Ben Hogan รก la Wii

What an intriguing scenario. Turn the legendary instruction book, “Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons,” into a Nintendo Wii game. It looks like it's in the works according to Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. This one looks like it could be good, its designers say the game will be "two-thirds trainer and simulator and one-third video game."

I'm afraid my kids will be disappointed. Mario Kart and Just Dance 2 will have to take a backseat when this Wii game is released in December 2011.

Royal Oak-based Pixofactor is creating a new golf video game based on the Ben Hogan classic golf instruction book, "The Five Lessons." Here, golfer Maiya Tanaka of San Diego takes a few swings in a motion capture suit at Davo Studios in Troy. You might see one of these swings on a new golf game for the Wii console due out for Christmas 2011. Michigan's film, movie and video game tax credit is the reason this work happened here.

New R11 Driver TV Spot - Daly Tweets about his new TaylorMade Irons (his babies)

The buzz has been pretty high since word got out on TaylorMade's upcoming white driver release, the R11. Check out this great 30sec commercial from TaylorMade. A little more marketing buzz from TaylorMade.

John Daly is also excited about his new R11 driver. He posted some great pictures. His new TaylorMade  irons are the The Tour Preferred MB, he calls them his babies. Sporting an Arkansas Razorback sweater Daly looked more like a guy going to a tail gate party than a golfer donning his golf shirt and clubs and hitting the links. Stay tuned to Daly's Twitter feed to get his insight into these new release clubs from TaylorMade Golf. Coming to a golf store near you in February.

Step Up For Stephanie

Christmas came early for Barrie native, Stephanie Sherlock this past Sunday.  Stephanie fired an even-par 72 in harsh conditions during the final round of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament in Florida. Now she has her LPGA card for the 2011 season. She will probably see about 12 or so events next season. Of course just because she's on the big tour doesn't mean she making the big $$$$ yet.

“I’m looking for sponsors for the upcoming season,” Sherlock said. “Especially with my first full pro year, I’m going to need a lot of financial help.”

Ok lets step up! Scott McLeod from Flagstick and I had some banter on Twitter about Sherlock and golf in Canada. He made some great points:

Supporting players at AM level is 1 thing but if Canada wants to compete in pro golf they need to support the emerging pros. A card is one thing but the freedom to play without financial burden is a whole other thing.

So let's get the word out that Stephanie needs some sponsorship to help her out during her 2011 LPGA season. Step Up for Stephanie and lets get her some sponsorship so she can concentrate on golf when she steps to the first tee next LPGA season!

Peter Robinson catches up with Stephanie Sherlock at a local CN Womens Tour event at Blue Springs GC.

Fairway & Greene Apparel Review

It’s a sad day here at Ottawa Golf Blog. This will be my last golf apparel review of the 2010 season. Looks like the season is over. All courses in the Ottawa area are closed even though there’s not a lot of snow on the ground. Reality is it’s to damn cold to golf and it doesn't look like it will get mild and the snow that's here is going to melt. Indoor golf season begins!

Enough mourning and on to my review of some golf polo shirts from Fairway & Greene. I’m always excited to review a brand I’ve never worn before and to be honest with you I’d never really heard of Fairway & Greene apparel before this review. Apparently I should be paying more attention in golf pro shop when I play. Fairway & Greene apparel is quite well know in many pro shops, and especially a high end pro shop where you will see Fairway & Greene all the time. I will now start to pay more attention.

The first thing you’ll notice about these men’s polos from Fairway & Greene is they are a very traditional cut and design. The second thing is the quality of the shirt is top of the line.

The two men’s polos I got to review were both 100% mercerized cotton which is a great fabric for late in the season golf. It’s also very durable and has a nice look and feel to the fabric as well. Both were striped but each with their own color palette (Check out Fairway & Greene latest catalog so many colors I can’t name then all). The first one is the Men's Signature Classic Stripe in French Blue, the second one is the the Men's Waterford Stripe Lisle in Wine. Both polos were XL which fit great. Being late in the season I ended up wearing an extra layer under the shirts and they still fit great. Lots of room to swing easy or hard.

These type of designs from Fairway & Greene aren’t normally the kind of golf shirts I wear on the course but the quality was amazing and the fabric of the polos were extremely comfortable. The colors as well for these shirts were great not your regular boring colors. These Fairway & Greene golf shirts really took me off guard I really didn’t think I’d like them usually opting for something different. These won’t be for everyone of course but if your a traditionalist you can’t go wrong with Fairway & Greene. Consider these if your looking for a high end polo for that golfer on your Christmas list.

For more information on Fairway & Greene and to see their newest catalog check out their website.

Founded in 1995, Fairway & Greene is widely acknowledged as the leader in the high-end green-grass apparel market. With an unparalleled emphasis on product quality, customer service and sales support, the company has rapidly grown and is currently sold in over 3,500 of the finest private clubs, resorts and clubs in the world. Bobby Cobb Rocks A SeeMore Putter - Video - Bobby's Bag of Tricks [Cougar Town]

My wife thinks I'm crazy. Watching the ever popular Cougar Town last night I notice golf pro Bobby Cobb stroking a SeeMore putter. It's towards the end of the show and of course he makes the putt. She now knows I'm a certifiable golf nut (recognize a golf putter brand on TV - check).

Seems you'll be seeing more of Bobby Cobb (actor Brian Van Holt) and his faithful SeeMore m1w (Thanks to Ted/Jason from SeeMore for confirming) on Cougar Town. He will be using it in the next 5 episodes of Cougar Town.

The SeeMore m1w is from actor's Brian Van Holt personal bag. From the show you can tell he is a very good golfer. He loves the SeeMore putter and asked to use it in the show....another reason to love SeeMore putters and the great year it had in 2010.

Best Hockey Stache Masquerading At Q-School

Andres Gonzales sure has a great stache. He's one of my new favorite golfers after reading various articles about him on Wei Under Par. He's been playing some great Scratch Golf clubs plus now he's got a PGA Tour card for next year. If golf doesn't work out he could sideline as an NHL defenseman. Go get em' next year Andres. We'll be watching next season when you hit your first shot off the tee as a full fledged member of the PGA Tour.

More news on Gonzales

Tim Finchem is said to be delighted that the US Tour is getting their very own, if rather dodgy, Miguel Angel Jimenez lookalike.

Its has also been reported than Finchem plans to have Gonzales star with Charley Hoffman in a 2011 PGA Tour Commercial which is said to be loosely based on “Oh Brother Where Art Thou”. Yeeee-hawwww!#

Why Golfers Shouldn't Dance

Is there any more reason for golfers not to dance on the course than this picture of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell. Graeme and Rory decided to do do the two step after McDowell defeated Tiger Woods in a playoff this past Sunday at the 2010 Chevron World Challenge. Nice try lads!

TaylorMade's Three New Forged Irons For 2011

There's always a little buzz when TaylorMade decides to launch a new product and the Internet has been  buzzing for months about the new TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons. Read below the official release and see the final pictures. Early 2011 you'll be able to get these.

A select group of TaylorMadeGolf Tour Staff professionals tested the new Tour Preferred forged irons at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in August. The exclusive video footage was filmed on the PGA Tour's driving range the week of the tournament.

 Press Release

The sophisticated design of each of the three new models incorporates specific features and technologies developed to promote improved superior performance. Created with major input from tour pros, each new iron is an exquisitely designed instrument that blends classic forged iron features with modern performance elements. The TPMB and TPMC are both created using a state-of-the-art shaping process and modern, 6-step forging procedure that results in pure feel. The TPCB employs a multi-material construction comprised of a forged face and cast body.

"Forged irons are typically devoid of performance technologies," said Bret Wahl, senior director of iron, wedge and putter development. "Their compact and solid construction, with thin sole, thin topline, high CG location and little to no offset, forces a very specific type of impact parameters to hit a good shot, with virtually no margin for error. The reward for that sacrifice is unparalleled feel and workability. We took a long, close look into the makeup of forged irons to determine if we could advance the performance with the use of technology, and we found that we could."

TPMB: Innovation in a Forged Muscleback
The Tour Preferred MB is a finely wrought muscleback blade expressly designed for the purist. With clear lines, a compact player's shape and minimal offset, the TPMB delivers the pure feel, feedback and workability coveted by blade fans.

"This is the iron that many of our Tour Staff pros been waiting for," said Keith Sbarbaro, TaylorMade's vice president of tour operations. "The lines are clear and clean from every angle, and the pure feel of the ball on the forged face at impact is as good as it gets."

The exclusive, 6-step forging process employed produces a more precisely shaped and finished head that looks and performs like a work of art. A thin topline, thin sole, straight leading edge, minimal offset and tapered hosel work in conjunction to promote the kind of pure face-to-ball connection sought after by skilled players.
In addition, the TPMB incorporates TaylorMade's innovative new precision-weighting port in the back of the clubhead to solve an age-old problem. In the past, clubmakers have installed cartridges of varying weight in the hosel to assure that each iron in the set is of uniform swingweight. Doing so, however, affects the location of the CG in terms of its position between the toe and heel. The TPMB's precision-weighting port guarantees precise swingweights while ensuring optimal and consistent CG location in every clubhead.

"The precision-weighting port proves that it is, in fact, possible to innovate and improve the performance of a true, forged blade," said Brian Bazzel, manager of iron and wedge creation.

The TPMB also incorporates an advanced, USGA-conforming groove design to promote more spin and control from the rough, a crucial advancement in making it the ultimate player's performance iron. The standard shaft and grip properties were chosen with input from TaylorMade Tour Staff professionals, and include True Temper Dynamic Gold shaft —the most widely played on tour—and Tour Velvet grips, a combination deemed optimal for promoting consistent and responsive performance.

TPMC: The Ideal Forged Players Cavityback
TPMC irons are designed with a clean, classic and maneuverable player's shape that offers the optimum blend of feel, workability, and forgiveness. By incorporating a compact, shallow cavity, the irons deliver the feel and workability of a forging plus a degree of added stability.

"We worked obsessively with our Tour Staff to shape the TPMC irons into something that looks perfect to the better player's eye, while at the same time incorporating feel, workability and stability," said Bazzel.
The end result is a sexy, workable player's shape with a thin topline, straighter leading edge and less-cambered sole. Like the TPMB, the creation of the TPMC starts with an exclusive 6-step forging process, which produces a more precisely shaped and finished head that looks and performs beautifully. The sole is moderate to narrow in thickness and less cambered, preventing deep digging. The leading edge features minimal heel-to-toe radius with the ideal amount of camber to cut cleanly and precisely into the turf with little to no resistance.
Additionally, the advanced groove design promotes more spin and control from the rough.

TaylorMade's precision-weighting port is incorporated into the TPMC, guaranteeing precise swingweights while ensuring optimal and consistent CG location in every clubhead to promote optimized ball flight in the long-, middle- and short-irons.

Equipped with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts and Tour Velvet grips.

TPCB
The Tour Preferred CB is a multi-material forged cavityback that's beautiful, powerful and playable. Designed with a two-piece head, the TPCB's advanced construction melds a forged face with a cast body that incorporates an undercut cavity to deliver the pure feel of a forged iron and the forgiveness of a deep cavityback.
"Uniting a forged face with a cast cavity allows us to deliver the best of both worlds: the soft feel of a forging with the stability and forgiveness of a deep undercut cavity," said Wahl.

The TPCB boasts the highest MOI of the three new irons. That, combined with its Inverted Cone Technology (the only iron of the three with ICT), which promotes faster ball speed on off-center hits, helps make the TPCB extremely forgiving for consistent distance from shot to shot.

The TPCB also features a precision-weighting port that guarantees consistent swingweight throughout the set while ensuring optimal CG location in every clubhead to promote optimal ball flight every iron.
Additionally, the TPCB features the same new, advanced groove design to promote more spin and control from the rough.
The TPCB irons is the only model of the three being offered in both steel and graphite shafts. The steel is a new, 110-gram, mid-flight True Temper Dynamic Golf XP, which is lighter and promotes higher flight compared to the standard Dynamic Gold steel shaft. The graphite shaft options, developed by Fujikura, are offered in 90-gram stiff flex and 80-gram regular flex. Tour Velvet grips are also standard.

Set Makeup, Pricing and Availability
All three of the new TP forged irons are offered in three shaft flexes – X, S, R. The TPMB and TPMC are available in the 2-iron through pitching wedge in steel shafts only. The TPCB, offered in both steel and graphite shafts, will be available in 3-iron through attack wedge. The standard TP set includes eight irons—custom sets will allow combination of any eight irons offered in each models—at a street price of $1049 CAD. The street price for the TPCB irons with graphite shaft is $1249 CAD. The TPMB, TPMC and TPCB irons become available at retail starting in March 2011.

Sligo Wear Now available At Golf Town! Canadian Golfers Rejoice

I always like keeping track of my favorite golf brands. Very cool to see Sligo Wear post on their Twitter feed the following news for Canadians yesterday:

Always a fan of their designs and loved doing a review of their Spring Line.

Well over at The Hackers Paradise they made the announcement late last night:

Sligo Wear Inc is excited to announce that as of Dec 1, 2010 their customers will be able to purchase Sligo products in Golf Town across Canada. We are excited to be a part of the premium golf store chain in Canada". Sligo will now be more broadly available to those who are fans of their vibrant colors and trend setting designs.

Great news for Canadian golfers who don't want to go the online route to purchase Sligo Wear and now can head into one of the 52 Golf Town stores and try on their favorite Sligo apparel. Great for fans and soon to be fans.
