way towards creating the much needed funds and awareness for Alzheimer's.  More information about this campaign can be found online at: www.drivehard.org

Is Rickie a good bet to win this week who knows the potential is there but he lacks experience playing on the course in Hawaii I'm sure he'll make up for it in effort.

Charles Barkley SNL Haney Project Spoof Not Bad

Charles Barkley hosting Saturday Day Nigh Live after 16 years is this the seventh sign of the Apocalypse or what. I remember watching Barkley play basketball years ago and I don't remember when he last hosted SNL but good for him At least there was a skit with Barkley doing his bit for spoof of  The Golf Channel classic "The Haney Project" that was pretty damn funny. If you can't laugh at yourself then what's the point of breaking a smile and Barkley's swing will definitely make you shake your head and possibly cringe a bit as well.I 'm glad my buddy phoned me on his unlocked phone to tell me he would be on so I could set the PVR. Nothing like seeing a god awful swing that's worse than my own.

Puma Golf No Longer Sponsoring Geoff Ogilvy - Switches From Cobra To Titleist

This is the time of year with the start of the PGA Tour season that most players are testing out new equipment. Some guys like Geoff Ogilvy have switched manufacturers. Although Titleist and Cobra are both owned by Acushnet it is still considered a switch. Other guys I'm sure are maybe still looking at their options.

2009 Australian PGA Championship - Day 1

I was also surprised by some more news about Geoff Ogilvy after reading an article by Doug Ferguson, AP Golf Writer on Yahoo.com where he mentions "Ogilvy said he was not able to renew his deal with Puma". I spoke to my contact at Puma (Director of Marketing -Puma North America) and he confirmed that Puma is no longer sponsoring Geoff. Looks like they're putting all their effects into newcomer Rickie Fowler this season. Geoff Ogilvy tees it up this week as the defending champion at the SBS Championship. Rickie Fowler looks like he'll be teeing it up at the 51st Bob Hope Classic January 18-24, 2010.

Fantasy Golf Picks For 2010 SBS Championship

So the winners only tournament the SBS Championship starts this week in Hawaii here's my Fantasy Picks for the week based entirely on some golf stats and some hackers so called knowledge. This is much more fun that installing my Toto sinks in my house today. So here it goes. If you look at the winners of this tournament the names Ogilvy, VJ, Appleby, Els, Garcia, Furyk, TW, Duval and Mickelson all stand out so for picking a winner easily rules more than half of the field. It's going to be a well known possiblity a Major Champion who wins. So here it goes.

Geoff Ogilvy is an obvious pick not only has he won here before he always excels in these type of big name events. He won the 2006 U.S. Open and three Word Golf Championships events and finished in the top 10 in more than 25% of the 211 tournaments he’s played on the PGA Tour.

Retief Goosen can't be overlooked even though he hasn't played in this tournament since 2005. He's had 2 top 10s in 4 appearances plus he's a Major Champion.

Kenny Perry has the most experience of anyone playing this week and that speaks volume to winning this tournament. He's had 2 top 10s in 7 appearances so not to shabby.

Steve Stricker won three times last year if his putter stays hot (1st in Putts in GIR last year) He'll start off the year with a win.

Zach Johnson has one top 10 here and plays well in Hawaii. He could break through this week even though he's not the longest off the tee. He is accurate though and that is a good combo at Kapalua.

Stewart Cink fits the bill he's coming off a Major win from last year and has a good track record with two top 10s in this event.

Which First Timer Has Best Shot At Winning SBS Championship

WGC - HSBC Champions - Round three

There are 7 golfers in this weeks SBS Championship that have never had the opportunity before in the winners only Championship. Who has the best shot of winning out of these golfers.

Y.E. Yang - Winner of Honda Classic and PGA Championship Yang knows what it takes to win big tournaments definitely can win.

Nathan Green - Winner of RBC Canadian Open is probably just happy being in Hawaii I don't see him making any noise this week.

Martin Laird- Winner of Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open like Green is probably just happy being in Hawaii his stats don't spell "Winner".

Ryan Moore- Winner of Wyndham Championship was tied for 8th in Total Driving which will help at Kapalua. His third place finish at the HSBC World Golf Championship has me thinking he can do well at the SBS Championship.

Pat Perez- Winner of Bob Hope Classic ranks 5th in eagles and he'll need lots to contend. I don't see him doing this.

Bo Van Pelt -Winner of  the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee has the best scoring average of the bunch but he'll need more to compete.

Paul Casey - Winner of Shell Houston Open Casey definitely has the game with being 25th in birdie average and T22nd in GIR average but with recent injuries I don't see him contending
