Day 4- U.S.A. Wins President's Cup - Weir Makes Canada Proud

I figured if the International Team won 6 points that would be pretty good going into the final day of the President's Cup. They did even better that (7 of 12 points) although they still lost to the strong U.S. team they can hold there heads high, especially Mike Weir who won the last two holes against Tiger to beat him 1 up. Royal Montreal was definitely rockin' and I'm sure the bars are packed with people celebrating not only the U.S. victory(19 1/2 to 14 1/2) but Weir's as well. You did Canadian golf proud, thanks Mike.

BikerPlanet.com Can Help You With That Special Connection

My uncle was telling me recently that he was dating a girl he had meet on a biker dating site. My first reaction was “no way”. I know there’s a lot of dating sites out there but a biker dating one. He went on to tell me that its great for looking for people that have similar interest in biking and the culture around it and are also looking for a relationship. He says at BikerPlanet.com you can look for people in your area by searching the site using your postal code and a few things that you might be looking for in a relationship and a way you go. Did I mention it’s free to sign up too? I know he goes every summer on an extensive bike tour through the States, now he has someone to tag along. Good for him thanks Biker Planet.

Ping Eye 2 Plus-No-Plus Irons - Rare And Still Sought After

I'm in the market for some new iron and of course I was looking through eBay yesterday and noticed some Ping Irons 3Balls was selling. These were Ping Eye 2 Plus-No-Plus irons thought.
I knew nothing of these irons, did a bit of research, here's the scoop:
Eye2+ No+ (Plus No Plus). New head design featuring a "scalloped" sole. The scalloped refered to the design process where metal was removed from the center of the sole and redistributed in the inside of the cavity near the toe. Additional design features included a more rediused sole, a modified bounce and grind, a slightly thinner topline, a slight increase in clubhead size, a little higher and more rounded toe, and slightly stronger lofts. The grooves were the same as the "Square Groove" model. Made from the fall of 1989 to the spring of 1990.

These irons are 17 years old in 3Balls good condition and were sold today for $152.87 CDN. Amazing stuff for an old set of irons.

Mike Weir To Face Tiger On Sunday

Who cares if the International Team goes down to defeat to the USA of tomorrow at the President's Cup. Mike Weir gets to play the World #1 of Golf Mr. Tiger Woods. Great for Canadian golf, I know I'll be glued to the t.v. I'm sure most won't give Weir any hope of winning but along with VJ, Mike has been the best player for the International Team. Seems like a pretty good pick now for those that thought Player was only picking Mike because he was "Canadian". Play well tomorrow Mike we all know you will and maybe just maybe you'll beat Tiger.

Fall Golf Means Good Cheap Deals On Golf

Fall Golf is great the weather is a bit cooler but I love the changing color of the trees especially if they're the backdrop for my shot into a green. The days become a bit shorter but it's no reason to hang up the clubs. Also around this time I received emails from golf courses with deals and coupons to play there course. Case in point today received a email from Manderley On The Green for a October green fee of $15, all you had to do was fill out a short survey. OttawaGolf.com has a great list of Fall Golf Deals too, they're always good at updating. Check them out maybe play a course you haven't played this year, conditions are still good.

As The President's Cup Gets All The Attention- Hey! Wait There's Another Tour Event On

The Viking Classic down in Madison, Mississippi has almost finished 2 rounds except for a few guys that will finish up early tomorrow. David Branshaw leads at -10 after rounds of 66 and 68. David is a guy at 190th on the money list fighting for his tour card. Will he be there come Sunday, I highly doubt it. My picks for the week are doing ok. Brett Wetterich is the only one of the 7 who won't be playing come the weekend. Boo Weekley, Charley Hoffman and John Senden are all tied for 5th after finishing two rounds at -7, 3 off the pace. Jesper Parnevik and Heath Slocum are also doing well at -3. Carl Pettersson looks like he'll make the cut at even par.
The weekend should be interesting as these guys play for glory of there own.

Day 3- President's Cup - Morning Foursomes

The morning foursomes have been set and they are as follows:

No. Time USA Intl
13
7:15 a.m. Stricker/Mahan Immelman/Sabbatini
14
7:27 a.m. Mickelson/Austin Goosen/Appleby
15
7:39 a.m. Woods/Furyk Scott/Els
16 7:51 a.m. Glover/Verplank Singh/Weir
17 8:03 a.m. Johnson/Toms O'Hern/Ogilvy

Cink and CH III will be sitting out for the USA and Choi and Cabrera for the International Team.
It will be interesting to see how Mickelson and Austin will do against the Appleby and Goosen team as Phil and Woody were pretty animated when they played together on Thursday. Appleby and Goosen are pretty even keel. All four have been playing light out. Should go down to the final hole. All of Canada of course will have there eyes on the Weir/VJ pairing as these guys are on fire and should be unstoppable.

Different Story On Day Two Of President's Cup

Things kinda evened out after Day Two of the President's Cup with VJ's and Stuart Appleby trouncing of Tiger and Furyk how could that not spark the rest of the International team, they went on to take 3 1/2 out of the remaining 5 points available. Mike Weir was again great with some great iron play and some great putts beating CH III and Zach Johnson 3 and 1. Woody Austin was again brilliant after trying to get his ball out of a pond on #14 where he got completely immersed in the pond, he ran off a string of putts to pull out a half point in the match with Sabbitin and Immelman.
The U.S.A. still leads 7 to 5 but it definitely makes for a great weekend. We'll see what unfolds.

Think About Switching Your Insurance To CIS

I recently had to make a claim through my home insurance company and man it seemed like such a hassle. I pay my premiums monthly and now I make my first ever claim and it seems like I’m the one that has to jump through hoops just to get some satisfaction. I really wish my home insurance company was more like CIS Co-operative Insurance company that will mix and match the various options you might need in building, contents, travel and caravan insurance and tailor it to your needs. When it comes to your coverage insure you home and its contents with bank that cares and that shares its profits with its customers. Try CIS Co-operative Insurance Company.

Looking For The Right Credit Card?

Like most people out there sometimes we get to the point where we live a bit out of our means especially sometimes if you have a few kids. When your living this way it can be hard to juggle various bills and sometimes your looking for a deal here and there. Well look no further than the Co-operative Bank, which offers some great deals on credit cards. Their Advantage credit card offers 0% on purchases and balance transfers for six months or their Affinity credit card that earns money towards an organization of your choice as you spend, the ethical credit card you might say. Whatever needs you have the Co-operative Bank has the credit card for you.

Day One -Thursday Foursomes At The President's Cup

Tomorrow's schedule for the President's Cup looks pretty sweet with VJ and Mike Weir teaming up against Phil Mickelson and Woody Austin. If Canadians golfers can't get fired up for this they're dead. Matches are as follows:

1:15pm: Steve Stricker/Hunter Mahan vs Adam Scott (Australia)/Geoff Ogilvy (Australia)
1:25pm: Phil Mickelson/Woody Austin vs Vijay Singh (Fiji)/Mike Weir (Canada) 1:35pm: Stewart Cink/Zach Johnson vs Rory Sabbatini (South Africa)/Trevor Immelman (South Africa)
1:45pm: David Toms/Jim Furyk vs Ernie Els (South Africa)/Angel Cabrera (Argentina) 1:55pm: Lucas Glover/Scott Verplank vs Stuart Appleby (Australia)/Retief Goosen (South Africa)
2:05pm: Tiger Woods/Charles Howell III vs K.J.Choi (South Korea)/Nick O'Hern (Australia))

For those not familiar with what foursomes is here's a great definition:Foursomes is a competition format in which teams are comprised of two players each, and the players alternate hitting the same ball (which is why Foursomes is also very commonly called "alternate shot".

The first player tees off, the second player hits the second shot, the first player hits the third shot, and so on until the ball is holed. Players alternate hitting tee shots so that the same player doesn't hit every drive.

New Titleist Offerings- SH85 Hybrid Cart/Stand Bag And More....

Got an email from Titleist regarding some new accessories, as always looking quite nice. The new SH85 Hybrid Cart/Stand bag is my favorite I've been looking for someone to make a cart/stand bag as I sometimes like to carry and sometimes like to cart. This bag looks amazing and is only listed in black which is fine by me.
From Titleist:
The stand mechanism retracts quickly into a thermal-formed cavity that does not interfere with the bags attachment to a golf cart. A cart/ stand lever dictates the method of use for the bag, “Cart Mode” legs retract into cavity, “Carry Mode” legs are engaged for stand bag use. A hidden sheath pocket stows a double strap sling for use when carrying. Made with durable fabrics and materials this unique bag will appeal to riders and walkers alike.
This bag is on my wishlist and will retail for $185 U.S.

There's also the New Sports Mesh Flexible Fit Tour Hat. They also look nice but will hopefully come in more colors than listed on Titleist's website.

Heroes Season Two Tonight!

For those fans of Heroes, second season starts tonight. I know I'll be tuned in. Here's some interesting points to know:

  • The coming year will actually involve three "seasons." The first story-line - called "Generations" - will play out over the first 11 episodes. A second story will start early next year and then, starting in late March, there will be "Heroes: Origins," a six-episode spinoff that will not involve any of the original characters.
  • That initial story arc starts four months after May's season finale in which the heroes saved New York, everybody's favorite hero Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) ended up in feudal Japan and it appeared three main characters died - the villainous Skylar (Zachary Quinto) and brothers Peter and Nathan Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia, Adrian Pasdar)
  • What actually happened immediately after the big bang over Manhattan won't be revealed until Episode 8.
  • Death is a passing thing on "Heroes." It looks like Skylar and the Brothers Petrelli are all back since Quinto, Ventimiglia and Pasdar remain with the show. Leonard Roberts, who played D.L. Hawkins, the ex-con who could walk through walls, is apparently gone even though he didn't look like a goner in the finale.

  • Some fan favorites may vanish from the show periodically. Ali Larter has said her character - Hulk-ish ex-stripper Niki Sanders - disappears on a mission for several episodes. Quinto is taking significant time off to play the young Spock in the latest incarnation of "Star Trek."

  • "I think we can expect to spend a little more time this year on fewer story lines per episode that allow us to highlight certain characters each week," Kring says. "By extension, some characters will be left out of the episodes each week."

  • Filling in the gaps: a batch of "Heroes" newcomers.

Kristen Bell ("Veronica Mars") will check in for a number of episodes as Elle, a morally ambiguous superhero with ties to the Petrellis. David Anders (Sark on "Alias") plays Hiro's Samurai hero, Takezo Kensei, and Japanese pop star Eriko Tamura is on board as love interest for Hiro.

Dominic Keating ("Star Trek: Enterprise") plays an Irish mobster, while a truly iconic figure from the "Trek" world - Nichelle Nichols, better known as Uhura - surfaces as the grandmother of a young superhero. Also on hand: Dania Ramirez ("The Sopranos" and a stint as Callisto in "X-Men: The Last Stand") as Maya, a super-powered Dominican woman on the run from the law.

  • There will also be some changes of scenery for our heroes. An example: Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) - the cheerleader - is now living in the California town of Costa Verde with her family including good ol' dad, Noah Bennet, a.k.a. HRG (Jack Coleman). She's still cheerleading and is on the verge of true love with a new boyfriend until . . . oh, that would spoil things.

  • And, finally, we'll learn a lot more about the Company and the old guard of superheroes, including Angela Petrelli (Christine Rose), mother of Nathan and Peter; Kaito Nakamura (George Takei), Hiro's dad; and the late Mr. Linderman (Malcolm McDowell).

Jon Mills Wins In Idaho

You knew it was going to happen soon for Jon Mills with the way he was playing lately and all year for that matter. He has made 18 cuts in 22 events and 13 top 25s. With his win Sunday he goes from #24 on the Nationwide money list to #5, securing his PGA Tour card for next year. The native of Oshawa, Ontario was obviously all smiles after his victory. From watching it on The Golf Channel I guess he had a peak at the leaderboard on #13 and noticed he had a 3 stroke lead, he bogey that hole and then bogeyed #15. There goes his lead but some players would just spiral out of the tournament, not Mills. A beautiful putt for eagle on #16 and a wicked approach on #18 and subsequent short putt for another birdie. He shoots a 64 for the day and a -21 to record his first victory of the year. Nice!

So Why Didn't I Pick Flesch This Week?

Steve Flesch is certainly on fire this week, after two rounds he's leading the Turning Point Resort Championship by one stroke with rounds of 66 and 65. so why the heck didn't I pick him this week, he was on the list he didn't make the cut though, I may be kicking myself on Sunday. This is the sixth time in Flesch's PGA TOUR career, and the second time this year, that he has been a leader or co-leader through 36 holes, will he be ale to close. Will another 40 year old player win this week. We'll see. Charley Hoffman also was on my list but didn't make it, he also had two good rounds and stands at -10, 3 shots shy of Flesch.

Another Post About Fall Golf- Keeping It Fun

Found a great article with some interesting suggestions on how to keep fall golf fun and exciting. If your getting a bit burned out and tired check out these suggestions:
By John Rahnis

1) If you’re a creature of habit and play the same one or two courses all the time try something different and challenge yourself to play a new course you’ve never tried before.

2) To change it up even more, if you normally play moderate level daily fee courses, book a tee time at a real upscale track you’ve never teed it up on before. Find out about their early bird specials and twilight rates that can get you on a great course at a low price.

3) Conversely, if you’re a “country club for a day” type golfer and typically pay a lot to play a round; try playing an inexpensive executive or “muni” style course to get some perspective and try something new and different.

4) When playing these new courses, you may want to choose to just enjoy the experience and not worry about keeping score. Savor the opportunity to enjoy exploring a new course and focus on executing some good shots.

5)Another way to keep it fun and try something new is to head out to your normal course late in the afternoon play nine holes with just three clubs. There are actually “three club tournaments” throughout the mid-Atlantic where dozens of golfers play a round with just three clubs.

Besides being a lot of fun, it’s a great way to take your mind off trying to emulate Tiger Woods and reaching unattainable levels of play.

Your forced to focus on making a good shot with the club you have in your hands instead of agonizing over club selection and making sure everything is textbook and perfect.

6)Keeping it fun isn’t always about the courses you play; it can be about the company you keep as well. Dig into your address book and find an old golfing friend you haven’t talked to in years and drop them a line. Set up a time to play together and rekindle the friendship. You’ll enjoy catching up and discussing old times during the round. You’ll also likely be pleasantly surprised by how well you score when you’re not totally focused on golfing.

So keep it fun this fall. Take a step back and realize that golf is a only game for most of us, not a job. If we can’t enjoy it, there’s no use dedicated the all the time, thought, money and energy we put into it.

Fantasy Picks For The Turning Point Resort Championship

So here's my picks for this week's PGA event, the Turning Point Resort Championship in Verona, New York. Even though the FedEx Cup is over and there's not too many high ranked players in this week's field but there are many tour players fighting for that top 125 position as I'm sure most don't want to return to Q-school or have to use any exemptions. So there's alot at stake for many players.

John Rollins- won at this course last year when it was the BC Open. Returning to a place where you've won, good karma.
Robert Allenby- has been playing better as of late even with some caddie issues. Should do well with a weaker field. Hasn't won since 2001.
Stewart Appleby- course fits his style. Weaker field=top 10 for the Apple.
Shigeki Maruyama- has only made 9 of 25 cuts but plays well here. We'll see.
Jesper Parnevik- good scrambler, good birdie conversion %. Just a hunch he'll do well this week if his putter gets hot.
Jason Gore- has a good mix of length and touch around the green. He might get things going this weekend.
Nathan Green- Top 5 in total birdies, 11th in scrambling -Watch for Green to do well.

McIlroy Makes Professional Debut

For those that don't know who Rory McIlroy is you will find out soon enough as he make his professional debut at the The Quinn Direct British Masters at the Belfry this week. Rory was tied for third after an opening 68 at this years British Open and won medalist honours as the low amateur(in fact the only amateur to make cut). He's the raining Irish Amateur and European Amateur champion too to boot. He's teamed up with manager Andrew "Chubby" Chandler which is no surprise considering Chubby looks after the likes of fellow Irishmen Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and Graeme McDowell as well as Ernie Els and David Howell. I bet he'll be a but nervous when he tees of with his playing partner, 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie.

Doug Carrick's New Course Design - A Scottish First

With the Ladies' Scottish Open starting this week, it was a pleasant surprise to know that the course the ladies will be playing on is designed by Canadian Doug Carrick, the first Scottish layout designed by a Canadian. The course called Carrick on Loch Lomond is near Glasgow and players such as Laura Davies, Catriona Matthew, Janice Moodie will do battle this week.
A quote from the Globe and Mail article:
"I have to pinch myself every time I'm here," Carrick says of his $16.5-million course, thought to be the most expensive ever constructed in Scotland. "Building in the cradle of golf is a dream come true."

Golf Courses To Play Around Montreal

With the Presidents Cup just 6 days away people are pretty excited about being able to watch the world's best North of the border. I know alot of guys on the OttawaGolf.com forum are going to make the short drive to check out the action. Looks like I won't be attending so I'll have to check out the action on t.v.
Golf Digest has a great article on some courses you might want to check out if your in Montreal seeing some of the great golf. One of the courses even has a special rates as of Sept. 17th which seems great. Club de Golf de l'Ile de Montréal has two courses, the Island course can be played for $30 CDN before 9am and the Irish course $40 CDN before 9am also. Fantastic deals for some Fall golf around Montreal.

Firsts for Tiger

Tiger shots a 66 today to win for the first time at East Lake and became the first winner of the FedEx Cup. It was really no surprise as he had no troubles all four rounds(64-63-64-66=256 total). He wins $1.26 million and $10 million from winning the FedEx Cup go into a retirement account. I think Tiger will be ok financially for awhile. ;)
My fantasy picks this week weren't horrible, just ok.
Adam Scott- bad fourth round nets him a T26
Ernie Els- 4 mediocre rounds- T26
Phil Mickelson- T20 looked like he had a week off.
Steve Stricker- tired I'm pulled out a T17
Justin Rose-4 consistent rounds for a T11
Rory Sabbitini - another top 10 for Rory -T9
Tiger Woods- a big W :)

Tips For Fall Golf

I'll be heading out this week for a few rounds of golf and lately the temperature here in the Ottawa area has become a bit cooler, which is always expected once the kids go back to school. Kevin Haime a local golf pro/businessman has some great tips for golf when the temperature dips a bit.
Check them out:

1) Off the tee: It's a really good idea to launch the ball higher in the fall. Golf courses will always be saturated with water this time of year so you can kiss any roll goodbye.
If you like to hit the ball lower to get a little roll you'll have to tee it up a little higher in the fall or even look for a different driver that launches the ball higher to optimize flight time.

2) From the fairway: Always check your ball for mud. Striking a ball with mud stuck to it might mean erratic flight.
As for your swing, I recommend that golfers are careful with their leg action on wet turf. If you overuse your legs, you're susceptible to fat shots and deeper divots which lead to bigger mis-hits off sloppy, soft turf.

3) In the rough: Fall is growing season for grass so the plant blade will be very healthy.
At this time of year, grass is thicker and juicier than during the summer months. Be very careful with your club selection out of the rough. Even short rough will be thick and just might grab your club and twist it or stop it.
I never try to hit too much club out of the rough this time of year. It's a big course management mistake to get overly greedy. In my opinion, keep your 3-wood, 3 and 4-irons in the bag no matter how good your lie seems to be.

4) Into the green: This time of year greens are saturated with water and greenskeepers are top-dressing greens with sand so you can forget about your ball releasing forward after it lands.
Most golfers tend to land the ball on the front of the green and expect it to bounce 20-30 feet before stopping. That's not going to happen in the fall, so go up by half a club and fly your iron shot right to the hole.
You won't get much roll off the tee or on the green. Feel free to be a little more aggressive with your club selection and make sure to hit your ball nice and high.
You can also be a little more aggressive with your putting because greens will tend to roll a little slower.

5) Lastly, you may want to change your ball for a little softer one because of the colder temperatures. There are a lot of great "lower compression" balls on the market that will fly farther for you if temperatures dip below 15 C.

Edgewood Golf Course Becomes Copperdale Golf Course

Edgewood Golf Course in the Dunrobin was finally sold, the new ownership took over on August 2. Paul Ebbs, the new owner told Flagstick.com of the following:

Lots of changes are in the works starting with the new name, the “Copperdale Golf Course” and the addition of 15 more golf carts to better service members and green fee players. Another 10 carts are slated to supplement the fleet in the future.

This fall the real transformation work will begin. “Work in the Fall will consist of changing three holes significantly (turning one long par 5 into a par 4 and a par 3 and then consolidating a par 4 and a par 3 into a really interesting par 5 that will be our finishing hole with a great risk/reward aspect to it). We will also change the general order of the holes, which will result in a fairer distribution between the nines. These are the more significant changes but we will also build a number of new tees to lengthen a few short par 4s and create a pond in front of the green of one of the shorter par 4s. The bulk of this work will be done this September and October.”

I guess they're going to make the course a more “links style” course by creating dunes and some pot bunkers. Additional work in planned for the clubhouse, pro shop and patio. Although I have never played this course it sounds like the changes they'll be making may make for a trip out there next year.

ScoreGolf.com Rates Ottawa Last For Top Golf Cities

So I got my issue of ScoreGolf the other day and I was very surprised that Ottawa ranked last in there little ranking of golf cities. Having golfed in the Ottawa area for the last 5 years, I'm not sure why we rated so low especially considering a few years Ottawa Region had the most golf courses per capita in North America outside of Myrtle Beach. At least the Eastern Ontario/Gatineau Region did in 2002 according to this Ottawa Business Journal article quoting Flagstick Magazine findings.
http://archive.ottawabusinessjournal...ess+Journal%0A

ScoreGolf used data from Stats Canada, Scoregolf.com course guide and a lot of phone calls to come up with there top 20.

The criteria was as follows:
1) Number of courses per capita
2) How many were accessible to daily fee players
3) Great courses(ie those ranked in Scoregolf.com top 100)
4) Bonus-the City had produced a player who had played on either the PGA, LPGA, Nationwide or Champion Tour in the last 20 years.
5) Cities w/ regional pop. Of 150,000 or more were only eligible

How did your city do? Good or bad? LMK

Play Better Golf

Don't we all want to play better golf, it's usually what drives most recreational golfers. Check out Mike Pedersen website, Mike's a guy I recently exchanged links with, he runs a blog with lots of great posts on stretches, exercises and instruction on how to play better golf.
I like his back stretch to loosen up before a round and his articles on golf strength training.
Check out his site, it's a wealth of info.

Westwood Finds Some Magic

It was interesting to see Lee Westwood reverting back to one of his old putters to shoot a wicked 61 during the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Thursday. I guess he was within one stroke of tying Fredrik Jacobson's course record of 60. What a great round, he had 10 birdies to go with an eagle and only one bogey. I love the quote from Westwood after rummaging through his garage full of putters.

From PGA.com
"I sifted through a few and picked one out that felt nice and sat nice," Westwood said. "My putting has been dreadful for most of the year, and it was starting to irritate me, but I made more putts today outside of 15 feet than I have in the past two weeks."

Westwood finished tied for sixth at last week's Omega European Masters, so he might be close to turning things around. A win would go along ways to helping Westwood secure a Ryder Cup spot for next year.

Unfortunately today wasn’t as kind to Westwood as he shot a 73 and is in second place.

Shopping Made Easy - ShopWiki

I recently found a site that makes buying gifts for you or someone else easy. ShopWiki is a great time saving tool for anytime of the year whether it’s an anniversary or just a special occasion. Most people have a sport they just love and some people have more then one. Where it gets difficult sometimes is when you have to get your Uncle something for his birthday and he’s a real baseball fanatic and you know nothing about baseball. Go to ShopWiki baseball and softball page and you’ll come up with info to help you in your search for that perfect gift. I love the way you can search by Major League Teams, which is a bonus if you know there favorite team.

Another feature that I like about ShopWiki is that it combines the input from the ShopWiki community plus web based search results, which is great when you don’t have a lot of time to shop online and want to get reputable results.

I also use ShopWiki to help out friends who are new golfers because ShopWiki has a great golf section that integrates info about the tools of the game like clubs, bags, balls and shoes for instance into an easy to understand way, that’s great for beginners starting the game. Plus then they can see where to purchase the items that they might be interested in, another advantage.

Oberholser, O'Hair Off To World Cup In November

It was nice to see two young Americans chosen for the World Cup Of Golf that will be held at Mission Hills Golf Club in China on Nov. 22-25. Since Oberholser was 29th in World rankings he got the call after 5 Americans before him didn't or couldn't go. These two should be a great one two punch.

I guess when Arron found out he immediately called Sean O'Hair and ask him to be his teammate. They've become friends over the last year, this will be the first World Cup for both of them.

From PGATour.com

"We really enjoy playing with one another," Oberholser said. "I root for the kid very hard when I'm not playing. He's got a lot of talent and his maturity level impresses me to an extent I can't explain. To be 25 with two children and be so calm, cool and collected ... I couldn't find my rear end with a microscope when I was 25. He was on my short list of guys to take with me to China."

Oberholser, meanwhile, had an MRI on his right hand Monday and found no breaks or tears. He said doctors assured him that with therapy, he'll be ready to play Oct. 18 at the Fry's Electronics Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Greens Improving At East Lake

Well it looks like the Tour Championship won’t be a complete disaster, as it seems the greens have improved enough to let players actually practice on them. You have to figure the guys who haven’t played the course before or for those who’ve only played it a couple of times will be smiling ear to ear.
The Tour announced today:
Due to moderately improved conditions to the greens at East Lake Golf Club, PGA TOUR professionals competing in this week's TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola will be allowed to play restricted practice rounds on Tues., Sept. 11, and Wed., Sept. 12.
Three greens will remain closed to practice rounds-- Nos. 2, 13 and 15. All other holes may be played in their entirety.

Thank God it would be nice to see a few guys actually put some pressure on Tiger. We’ll see.

Funny eBay Listing

Even though the auction is over and the club only sold for $14.50 US the description for this TM rescue hybrid club is crazy funny, made up or real who cares. It starts off a little like this....
I'm selling this club because I finally left my fatass girlfriend who hated the fact that I loved to play golf. I bought this for her when hybrids first came out which was approximately 5 years ago or when she was 115 pounds lighter.
Rest here.

8 Tournaments To Go

Well there's 8 tournaments to go in the Ottawa Golf Fantasy Golf League including this weeks Tour Championship from East Lake. This past week I took another tumble from 3rd to 4th with some pretty mediocre picks. Of course I had Tiger and Steve Stricker who were 1st and 3rd but my other picks were pretty bad considering the timing.
  • Rory Sabbitini had 4 good rounds for another top 10 finish.
  • Robert Allenby usually plays well at the BMW which he did except for a 75 on Thursday.
  • Jerry Kelly I thought would be a good pick as he usually play well in his home state and he was fighting for a Tour Championship spot., not to be unfortunately.
  • Geoff Ogilivy was tired or something with 2 terrible rounds Thursday and Friday. OK rounds for the weekend.(He'll probably win the Tour Championship this week)
  • Arron Oberholser WD after a few holes with the bad wrist that's been plaguing him for the year(Should of know better and picked a safer pick)

Coupons For All Occasions

Well I’m doing the schedule at work and it’s only done up to October, so I fill in the schedule for the remainder of the year(November and December). I can’t believe it where did the summer go, it’s . Kids are back to school and Christmas will be here before you know it. I know it’s hard to think of Christmas but for people who like deals a good site is CouponChief.com
They have a variety of coupons to use from a variety of retailers. I know I’ve used a few including a Dell coupon that saved my sister $350 off her PC package.
I also use it on occasion during the spring when I need a deal on golf balls. CouponChief always seems to have at least one coupon for Knet Golf which is great when you lose a few balls per round and don’t want to pay full price.

Mickelson's Win And The Fallout

If you were any sort of golf fan you were hopefully watching the great golf that was being played on Holiday Monday at the Deutsche Bank Championship. The second event in the new 4 event FedEx Cup was quite exciting, I'm not a huge fan of Tiger or Phil but it was great to see them play some great "match play" golf. Mickelson was great around the greens as usual and Tiger was holding his own although you could tell he didn't feel comfortable on the greens. But it wasn't just Phil and Tiger, Brett Wetterich was wicked tee to green he just couldn't buy a putt if his life depended on it. Arron Oberholser was just the opposite. Oberholser and Wetterich are now in the top 30 and poised for the Tour Championship.
Unfortunately after Phil won he made some comments:
"My frustration from this past year came from asking for a couple of things in the FedEx Cup (scheduling) that weren't done (by PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem) and not feeling all that bad now if I happen to miss," he told reporters.

Then he withdraws on Tuesday saying he's not trying to make a point with softer comments:

"This decision was not an easy one to make and in no way is meant as disrespectful to the Tour or 'sending a message' to anyone," said Mickelson, who spent the morning playing in a corporate outing at Medinah Country Club. "I've talked for weeks about needing to find a balance between my game, my business affairs and my family, and now is the time for me to take some time off."
I totally can see where Phil is coming from, the season is very long, family commitments sometimes take precedent over golf as they should but he should of kept his comments to himself and a later time take them up with the commissioner Tim Finchem. I don't have a problem with his withdrawal, his great win over Tiger and the rest of the field seems to have less of a luster now thought.

Weir Comes Out Strong

It's not surprising after Mike Weir T41 in last weeks Barclays Tournament that he shoots a nice scrappy 65 to begin this weeks Deutsche Bank Championship. Sitting at 88th in the FedEx Cup race he needs to move up into the top 70 to make next week's BMW Championship obviously a win would do that but I'm sure Weir is just wanting to play some consistent golf and stay healthy. Now he knows he's made the President's Cup so maybe golf will seem a little easier that he doesn't have to force it any more which I think Mike would tell you he was. We'll see still 3 rounds to go.

Personalised Plates Made Easy

I’ve always wondered what it would be like to have a personalised number plate and there’s a great company on the web based out of the UK that makes it easy to search for old car registrations, prefix type personalised number plates and current style number plates within seconds. Northumbria Numbers has a searchable database that’s simple to use. I did a quick search with “GLF” because of course I’d want golf related number plate. Within seconds it brought up a couple of cherished number listings plus numerous prefix and current style numbers. Mouse over the “view” button and you get to see what the plate would look like to get an idea. It also let’s me search for combinations of letters and numbers with the letters “GLF” which was great, highly recommended.
